Is the Norfolk less braindead, stroppy and less likely to buck at a frog than the Turkoman?

I'm on the hunt for a new mount.

I bought a Roadster as a second for races because it was supposed to be slightly faster than my white Arabian, she ditches me just as much as the Arabian.

The Turkoman is supposed to be more fearless around gunfire, but he ditches me around predators as badly as the rest.

They all tend to crash into obstacles equally while riding in general.

A lot of people like the Cob or the Shire as their hunting horses.

I normally look for a big rock to climb and get off the horse when near predators.

It purely depends on the horse. My flaxen bay Turk is actually my go to hunting horse, every other one in my stable has the habit of always tossing me when wolves are around. That includes both my bay paint, and my roan buckskin Roadster.

But if you aren't completely worried about being the best or the fastest out there try one of the Andalusians. I just bought one last week, the dark bay, and we've already dealt with legendary animals, cougars, bears, and panthers and he did not even buck me one time. Lol, I actually had to take videos of the cougars and the panther because I wouldn't have believed it myself if I didn't see it. The panther actually took me off guard and ran close enough he could nip at the horse's fetlocks and all Hysteria did was lunge out of the gate and keep the distance between us and the cat.

He also seems to maneuver better at a fast pace than the light footed Turk, or the tank that the Roadster is.

My only complaint with him so far has been that when I do take him to hunt he isn't so keen to warn me of the predator's presence until that red dot shows up. My Turk on the other hand will snort and holler while moving his head a certain way, and I know something is there before it has a chance to prepare, and I have an idea the direction from which it might be coming.

I've never been able to tell the difference with the horse temperaments. They're all untrustworthy pussies when SHTF.

I've said it before and I say it again: I won't believe breed has anything to do with a horse's temperament/courage until someone shows me code that says otherwise.

Well I can't blame them for thinking of numero uno! 😉

But honestly there is a difference, I don't know what or how to get them to behave different ways but each horse has it's own quirks.

My husband and I, we both own one of the Bretons, he has the Seal bay and I have the Steel Grey one. His runs away and is hard to return when he is summoned should a predator or gunfire scare him. But mine takes a few steps away from the fight and is right there when I call. The only difference between them is how we each treat them. I baby mine, feed him constantly, brush him all of the time, pat him and hardly run him hard for too long. My husband is quite the opposite.

I think it might have a small bit of influence on how the horses behaves, but I believe each and every individual horse is spawned with a different personality. Like my Bay Turk is one of my bravest horses, but the Golden Turk that I own is hardly as brave and throws me if she get's scared.

The breed is just the template, but not the say all in how that horse is going to actually behave.

I’m starting to think the entire temperament thing is random. Like, my online Turkoman behaves like you would expect of an average war horse, so I’m not going talk about her. Instead, I’ll talk about the story.

On my 2nd and 3rd playthrough, I have bought the chocolate roan Dutch Warmblood for Arthur, and considered it his main and signature mount. I remember it was quite brave for a work horse in the 2nd playthrough, and is more likely to run than buck me off when ambushed by wolves or a cougar, sometimes she won’t even react until they’re right near her. In the 3rd playthrough, while she was still brave for a work horse, she was more reactive and scared from distant predators like black bears, and has actually bucked me off once or twice when we were surrounded by wolves.

In fact, the brindle thoroughbred I had in my 3rd playthrough proved to be braver, she only got scared when gators were near, which is understandable, never bucking me off even when swimming alongside them. But, you know who bucked me off in the water? John’s tiger-striped mustang.

Non Funkable Token

Don't have proof, but still think horses feel way worse at everything in online. Slower, less braver.....

Understandable. That way you keep buying-discarding horses in online, which can lead to more money spent on gold bars.

Posted this in the Legendary Animals Thread but thought I'd post here to just in case some of you don't visit that thread!

From some data I've just came across looking for something else not even relating to the Naturalist Role, I've found the full release cycles for the LA, and I've checked the list with the releases of the past LAs these seems to be the release order cycle of the remaining Legendary Animals

  • 29th September - Legendary Moose [Free Roam]
  • 6th October - Legendary Bear [Sighting Mission]
  • 13th October - Legendary Moose [Sighting]
  • 20th October - Legendary Panthers [Free Roam]
  • 20th / 27th October - Legendary Panther [Sighting]

Should cover the next 5 weeks, it's possible we may get the Panthers all in one go on the 20th October due to the Halloween content being available from the 27th October, which is why I've put 20/27th for sighting mission for the 3rd Panther.

