You guys seem to forget that R* has been promoting the Summer Update by talking about specialised roles in Free Roam. Competitive Modes, Story Missions, Free Roam Content and Roles are all part of the menu, there isn't a focus on Showdowns. I'm really excited for the Summer Update, probably trailer tomorrow or Friday, and probably coming next week. I want to progress on all roles simultaneously, really excited for the Trader role though, have been preparing by stocking up on pelts and meats etc... You guys need to calm down ;) Personally I'm playing WoW Classic until the Update drops, really addictive right now. Even all german realms are full ^^

I'm much more charmed with Ubisoft at the moment. Their single player games get decent DLC and additional content, even after almost a year from release. AC:Odyssey released about the same time as RDR2 did, but it got 2 major DLC releases and still has content added. They even have a story creator for fans to create their own questlines, which you can share with other players. I'm still playing the game regularly and have over 300 hours of gameplay in it already and still have stuff to finish up on. If you think RDR2 has a large map, Odyssey's is much bigger, much more activity and also a stunning world to see and better HDR.

I'm at the point of never spend a cent on Rockstar anymore, but support other developers instead. Rockstar won't miss my few cents, but would rather not see it go to a competitor.

While I find Ubi's world/level design lacking immensely, and the graphics outdated, you are 100% right.

Odyssey and Origins are perhaps the most supported post launch singleplayer games. Tons of minor dlc, including new quests, weapons, armor etc. and a bunch of major dlc including map additions and new stories.

The same for Watch Dogs 2, which added dozens of hours of post launch dlc. Watch Dogs 2 was also much more detailed than GTA V including hundreds of interiors.

I would love if Ubi took much more time polishing their games and creating better nature. They are already quite good in recreating humans and their towns/villages/cities are beautiful. Nature is simply not realistic in their games.

I kinda disagree a bit. When it comes to graphics, they're not really "outdated", its just that Rockstar is the leader right now in this category.

Also, Odyssey and Origins run pretty smooth on average PCs. The lighting model and the shaders are very nice. Those games are not outdated, there's just a bit behind R*.

There were also plenty of animals in Origins, i loved hunting there. Animal behavior is pretty Rockstar-y, it just lacks the sheer number of species that RDO has. Level design in Origins was also really good, the desert / rocky parts were top notch.

The most important difference is, though, that Rockstar aims to be the top dog when it comes to immersion. They are the most hardcore company when it comes to that.

Where every other developer runs out of time and money, saying " that's amazing anyway, it's definitely good enough", R* pushes forward, even though it costs them a lot more money for development, for hundreds of small things that half the people don't even notice.

I remember a quote by IGN.com, just when GTA V released,  and PS4 or XBox One were about to be released.

"Next generation gaming does not start with PS4 or Xbox One, it starts with GTA 5."

They were right.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents as a game developer. (Also, no, im not working at ubisoft 😛 )

I try to revive everyone but I cannot do it unless I kill the enemies in the immidiate area else we will all be dead and that's no good to anyone. So whilst it may seem I am standing around ignoring you, 99% of the time ensuring it's safe to revive you.

I have also noticed that when I am reviving another player my character doesn't do the revive animation but rest assured, I am holding down triangle and begging you not to "give up."

Wehn I first started the game I didn't know you could revive other players, so if you're playing with noobs they might not know.

Ah nice to see a fellow gamedeveloper on the forums!

Yeah you are right ofcourse. It is just that Odyssey and Origins never hit the graphical quality of Unity, which really felt like a next gen game. Also we have been spoiled.

I am still playing TheHunter from time to time, and 2 years ago it was the most beautiful openworld game outthere. Then RDR2 was released and literally blew it out of the water.

GTA V was a few years ago the most beautiful open world game. I still remember me thinking that. Nowadays it hurts my eyes how last gen it looks 😂😂🤷🏼‍♂️

Assassin's Creed games are by no means outdated visually, some locations (typically interiors) in Origins and Odyssey look genuinely fantastic but I find that both games struggle with vistas, they're pretty but the LoD's are very noticeable.

RDR2 on the other hand is basically the complete package, it does the small details, the interiors as well as the huge sweeping views.

