I'm curious, when they eventually announce a DLC, will they even address why it took them so long and why we didn't get any news, or are they just gonna be dead silent and act like nothing happened? We'll see.

Silent, they will probably gaslight us to some degree as well. They literally mocked the people that were asking for Heists for so long, in the trailer they has Lester saying directly to our characters "I know you have been cOmPlAiNiNg" in a really sarcastic way.

That's not an argument. I talk about CP2077 not Witcher 3. You compare an old fantasy game with a brand new Cyberpunk game with a lot more excitement. You compare apples with oranges.

It's like if I said back when RDR2 wasn't out yet that Witcher 3 already outsold RDR1, which was factually right, but wouldn't be an honest comparison for future games.

I guess you just put that in your statement to have more arguments. But that was not an argument.

Fantasy is much more popular than Cyberpunk and that's a fact. I'll fight anyone who says BR2049 wasn't the best film of 2017 but it bombed at box office.

And regarding RDR1 and Witcher 3, RDR1 sold more than 15 million copies by 2017 and that's just on 2 platforms. Not ducking on Witcher 3 at all, infact I bought it twice (Physical and Steam), but most of it's copies sold were at dirt cheap price in Steam. It's absolutely insane that the GOTY edition costs like $4-5 in some countries when on sale.

Factually I don't see CP2077 selling 23 million copies in 3 months, like what RDR2 did mostly all the copies at full price. And in the long run games do not make much revenue just from selling copies unless you're Nintendo. Even CP defy my expectations as a game, I still don't see it selling like that in that early period.

1 hour ago, executor404 said:

Now you probably didn't get there what I meant. I don't mean that CP2077 will forever have more players. But that it will have more players at launch. When you look at most played games section on Xbox One there are cases when new game launches dethrone games like Fortnite or so.

GTAO is also constantly in the top 5 and I could see that happening with CP2077 in the future with multiplayer if they do it right.

One reason why GTAO is so succesfull is because there is quite nothing like it. But in 2022 with CPO that could change.

Staying in top 5-10 is very difficult unless it's a free to play game or has a brand value like GTA. Even then keep in mind GTAO was one of the first console service games of this decade and it's an established product now. The fact that Rockstar is separating it from GTAV implies heavily that they do know that it's a monumental task for replicating it's success, even if they're Rockstar, it's much more easy to keep the bandwagon rolling with even more updates.

For a new IP that task is signifigantly more difficult whether it's CDPR or Naughty Dog. Also you just said the multiplayer part is gonna come out in 2022. So it's still a pretty long wait. Within that timeframe GTAO would get a proper next gen upgrade with god knows how many more updates.

It was hard to get the point of this segment. But I think you mean that CP2077 doesn't have an advantage in basic gameplay mechanics for an online game? I strongly disagree.

The simple RPG nature of CP2077 allows it to fit an online environment similar to an MMORPG better which will make it easier to have engaging online content.

It's hard to explain but basically the base RDR and GTAO mechanics are very simple. Players complain about lack of depth.

But with the RPG engrained in CP2077 it is easier to create a deeper online ecperience with levelling, skill progression, different combat approaches and enemies, raids etc.

That's what I meant.

Games like The Division, Destiny or ESO already does things like that. The players who complain about the lack of depth are not the masses playing the game and paying for MTX.

GTAO is the ultimate deliveryman, henchman, psycho asshole simulator with a heavy dose of pimping cars and properties. It's not some competitive, skill based game, in fact it's the opposite of it. The fact that GTAO is this successful with still being a premium product is mind boggling and the casual nature is a big contributor in that feat.

Most MMOs work from scratch to balance mechanics for playing in parties, not solo. It's incredibly difficult to balance stealth and combat in online environment, especially for a studio like CDPR whose strength isn't gameplay and CP Online being their first time building an online component.

For example Titanfall is much more fun and mechanically sound than CoD but it got curbstomped by CoD. (Partially it was EA's fault too as we all know.)

And I hate raids.

1 hour ago, executor404 said:

Definitely.

But have you seen the excitement for CO2077. The online engagement is much bigger than RDR2 was before launch. I'm not talking about my personal annecdotes but actual metrics.

The comments, likes and views on everything Cyberpunk is much higher than anything RDR2 released before launch. There is also a huge core community and trust in CDPR which will help spread the word.

Don't forget about Keanu Reeves.