Interesting, i am asking myself how much will last the halloween pass...  i am so done with actual content, and i know it is very slim.

It makes sense for the Panthers to align up with Halloween, two of them have interesting names that give off spooky vibes, the Nightwalker Panther and the Ghost Panther.

I'm happy with that order. I hope the Panthers all come on the same day though, that way I can get one from free roam and the sighting mission done in the same day before waiting out the cool down.

I don't know if you know this information already, but the Pass itself will be 15 Gold Bars, you will not earn any gold back and there are only 20 Levels so the pass should last two weeks to a month at least but I'm leaning on it just being two weeks covering the final week in October / first week in November so that as the content is all Halloween based of course so wouldn't.

The images of the content can be found here on my site, everything is there except the coupons / vouchers etc - https://rdodlc.xyz/files/naturalist/halloween/

Yuck.

I hope, they have some "tricks" up their sleeves. The content, is a bit sh*tty.

IMO - the vampire dagger, would of been a better melee weapon. This machete, looks goofy.

A reskin of Algernon's Revolver; would be nice.

A hex/ mojo bag gun belt accessory, would of been cool (purchased from Madam Nazar) of course.

A 'were' wolf talisman? A victorian "goth" saddle? Vampire slayer tent theme?

Hell, even a scarecrow Halloween outfit for Cripps.

I would state that Halloween is bigger than Christmas when it comes to the player base! Why R* fumble the ball this hard when October could earn them more money and have more people playing their games!?

Online didn’t come free. It’s on the disc, meaning it was included in the purchase price of the original game. You paid for online, because you wouldn’t be able to play RDO without buying the game. The “I paid for the story and the online was thrown in for free” is apologist nonsense that basically translates to “take what you are given and do not criticise”.

No. When I paid for the game, online was not totally functional and really had nothing to do. It was beta. It was marketed and sold as RDR2, nothing about RDRO. Rockstar even said it's free on their blog when it was released so argue with them if you disagree.

"Today we’re excited to announce Red Dead Online, a new online connected experience set against the backdrop of Red Dead Redemption 2's enormous open world.

Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways. Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.

Red Dead Online is planned for launch in November 2018, initially as a public beta, with more news to come soon. As with most online experiences of this size and scale, there will inevitably be some turbulence at launch.  We look forward to working with our amazing and dedicated community to share ideas, help us fix teething problems and work with us to develop Red Dead Online into something really fun and innovative.

Access to Red Dead Online is free to anyone with a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60579/Red-Dead-Online

If you have read anything I've said about online lately, you would know I'm far from an apologist for what I think has gotten worse and worse and keeps heading that way.

Most of the stuff in the Halloween Pass seems kinda lame. I was hoping for more Halloweeny clothing like something from Bloodborne or Evie Frye's Bloofer Lady outfit

I highly doubt there will be another update with any additional content, the only other Halloween related content are just out Outlaw Pass items but they could just be leftovers and they were not removed before they released the update.

Rockstar loathe to add anything into the game via a surprise update, since the benefit coupons from Outlaw Pass 3 will not expire until November 30th would leave me to believe Rockstar do not plan on adding anything else to the game before that date, we could even find out if we may get a December update based upon the expiry date of some of the Halloween Outlaw Pass coupons but I think these also have a November 30th expiry date.

If Rockstar had planned on adding anything else, it would haven't been bundled with July's update so they have already planned for the content to last until there next update in December if one is planned for then.

Again, as I say, I could be wrong and I hope I am wrong and some of what I post is my own opinion based upon what data I have available to me and also knowing how Rockstar progress RDO updates previously.

You are likely right, thats is their schedule  i am sure, with covid they just passed over the summer update... we should not fool ourselves this was clearly meant to be the spring one, they just add a lazy and lackluster halloween pass.

I mean the Roles first came last Summer, with an additional role in December, maybe they were planning another Role to go with the Naturalist update but couldn't get it completed in time one would assume. So we may have either had an update earlier in the year with one Role in Spring, one Role for the Summer and one Role in Winter..

Lets hope with the December update they give us at least two more Roles as the game cannot continue to only have one Role per update as there needs to be some more variety if they are only going to release stuff via drip feed like once per week, at least with two roles we'd have two drip feeds concurrently, or mixed so that the Roles would last longer than two weeks to a month...

