I even remember them saying in some interview that they wanted the players to keep using the camp which is why things like the moonshine shack and future updates wouldn’t include everything so we still had a reason to return to the camp...

I mean it’s such a backwards approach so rather than provide us with meaningful content that would make us feel attached to our camp and a reason to return they instead cut content from other places forcing us to return to the camp.

imagine if we had to complete a quest to get a dog for our camp rather than just buy one from some online store with gold never to look at again. No don’t be silly that’s thinking way too far out the small box.

I mean the camp is one of the most depressing things, we can outfit Cripps with outfits we will never be able to buy for ourselves, listen to music we can never get to play and if we hang around too long it disappears before our eyes, even the camp doesn’t want to hang around in red dead online.

Yep. GTAO has the same problem, the games progression is money and a little bit of exp and nothing more.

RDO roles gate some of the stuff behind exp, but you're still doing X over and over to make a number get bigger and while that is the name of the game in any online progression game in RDO and GTAO the X is literally the same sh*t except in different locations. Then you just buy stuff once you unlock it and that's it.

I raised the idea back when the update launched about Moonshiner having increased depth. Say, the moonshiner missions you do literally do nothing but give exp (as far as I remember anyway), so why not give them extra mechanics, like shutting down a roadblock in a mission means you don't get them on a delivery mission, or taking down a rival companies distillery means you can increase the price of your moonshine for your next delivery and things like that. Connect the various pieces of content inside one role together instead of everything behind tiny islands of content. You could do similar stuff with Trader, optional quests that influence deliveries and/or the prices of your stuff.

@Ring Dang Do. Still amazes me how GTA:O is still getting largely good event weeks that help draw players in with freebies, cash gifts, and good bonuses/discounts while here in RDRO it seems so lacking compared. (Granted, GTA:O has significantly more content that allow R* to vary the bonuses/discounts).

It really does feel like GTA:O is the favourite child and this is the runt of the litter, lol. Crazy to me as I'd have thought R*/T2 would want to run the better weeklies here to draw players over more and more, the game is new compared and just doesn't have that 'oooh, I gotta log in this week' feel to it.

Not only that but GTA:O has proven to have a life of its own so often during leaner spells. When RDR2/O was released and the focus of R*, many bitched about no March DLC that year, but as shown by the 2 casino themed updates, they drew a much larger crowd than any DLC before. And again now during this pandemic, we get great weeks like 2x missions and 2x VIP, 2x crates this week and so on, plus the players are really showing their love of the game with how we make it our own during quiet spells with the current phase of players taking part in the alien craze that seems to be growing.

I know R* said they're pleased with RDRO is compared to GTA:O at the same stage, but GTA:O didn't have a 100m+ million copies of the previous game they could advertise to like RDRO has with the cross-game promoting they can now. And I'm all but convinced that R*/T2 wouldn't be so pleased about RDRO if there was no GTA:O to prop this game up and help with the quarterly targets set.

Of course, none of us know the numbers and it's all speculation, but if here and other social media is even close to a representation of the playerbases, this game is a long way off from what so many seem to want, while though GTA:O gets a lot of sh*t, rightly so in areas, we have significantly more freedom and options over there along with good promotions. I know for me personally and damn near all my friends list except a few that do enjoy the game or are trying to love it, GTA:O has lobby choices and that alone is what keeps me playing there. They can add crap toys like Oppressors and what-not, none of it affects me/us, so we continue to play our game.

Just too many 'hits' built into GTA:O and too many 'missed opportunities' over here, IMHO. Like @Leftover Pizza above, this game has gotten to a point where it's just a joke and it's too much effort to enjoy anything really. As you said, this pandemic really highlights how poorly planned out this game is because of the slow start with content along with too many things broken. If GTA:O had of started like this, I don't feel the game would be the powerhouse draw it consistently shows to be.

Sorry to add to the negative side of things though guys and gals. I genuinely do want to see this game thrive and enjoy the ride with y'all, but it's just not got that 'magic spark' GTA:O has regularly shown to have in it's DNA from the start. :(

They said a lot of things, like looking into the camp issues and wildlife spawns we're you guys are still dealing with. They issued 2 patches a few months ago, without a working fix and left it there. Anyone trying to defend Rockstar in their lack of effort and/or grant them the Covid-19 joker card, must be a Rockstar fanboy. Every sensible person, who recognises this lack of appreciation towards the player base, should turn their backs to this game and walk away from it. Far away.

I just hope, if the next GTA/R* game has a full story mode, is a physical release. CEX will have a copy 2nd hand pretty quickly, lol. Pains me to agree as I do love their games when done right or offer the freedom of old, the story mode here is a gem but I bought for online too. It's definitely time to hop off the fanboy train I've ridden for about 20 years now.

Just imagine, just for fun, what the reactions would have been, if not Rockstar but, lets say, Capcom had developed RDR2 and released the Online counterpart in the exact same state as it is now. I am absolutely sure that a lot more players wouldn't even bother to moan about it for months on end, but delete it from their consoles/pc's after B&M for a day without a single doubt.

Detaching this game from GTAO/Rockstar Games, gives a total different view on things. Not only on this game, but also fanboyism, lol.

Agreed, the single player content is a gem. The online counterpart, alas, is a lemon left to rot far too long. The extra money spent on the UE version is a total waste and it shames me I bought it back then.