I'm not saying it will outsell CoD or Fifa day one. But RDR2 definitely in lifetime sales. Bot GTAV of course.

Online engagement, excitement means nothing. It's like saying a bunch of hobos telling at you the earth is flat whereas the whole other world just goes on and just manages their life. CoD Infinite Warfare was the most disliked CoD trailer is history or whatever but then again what was the best selling game of 2016? (Funnily IW has the best campaign among current gen CoDs imo)

Hollywood presence almost never guarantees high sells, almost never. Most games don't give a sh*t about if Keanu Reeves is in it or not.

RDR2 sold more than every CoD, FIFA, Witcher 3, Skyrim within 1.5 years and it's still going strong. It's not a slouch, though it looks like that beside GTAV. And I don't think lifetime sales matter that much because games get heavily discounted and doesn't bring that much revenue. Early sells matters the most if you don't consider future MTX as part of copy sales.

2 hours ago, executor404 said:

Eeehh yes? And? What was the point?

I'm not a communist demanding free stuff like some people online who have a very naive world view.

People are actually excited about CP2077 paid expansions and they already announced that.

I'm not even against monetization in RDO or GTAO.

I would welcome that for CP2077 Online because it will mean they will support in the future.

If you deliver product you should get money.

I agree with you. Most people bitch about MTX so you know, it's almost farcical at this point.

Yeah probably, though a sentence like ''We want to thank the fans for their patient the last couple of months without any new content or news about an update." And then maybe an explanation that they were forced to work from home etc. and therefore it was difficult to share any news. Probably not but it would be the right thing to do.

@Zapper

It's okay to have different opinions on sales expectations.

My opinion is CP2077 will exceed those expectations, definitely outselling Witcher 3 in no time.

Will it outsell RDR2 in lifetime sales? I think so, in the longterm, if they play their cards right with story DLC and multiplayer like I said.

If you think it will sell less, that's completely fine and your opinion. I'm not saying I will be right, I just have this opinion and I could be wrong.

But I think you underestimate the excitement level for CP2077 and I think you didn't get my point about the engagement and excitement metrics, but that's okay. It's the internet you can't understand everything a person is trying to say in chat. And I mean that, not trying to mock you. I probably don't understand everything you are trying to say.

To your point about how fantasy is more popular than cyberpunk is really similar to your RDR2 outsold witcher 3 argument. It is none.

Because fantasy is also more popular than the wild west but RDR2 still outsold Witcher 3.

It depends on the product and if consumers are excited about it.

If the metrics and analytics are anything to go by, CP2077 will be the fastest selling game of this year, maybe not outselling COD, but in lifetime sales definitely and also potential to outsell RDR2 in the future.

@executor404 Definitely mate! It's opinions after all.

And my pov is RDR is now an established franchise and it's a Rockstar game. It's more than enough for outselling 99% games on the market. The reason I'm skeptical with CP because it's a new IP.  If it was The Witcher 4 then I'd be on your side by a wider margin.

Cyberpunk is sitting in my Steam account for like an year and I can't wait to play it. I want Deus Ex on acid with some good writing and quest design and it looks like it's gonna fulfill my itch.

I also heard that the next DLC would be basically 2 together. The one at the beginning of the year, and the one that would play on summer. Now it only remains to look and compare, if they get an update in 2 months, it would give them just enough time for another update in Christmas. But are they really going to leave us for about 9 months with nothing? Just like that? It is the bad thing about R *, you have to look at everything with a magnifying glass. From their eyes, as a company, and from ours as consumers.

Anything anyone has "heard" regarding RDO is nothing more than regurgitated speculation and wishful thinking from this very thread, often by the low effort usual suspects on YouTube or random clout chasers on Reddit attempting to pass it off as more than what it is.

We know nothing about the next update.

The interviews and datamined files are the best sources.

From that we know of collector expansion, photography, communal spaces, dynamic events, legendary animals, lawman... and that's basically it.

Anything else they talked about like robberies and becoming an industrialists is further down the line.

But the things I mentioned first are realistic things we could expect this year.

Anything else are guesses, wishes, speculation, rumors or wild predictions.

Let's be clear, no one knows what is happening behind the scenes.

We don't know if they are merging 2 updates together, still working on photographer or even planned a summer DLC all along but had to delay it a few weeks.

I'm hopeful that we will hear something before August 3 though, that's when the next investor call is schedueled.

This x100000000000. I can't stress how important this is.