If RDR2 had ended with the death of Arthur Morgan and the Marston content had been held back until May, everyone would be cooing over a return to the day’s of rockstar single player DLC.

Instead they released it all together as one massive game and people complain about a lack of support.

%90 of players in story missions lately are low ranks so they probably dont know that they can revive you. Also, its not hard to miss that revive icon on the map if your attention is directed to the big shootout thats taking place.

...R* hasn't released a real single player DLC since RDR.  R* hasn't released a new GTA since 2013.   R*s too busy milking GTA online for every penny they can.

But its the people complaining that are the problem?

But how's that supposed to work? Arthur revives like nothing after the ending? Are you forced to load a previous savegame in order to keep playing the game until May?

The epilogue is just that, the epilogue. Has no reason to be a standalone dlc. But anyway, some previous R* games had the same level of astonishing content as RDR2, and that didn't stop R* to release SP dlcs for them. False dilemma here.

Yes. But if they don't give us something tomorrow, I very much doubt it will be coming September 3rd. So only 2 dates left then, the 10th and 17th.

I'm afraid this update will be a "too little, too late" type of thing.

Like someone here already said, the update will revive or kill the hype for the game.

I hope it is way more than what we are expecting...

I'm counting on some basic content and a loooooong dripfeed list to follow. It's Rockstar, ya knows.

Undead Nightmare really wasn't DLC, it didn't add anything to to the game. It was a game on it's own. The last DLC they released for a SP game was L.A. Noire.

In terms of supporting games there's straight up no one better than Ubisoft in the AAA industry at the moment. Years of support, tons of free and premium content, good communication, the works. They turned Rainbow Six Siege from a diamond in the rough that most people overlooked into one of the biggest FPS games around right now because of the support they gave it.

To put that into numbers, Siege on Steam peaked at 18k concurrent players at launch and dipped as low as 11k concurrent players about 2-3 months later. Today, Siege peaks at 100k+ concurrent players every day and those are just the Steam numbers.

If you ever wonder why this "game as service" stuff has taken off so well, Rainbow Six Siege's success is exactly why.

They listen to what is safe to listen, they don't take risks at all, they still haven't done a Splinter Cell AFAIK despite lots of demand for it... nope they are too busy plagiarising from their own cookie cutter open world formula. So because they can't copy and paste Splinter Cell design and monetize the f*ck out of it we get no game even though they sure as hell love to make easter eggs, cameos and stupid sh*t with it.

On topic: This RDO update better be f*cking made of gold because we've waited far too long and not a single word as come out of Rockstar mouth since that newswire post.

The character detail, inclusing the gear, is a lot better in Odyssey, though. Hair and clothes move/bend naturally and look stunning in most lightings as well. Can't say that about the plastic haircuts our RDO characters get. HDR is a lot better in Odyssey as well. The loss of detail isn't much of a problem, since that's not important until you reach it. And when you do, it's darn good looking.

You can't say that they don't take risks because they haven't done a Splinter Cell when they've made games like For Honor and Steep lol. Steep's a game in what was a dead genre and For Honor is a competitive 3d fighting game, that's not something anyone else is making.

Sure it sucks that they haven't made a new Splinter Cell but the studio doesn't revolve around it.

Oh yeah like Steep would cost a fortune to make... that sh*t is something an indie studio can come up with just a few people, it wasn't that big a risk to begin with. I can give you For Honor though. but that would mean they've managed to take just ONE risk on their triple a ventures. No man...the truth is that the triple a industry is derivative, Rockstar does the same thing but atleast they go the extra mile on their singleplayers which is why a lot of people stick with them, Ubisoft is like the definition of generic.

You should compare it with the singleplayer , not with Red Dead Online.

That's the thing with Rockstar, like a few weeks ago they were saying we will get more info in the upcoming weeks which followed by complete silence from their end.

They only release said info when they are pretty confident of the release date, so by "more info", they meant revealing the release date and the info with a click of a button just like they did with GTAO Casino update.

It seems like Rockstar has a ton of ability cards and showdowns planned for the future, or some could be cut content.

One ability card is called "The Long Game" which from the name sounds like the opposite of The Short Game.

Dealing more damage to targets that are far from you, but less to closer targets

Sounds like a card for a Rolling Block sniper.