Lol my crew had six aliens chasing us on bikes! We ran because we didn't want to be abducted. 😁 And the players in radioactive suits shaming my guy for not wearing a mask, it was actually hilarious. I agree that GTA just gives more options to have fun in the world so you can sit back and not take the game so seriously every now and then. I don't know exactly what they can add, but there has to be a bit more attention being given to the world itself, and what the players are asking for. Because it isn't like we are shy with our ideas.

With any luck R* are using this spell during the lockdown and possible disruption to have a good read around and create plenty of the little bits that can flesh this map out even more. The potential is huge but it's been such a slow and underwhelming start that it gets harder and harder to imagine it getting there. But we'll know soon one way or another.

(By soon, I mean a R* soon, lol). :)

https://www.ign.com/articles/how-the-coronavirus-pandemic-has-affected-game-developers

Quote

Developers at Riot, for example, had to launch the beta of their upcoming FTP FPS Valorant completely remotely, and finding a way to do that smoothly, as if they had all been in the office with systems running normally, required some changes. “Interestingly, the complexities we’re running into are the things we’ve normally taken for granted,” she continued. “For example, designers are used to huddling around a workspace -- after a playtest -- to give feedback and think about how they want to tweak things. On any given day, I see artists at each other’s desks providing feedback. That’s had to change. There are challenges, but the Valorant team feels supported -- especially by Riot’s IT and security teams -- to get things resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Quote

“When you go to a situation where 85% of your company is working remotely, that’s a very different thing,” Remedy’s Communications Director Thomas Puha said. “Remote desktopping to your work PC at the office, for example, works amazingly well, but it isn't perfect. If your work PC is at home, you have nothing to remote desktop to at the office. You lose access to some network drives, and it's on that PC that you deploy builds to consoles, too. Since game sizes are huge these days, transferring 30-60 gigabytes to test a build over an internal network is no problem. Downloading that outside of the office, however, that is a problem.”

Quote

The struggle for some studio employees to effectively communicate while working remotely has compounded technical issues even further. “We can't play-test very well due to desktop streaming,” said one anonymous worker in the AAA development space. “Design discussions have taken a huge blow too. Everyone is in meetings all the time, so I can't just go and find the right people to communicate with.”

All the above confirms it's not just an issue with mo-cap that delays the release of future updates, but it's more than that. In fact, one other issue is quality assurance which was already discussed here, it doesn't stop once the update is approved, even after the update release, the developers would monitor the scene and focus on fixing any critical bugs, the current pandemic may slow down that process which could result in black loading screen bugs or worse.

Honestly, the situation was worse before the pandemic, the whole issue with animal spawns made it more complicated, mainly because the game relies on peer-to-peer network structure, it's too late to complain about that and moving to dedicated servers is a waste of time, as it requires time and effort that would delay the next update not by weeks, but by several months or years. It's safer for them to just stick to the current version and reduce the amount of issues we are experiencing.

We need a new patch that address most of the issues we are experiencing, and from what I'm seeing, we could be getting one really soon although I'm not sure if it would address most issues. If we do get one and it proves to be a solid patch, that could bring us closer to the next update.

Only morons who make this type of excuses

As I said other companies are releasing updates during this pandemic, you're talking like R* is the only company who affected by this !

before this pandemic R* had almost 3 months to work on the update, since mid December last year to the beginning of March

this is more than enough time to finish most of the update but guess what? they haven't done anything

even before the pandemic they were taking 4 months just to release one update which ridiculously a long time considering how empty and buggy the game is

R* is lazy and they are so terrible in communicating with their fans, just accept it .

You know QA testers who worked in the industry usually deny the claims that testers weren't doing their job to report bugs, when in reality they did so, but the developers decided to release the update even with the reported bug, usually managers are responsible for that.

What I'm trying to say is that you won't be different from those managers with your way of thinking, say you are the one working there, a bug suddenly appears because bugs are unpredictable, would you delay the update in favor of fixing the bug or claim your team spent 3 months working which is enough time and just ignore that bug?

You know what, maybe this is too much for you, so let's just call them lazy.

I think a lot of anger coming from fans could be reduced if Rockstar just came out and said "Hey, due to Covid-19, we have to delay our plans for rdo blah blah blah (insert pr speak about wanting to provide a great experience for fans here) also, here's a sneak peek at what's coming later this year"

You know, I would be happy with six-month waits if we actually got something significant like the first Frontiers Roles update with three Roles in one. Waiting six months and getting a weeks worth of content is poor.

"The Eternal Flame" - I'm guessing is longer fire duration + more fire damage perhaps? Could be a fun card tbh - a nightmare for PvP probably, but could be fun in PvE.

"A Person of Conviction" - I have no idea really, the image seems to imply fire is a theme, so perhaps you take less damage from fire or something? Nothing in the card name suggests that but a fire damage/duration card and a fire damage resistance card would make sense if these two are indeed new upcoming cards.

To continue, I'm sorry but it does not take a studio of R*'s size and wealth six months to make what equates to a weeks worth of content. Even if they have full motion capture for cutscenes.

I feel the same way, I have just chosen to have some ability cards, I think I have just unlocked three in total or something, I feel the same way about dead eye in terms of pvp at least. I only play free roam but I never use it when defending myself against other players, it feels lame an unatural, either I free aim or stop playing the game.

They both do kinda look fire related.

A person of conviction would have to be a dead-eye card though since it's red
