Feels like they somehow ran out of time and cut content. Instead we got a trapper with 40+ re-skinned coats and nothing really useful from Harriet either.

 

The role should have been split 10 levels for either NPC along with unique traits for completing each path. Cut half the legendary animals and make the rest unique missions instead of this RNG nonsense.

Each animal should definitely have its own mission alongside them spawning in free roam.

 

It would have been much better than the situation R* have created where you've got multiple players lobby hopping in and out of the same areas and groups of players all roaming around the areas new LA's spawn in.

Best day in a while, made rank 20 naturalist, 80 in the outlaw pass, & am back over 1000 gold bars, AND I landed the Iguga cougar, which turned into a coat, as did the Payta bison.

There is some new free roam strangers for collectibles. One of them I encountered earlier was a drunk guy asking me to look after his wagon just outside of Rhodes, which is the same as story mode ones, there is a lockbox with a collectible in it, it was an Irish Alcohol Bottle.

 

I have yet to encounter any others yet though!

Btw, does anyone know if LA's can spawn if another random encounter spawned nearby and I'm not participating in that encounter, it's just sitting there.

I only play in private lobbies so there's always something popping up nearby, most of the time something I don't care about.

Irish Whiskey? Nice, that's 1 of the 3 rare ones, I don't think you can loot those from enemies. Good to know, thanks!

Yeah but are Rockstar normally putting these newswire already on their website this early? I don't know if Tez can answer that, but normally we get those pictures of the newswire on a Tuesday, just a few hours before it drops. So, if it is a normal event week article, we should get those early pictures already again?

I just spent some time in the character creator tweaking a few things, loaded out and spotted a shine mission nearby, checked the map to see if others were nearby, to let them have a go at it, I had other plans, and discovered

I'd got a solo session, much to my surprise.

Changed matchmaking to off, did in the still, checked player list...still just me.

 

Then the old coot showed up in camp, I gave him some meat, he left.

 

..said he'd been dead before...

 

Then I pondered how best to take advantage while I could, figured I'd better tour the convenient treasure map sites.

My camp was right beside the dream catcher tree, nothing there, rode north towards Emerald to check the crossroads tree, nothing, then got notification of a legendary animal nearby.

I could see it down in the dip between hills, the bison.

Took a pic, tracked him, and filled him full of sedative, sampled and revived, done!

 

Checked the list, still alone.

Thought to check the low bluff where you can find treasure hunters, and on the way there it went from night to day, checked the list and there's 23 players now.

Oooffff.

Oh well, I got 15 minutes or more out of it.

I don’t think we should just expect lawman for the end of the year. We thought we were gonna get a photographer role all year and it turned out to be a completely different and fleshed out role based on legendary animals with photography as a minor aspect of it. So maybe the lawman will be more interesting than first expected. I also think they’re waiting for next gen to drop the properties bombshell. I think the first update on next gen will be massive and that will be part of it, I think that in order to convince people to buy RDR2 on next gen.

Yeah given that GTAO on next gen will have exclusive features, I think it's safe to assume RDO will too.

My guess is that due to the GTAO update dropping on Tuesday, which will obviously have its own Newswire post, the RDO Newswire will come out early on Tuesday or maybe even late on Monday and that's why it's most likely sat waiting to be published.

I would love to see, a  free roam event featuring the Night Folks. Players, saving Saint Denis from a murderous horde. Using bow and blade.

I have a feeling a proper photography role may be added in the future, albeit not in a large capacity and maybe as part of another update. That's why they decided to make it a general unlock opposed to a role unlock.

 

I'm also a little confused whether the Naturalist is a spin-off of the trader or the collector or some sort of amalgamation of the two, although I get the vibe that the Naturalist may be an outlier to the other roles and basically serves to give us legendary animals with a little extra to hold the tide.

 

The fisherman's hat in the outlaw pass may be a hint, maybe there was some big trader-centric update planned that R* decided to spread out over the year and we get fishing in December? Could explain the compendium.

 

When the Lawman role inevitably drops I expect there to be some crossplay with Outlaw related player stuff, I can see R* taking notes from the Cops/Robbers popularity in GTA RP servers.

You know, in the GTA Online community there were concrete rumors about an update somehow related to cops that was supposed to come out this summer. But then we all know what happened, with the BLM movement and everything.

 

And since we are led to believe that Naturalists was supposed to come out in the Spring instead of the Summer before COVID ruined every plan, I wonder if this supposed 'Lawman' update for RDO ("extentions and augmentations to an existing role") was supposed to release in tandem with GTAO's lost DLC.

I’m assuming the Fishing Role or addition to the Naturalist Role for fishing will be added with another update so that they can say it’s another massive update and also to add more drip feed content with Legendary Fish currently in single player plus new ones. 
 

It will hopefully come with the December update if there is one, with another new Role.

 

I don’t think it will go down well if they add a Fisherman type role on its own later this year, since it would be too similar to the Naturalist Role and some people dislike the Naturalist Role so if I was Rockstar I wouldn’t add two roles that are similar in nature back to back, so what is more likely is we get a different type of new role in December, as well as a Fishing type role is my assumption.

 

I will be disappointed though if the next two roles are Photography and Fishing, as we really need an outlaw type of role that doesn’t have too much of go to A, deliver to B, since that’s all we’ve got so far!
 

However, they need to start giving us more than one role per update, so that the content will go further than a few weeks! If they only add one role each update, the game will get boring as time goes on, since there is no variety to choose what to do first and everyone ends up doing the same thing!

I swear I heard him say something along the lines of “or worse” when asking to be fed and when he walks away “maybe next time” as if we don’t feed him, he will take matters into his own hands and attack us!

It would be cool if R* added some Halloween freemode events that involved Zombies or the Witch/Hermit from SP. A part of her backstory could be that she got kicked out of town (most notably Strawberry) for casting spells/using magic and for revenge she released a curse that would bring the dead back to life and destroy the entire population. Our characters would have to go around the map and stop towns like Strawberry and Blackwater from getting overrun. I know i might have gone over the top with this but you know what i mean. I think it could work in a 2 week event.

The one thing keeping me away from properly enjoying this new expansion so far is my lack of gold bars; to try and farm them, I log in and do so dailies. But in most cases I don't come even close to doing at least half of them, mostly because it gets so frustrating trying to get something to spawn in a non-solo lobby. The poker table method involves other people and, apparently, also the voice chat not being disabled everywhere (as it should be)... Why exactly is R* so adamant in preventing solo lobbies in RDO? Even from the 'sell as many shark cards/gold bars as possibly' point of view, this approach is just counter-productive for them.

My guess is R* will add the editor but not anytime soon. They're probably going to add it in the winter update or on next gen.
