That's what I'd like. Being an outlaw shouldn't be a role, it should be a natural part of the game. Just allow us to rob stores and people, add the passenger trains to online, and maybe add a new/existing character that we go to to plan big bank and train heists. 

 

The lawman could be a role though. Start by adding night watches like in RDR1 and stopping petty crimes in towns then advance to possibly stopping other players during their heists. The lawman role needs to be something other than "fetch this criminal" to keep from being just like the bounty hunter role.

Guns a-Blazin

The Lawman should be a role. If GTAO is getting it then RDO should get it as well. Here are 3 ideas from my DLC concept:

 

  • Multiple Sheriff/Lawman Missions (e.g. Stopping trains from being robbed, Escorting and transferring prisoners to Siskia Penitentiary)
  • The ability to protect all towns/settlements from Gang Attacks (A useful way to get more Money/XP and a easy way to level up the role
  • Taking your Dog out of camp and using them as "sniffer dogs" to track down and kill enemies in missions (Could also be used for the Collector role)

More Mission/Freemode Ideas:

 

  • Detective Missions
  • Breaking-up drug deals in the alleyways of Saint Denis
  • Breaking-up Saloon Fights
  • Hideout Raids
  • Rescue Stolen Horses
  • Stopping Assassinations (Saving the mayor of Saint Denis)
  • Protecting innocent civilians from hitmen and gangs

 

Can't think of anymore but they're the basic features for a Lawman role.

Seems inevitable that it will happen but I really hope it doesn’t. This transforming into animals copy paste from gta just doesn’t belong in this game. Come up with something new rather than constantly trying to paste gta into rdr2 online.

My short "Holy Crap I've Been Cooped Up Too Long" list of ideas:

 

Tie payouts to honor. Tweak the honor system so that it means something rather than a means to unlock other missions (???).

Make honor harder to raise. As it is now, you pet a squirrel and the game practically sh*ts itself to give you max honor. If you have low honor, no soup for you!

 

Make the naturalist role fun by allowing you to use animals against other players (NPC or otherwise) ie., you revive x number of wolves, you get your own pack of wolves to summon on command. Would make things interesting.

They could implement lockdown mechanics into Red Dead Online, but keep stores open during the lockdown for players that don't have a bounty. The difference would be:

 

- Bounty Hunter = Get an alert when a player anywhere has a bounty greater than $20.

- Law Enforcement Officer = Get an alert that a town has gone on lockdown. Players with any bounty amount within the town lines are visible to all Law Enforcement Officers to apprehend.

 

Law Enforcement gets paid for patrolling until the lockdown is lifted + any bounties they might have collected during the lockdown. If a player with a bounty leaves the town lines, they'll be outside of the current jurisdiction to collect their low bounty and their dot will disappear off the map as normal.

 

Corrupt memebers of law enforcement could also trigger the lockdown to get paid for the patrol... (With a loss of Honor for both committing the crimes to trigger the ockdown and for finishing a patrol for a lockdown they started.)

If we do get an upgrade to the Bounty Hunter Role I think a good end Role reward would be the ability to "Quick Draw". Target someone with your weapon holstered and activate Dead Eye, this allows you to mark targets and then press fire to whip out your handgun and fire at the marks.

This would drain Dead Eye very fast and not be affected by Ability Cards.

They can't. All the roles are already those of the 'fetch and deliver' type. It's like they can't use another mechanic to create distinctive differences in roles. Get X for Y npc.

 

BH - go fetch the bad guy and deliver at the jail.

Collector - go fetch the shinies and deliver them to Nazzar.

Naturalist - go fetch samples and deliver them to Harriet / fetch pelts and deliver them to Gus. (Massive update, I say. Massive!)

 

2 roles have an additional step (delivery), organised from a user 'owned' location (and we all know how stable that is).

 

Trader - fetch animals (parts) and deliver them to Cripps, fetch (or buy) materials and deliver NPC produced goods.

Moonshiner - fetch ingredients and deliver them to Marcel. Buy mash and deliver NPC produced goods.

 

Still, all roles are no more than 2 step activities; fetch and deliver. None go further than that. Nothing that brings the roles together at some point. Nothing but missed opportunities. 