When the next update comes, we absolutely cannot forget how long it took between this new update, and the Moonshiners update. If anything, take this huge waiting period as a learning experience from what to expect from Rockstar.

Calm down, no matter how good the next update could be, it'll break things here and there like the last one. There are 3 sure things in this world: death, taxes, and this game giving you reasons to send the controller through the window.

Tragically, all but guaranteed to be the case unfortunately. R* are like this because they know they'll be forgiven the second a drip of info does come. :(

They won’t learn anything unless it costs them money. So long as people keep buying gold/shark cards, nothing’ll change.

This might be controversial but I don't want more ways to make money.

I want stuff to spend my wealth on, I want customisable homes, I want clothing, weapons, I want wagons I can customise, I want a Ranch that I can slowly build up and hire farm hands, I want NPC's I can employ to do my dirty work, I want the ability to install a phone line/send telegrams/messages to my businesses from Train Stations to tell them to f*cking work etc.

I should be able to send a letter from any Train Station telling Cripps and Maggie to do some f*cking work, I don't care if it costs fifty dollars to send the letter. My time or what I am doing in that part of the map is more important than fifty dollars. Yes, I can FT to my Shack or Camp but then I need to slog through the menus and then ride back to the FT point to travel back to where I was originally or ride back.

I don't want more useless properties that I visit for five seconds and then forget about until I get a pop up. I spent a fortune on the Moonshine Shack and I can't even f*cking use it, I can't even change my clothes. I don't want more useless NPC's that are just background noises. I haven't spoken to Maggie in months, the only reason I know she still exists is when she fails to load making my entire Moonshine business moot. I don't want more NPC's who twaddle on, repeating the same f*cking lines each time I go to sell my stock. I want that removed.

It's been over a year and I am still sleeping on rags in the middle of the woods like a tramp with a literal Hobo. I just want QoL improvements.

I agree with you,
I also want some farmland, a little cottage and a business.

One idea I had, is to start a stagecoach company and do some passenger delivery missions with various outcome; i.e. ambushes, broken wheels etc.

Of course your stagecoach should be "visible" to all other players at the map if you do a long run...Maybe some cooperation with your posse to "protect" the stagecoach.

The ideas are endless, but i still think R* has slowly "abandoned the game in this state" in favor for a new re-release on nextgen consoles in about 5-6 months...

I'd much rather have story-mode DLC. I would pay full price for a good add-on story.

RDO can die for all I care.

Likewise really, although I do want the ability to whip up a small camp and fire anywhere like in the last RDR story where we can craft our toot too. I don't mind living like a hobo to be fair, lol.

Feel the same about GTA:O too really. I don't need new money making stuff, I'd be happy with a sprinkling of new cars and a sh*t load of garage spaces, and hangar too. That'd keep me entertained for all I'm after now.

Yeah. As much as I'd like new content in either game really like what @RyuNovaabove mentioned, the only way R* can encourage me to become a recurring spender is by releasing good quality DLC.

Course, won't happen, but there's certainly room for R*/T2 to rape the online games while expanding their story modes too. A good lil' story in Mexico, the Blackwater stuff with the gang, new characters entirely to immerse with, and a bigger, badder Undead Nightmare could all do so well in this world in a TBOGT/TLAD/UN sort of way.

I believe the last thing they ever posted was in January during that “celebratory” news wire about breaking records where they said there are many updates coming to RDO in 2020 and they linked an interview they did (the interview was about photography, lawman, communal spaces and updates to the collector).

I don't think so. I think all of the DLC announcements have had their own newswire. The Moonshiners newswire dropped Tuesday December 3rd and the update released Friday December 13th (7 months ago today)

The reward system, should vary. The inclusion of special items, would be interesting. Items that can't be purchased, but are rewarded when missions are completed. The npc, uses the 'casino wheel' function: random rewards.

Its simple, whatever you want into the game imagine R* seeing it and asking "How can we directly monetise this/how can we lock this behind a paywall/how does this sell Gold Bars/How can other players disrupt this activity?" if you cannot come up with a suitable answer then it will likely never happen.

The reward system, should vary. The inclusion of special items, would be interesting. Items that can't be purchased, but are rewarded when missions are completed. The npc, uses the 'casino wheel' function: random rewards.

Said it in the Native American topic. We could have a Native American VS Army storyline where we choose our side and the reward is access to a shop selling clothing, weapons, hairstyles etc from that faction. The other would be locked off or have increased prices.