I mean all we're doing now is getting a couple of animals to entertain us each week, but most players have already finished Ranking up the Naturalist Role, I mean all I'm waiting for is to have a full completed field guide and I'm only missing the remaining 5 unreleased Legendary Animals and then I'm done with the update.

I just hope future updates will contain more than one Role, we've only got two roles within a year, and I feel it's simply not good enough, other than Daily Challenges what else is there to do once you've progressed the Role.. I mean they could even add more Ranks to the current roles we have with some more rewarded content to at least give us something to do if they're only going to do one role every 6 months.

A real in game economy would be a major improvement.

As it is we have a limited NPC economy, the rewards are solely money.

Something like a horse trainer/trader role would expand the potential greatly: a player who takes on a role could, for example in this instance receive a horse selected from a specific range of breeds bought by another player for training.

The 1st player prepares the horse through a series of training episodes of increasing difficulty to enable one perk chosen from a list to be applied permanently to that horse, one perk only per horse.

Payment could be in gold to the tune of several hundred, so that the proliferation of advanced horses doesn't get out of hand.

This would represent a horse who is an exceptional example a very rare thoroughbred, or perhaps a new selection of horses added for this purpose.

There are a ton of potential expansions that could give this game a real unique life, the community is full of ideas, all are willing to share, take advantage of it R*!

Yeah, 1 role its definitely not enough for a 6 month content. Nonetheless they did update last spring before frontiers pursuit, that was the time the lemat and evans came, and thus the reason i am sure they had naturalist scheduled to arrive at april. What really triggers me is their lack of vision, to actually develop cherished content.

“I was hecc’n bamboozled by marketing spiel”

that’s all I got from that

Selling horses (as strongly hinted in the RDO Intro missions almost 2 years ago...) and wagons to Seamus would be nice.

I would welcome actual fun and creative content but that is unlikley to ever make it into the game.

I just dont understand how the current content is enjoyable doing the same linear thing over and over a million times earning money for stuff that may or may not come, god knows when.

Everything is just bare minimum and the game is so repetetive im blown away.

Personaly i dont want more roles, i want loads of missions and actual co-op stuff to do.

I want a reason to be playing with or against players not just this pointless roaming around making your own fun sh*t.

Sure a cabin or property would be cool but for what ? How is that gonna be fun ? Chopping wood or milking a cow ? I dont get it

Legitimately, the Bank/Train/Stagecoach robberies are what is needed, especially with the Diamond Casino Heist system (multiple choice/routes). I'm all for other roles, horse selling, and such....but you NEED those things first. Start off in Armadillo, rob that bank as your entry level/tutorial, move up to Stage Coachs (armored, standard, wealthy-types), then trains (Passenger and Cargo based), then bigger Banks (silent approach, loud approaches, diff escape routes). Etc. Etc. The foundation is legitimately there in Story, they just have to utilize it.

It'd be like GTAO bringing in tons of stuff before Heists, which was absolutely needed at the time. In GTAO's case, there wasn't any "substantial" content until Heists, whereas RDO has had some substantial stuff added...just not exactly what it NEEDS. People (apparently) want player-interaction...and nothing says that like getting together and robbing sh*t. Running around tagging animals or shoveling the ground isn't going to do that.

(and the Samson Finch "bank robbery" was embarrassing, and needs a do-over)

By flaxen bay turkoman, you refer to the dark bay with a custom horsehair i suppose ? We really need roan or dark horses with platinum manes.

This is based solely on my own anecdotal observations, and it's not really a testable hypothesis, so feel free to disregard it or call me an idiot or whatever.

BUT

After using a lot of different horses, I am now personally convinced the horses that cost gold are better behaved. Like they have some sort of what I guess I'll call a "buyer's remorse protection" flag enabled that prevents them from getting stupider over time.

But I bet that R* is going to eff it up by only allow four players to play together than instead a posse of seven! That is why I like Prison Break in GTA:O!

The Finch mission had some cool setups bet the execution of things was horrible! We could have used Lakay(?) as base or any other place that is easy to hide the wagon!

I thought they overhauled the graphic engine and other parts to make the game better! But it feels just now as GTA:O but with horses! Why limit everything to four? Is it lack of imagination from R* what the other 3 persons are going to do? Heist in GTA:O could have been more fun in PS or DCH where players could have been getaway drivers!

So in RD:O So letting some players hijack a train and others rob the bank in Rhodes and who is left keeps guard and make a distraction elsewhere......