 

Role rank 1 - you start with fetch and deliver activities. 

Role rank 20 - you still do the exact same fetch and delivery activities, but with a new attire and horse. 

That's where it ends too, btw. No follow ups, no progress in role activities, nothing. Just a rinse and repeat fetch and deliveries. It's actually not even an inch better than insta buying businesses in GTAO. 

 

Are there any role rank 20 activities? Nope. They could do something like escorting Nazzar when she needs to unload her overladen little red wagon to her buyers, in either a coop or PvP event. 

How about raids/heists on rival trading company missions with Cripps on the war path? Could also be coop or PvP orientated. Or choose sides with Gus and blow up Harriet's sample deliveries, which she's doing to some lab with her old west hippy friends? Those missions could be randomly initiated when visiting the NPC's, after reaching rank 20. Although probably still lame, it is at least something they can add to the roles with a certain progression in mind and some cosmetic or character progression rewards. 

 

The way it is now, they might as well put all the role NPC's in a central hub/pacified town, where players can interact with them and leave out the properties we need to buy to start the role missions and charge us 10-15 gold bars for first time interaction. That wouldn't make any difference in playing the roles and the rewards can stay exactly the same too. Neither would it make a difference in 'owned' property customisation, since everyone has the same stuff anyway or no one cares about what the other has or not. Can't remember the first or last time I actually checked out someone else's camp to see what he/she's got that I don't know about. There is no upgraded Wildernis Outfitters wagon for reaching rank 300 or something. 

 

A Lawmen role would be exactly the same as any other role. Fetch and deliver for 20 role ranks and goodies, all in the same open world that never progresses neither. In fact, that's how about any new role will be. Rockstar lacks either creativity, ambition or resources to really create different types of roles. 

 

My speculation for the next role? Fetch and deliver.

^^ Yeah, was thankful for a four-player session the other night when a cheating "modder" stuck me with a "Hostile" label for 15-20 minutes.

 

Felt good getting back into Defensive mode!

So if you do a mission for Harriet you get a permanent solo lobby after it?

But why does this keep happening at night and not during the day?

Or they are doing this during peak gaming hours??

Perhaps, yes. Maybe there aren't that many people playing at a later time of the day and lobbies aren't populated much? I'm in a lobby of 3 at the moment..... 

 

edit: whatever it is, I'm okay with it. It spawned me the Maza cougar. First LA in freeroam in a week.

BUT THE BENZ

those small lobbies are great. started right with a camp defense, then a hideout followed by a roadblock, followed by a rescue, doing an escort right now. inbetween I ran into that legendary gator whilst collecting a treasure in the marsh. god I hate that region...

 

anyways, game is quite immersive with just a handful of people around

No particular reason for this but I really want Invite Only lobbies. I wouldn't even care of they cost one Gold Bar and hour or you buy a Lobby pass for thirty Gold that lasts a month

I'm so confused.

I got in a session in the afternoon with 6 others just by loading in.

Later it got down to 2 others, then just 1 other player.

I did a shine buyer rescue (which was glitched out), a resupply, then a shine sale, fast traveled 3 times, no new players joined.

 

This morning it was a normal 23 player session before it crashed out on me.

Not gonna happen and that gold amount is way too low for Rockstar and I presume they're gonna remove solo lobies in next gen GTAO. They're limiting what you can do in solo lobies for some time and I am curious if they'll do it or not. Of course there'll be backlash, but it's Rockstar.

Everything would be so easier (and fun) if they just remove non hostile player blips.

It definitely seems as though lobby merging is being deliberately disabled through the evening and night.

 

My local time is similar to No Homing's, and my experience lines up with theirs, what about in the States? Is this happening at the same time for everyone or is this being staggered across time zones?

 

I was on from 9pm until 1am UK time, never had more than 5 other players in a lobby with me and when I quit for the night I'd been in a lobby alone for over an hour.

 

If this is deliberate, or even if it isn't, I hope R* make it permanent (they won't, I know). The game is so much more stable when lobbies aren't constantly merging.

R* should just introduce a premium subscription, private lobbies plus monthly perks and giveaways for around the same monthly cost as Netflix, take the backlash and take my money.
