There's only 1 patch they can launch to make me play this game again; a patch that makes the online portion of this game fully playable offline, with all the stuff loading from local machine.

You mean like every update before?^^

I get the sentiment, but people said that about every update for RDO (with Moonshiner probably being the exception).

Back in 2018 when online launched, people said RDO needs big content additions in January 2019, otherwise the game will die.

Now we know what happened was that a not so big update launched in February.

A toast to your recovery! 🙂

So could this mean something worthwhile is in the near future, or are they out of ideas and the ability to actually give us something to play for now? Because I don't even know why the need to give us this kind of update anymore? They could just give us an indication of when the next meaningful update may arrive, or even what it will contain.

They have given all clothing a discount now so...

With a separate currency i thought R* was going to give us almost bi-monthly updates just to make sure we never had enough gold. So yes they screwed the poohs on this one.

Imo they never had the intention to milk this game like gtaO.
Gold currency in RDO is just here to allow new players a quick-start. Other than that there‘s absolutely no reason to spend real cash on in-game currency.

They know exactly that people would spend money on gold if they‘d deliver new content more often, however, they chose to make earning gold way easier as earning cash in GTAO.

I think RDO is more like their online-mode for the enthusiasts and GTAO is the cash cow that every other 12yo spends their parents cash on.

R* is a multimillion-$ company, don‘t be so naive to think that they wouldn‘t milk this game if they wanted to.

Gold is so slow to get ingame. I think R* could and they want to milk off that cash from RDO, but it seems not appealing to majority. GTAO is still way ahead of RDO.

If you get a daily streak going, you can get heaps of gold flowing in every day. Maintaining a streak only takes about 10 minutes of effort

This.

If anyone reads their monthly/annual targets, it's very clear that T2 are targetting recurring spending, lol. Crazy to think otherwise really.

But with RDRO here, they seem to have expected the GTA:O crowd to jump over and start buying but as the game launched with f*ck all content, and doesn't have the boom-boom-bang-bang like the toys in GTA, and along with the drastic reduction in player freedom and choice, and being very very broken with the exact same pattern of 'fix one thing, break much more' and the longer waits between DLC to bring said fixes, more and more are just walking away from this farce.

Maybe true for some, but the average casual just doesn't want to feel compelled to log in daily just to keep up appearances, lol. Most just wanna dip in and play a bit of this and that. This game is very unfriendly unless you commit to it on a regular basis.

That's what people said with GTA Online, "the game is dead" only for the Casino & Casino Heist updates to arrive which hit record-breaking numbers.

I'm sure people will be back here discussing the new update once we get some info about it.

People were saying GTAO and RDO were dead over Christmas, only for Rockstar to reveal (and Steam numbers backed this up) that they broke their concurrent player records, lol.

I'm sure people will return regardless, whether its to (rightly) complain about ongoing camp and animal spawn issues should they persist, or whether the new DLC is a letdown or step forward.

However, I can't help but feel that unless there are fundamental changes, interest in this game will steadily decline.

I really hope they rebalance pvp in the future. The ability cards, the tonics, and the movement speed are atrocious.

I heard a few weeks ago that Rockstar has made a big overhaul to its culture

I think this decision has a negative impact on the updates we're receiving on their online games

it seems that they got lazy now and don't want to work hard anymore .

my initial thoughts as well. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that this new "culture" breeds productivity and not laziness. Time will tell. The deciding factor of this being true all comes down to the coming updates.

Lol lazy?

These 'culture changes' mostly entail fexible work times and coachings. Some bad managers were fired. They increased pay for overtime and reduced the pressure to work overtime.

Nothing there to me say they are lazy. They are still working more hours than the average american and many are still working overtime. They have implemented these changes since 2018. It's not like everyone just works 20 hours now since this report came out lol

keeping your game with no actual updates or fixes for more than 4 months is lazy to me

other companies are taking advantage of this pandemic to release updates and attract new players

while Rockstar has done nothing to not crunch their lazy employees .

I think it's complacency more than lazy, IMO. They know we're stuck at home and the number of players is already probably good enough to please shareholders and the top brass, why release anything now when they can wait and draw folk back once IRL gets back to normal, lol. (But cynical).

As said by others above, R* know we'll just pop back whenever they release some stuff. Be it to complain, laugh, or get a day or two out of whatever they add, lol. At least that's where I'm at. Too rich to just mindlessly chip away at the crap I/we've done so often already when I can play other (fixed/working) games while waiting between the long gaps of nothing during these days of staying home and keeping safe. :)

Man I want to see you work at Rockstar for a month and call their employees lazy again.

It's a management decision to direct and redirect ressources towards or from different projects inlcuding RDO, not lazy employees.

It's a management decision to rely on P2P and set the schedules, to make money based of gold purchases, to focus ressources on other project.

Since 2016 there were many years in GTA Online  were nothing substantial dropped until June of the year. But they still had 3-4 updates per year, all the big ones dropping in the second half of the year. It's a business decision. They work on multiple updates simultaneously.

Anyone who thinks that the culture change at Rockstar has anything to do with the sheer concept of lazyness is a moron. The culture change is because the people who make the games wanted to stop being treated like absolute dog sh*t. The old ways aren't always the best ways.

The reason RDO and GTAO are behind on updates is the same reason every other update and game is being delayed right now - a world wide f*cking pandemic.

You need to make the distinction between employees and leadership/management.

It's no secret that RDO is broken in many ways and most of the issues could be mitigated with dedicated servers. That has nothing to do with lazyness though.

Actually it was confirmed as a pandemic on March 11th. Europe/US are also months behind China when it comes to the virus, most European countries and the US are country still very much in the middle of lockdown. I've heard some studios say they don't expect to be back in the office until later in the year. Games releases and game updates are being delayed, on record, because of the impact the pandemic has had on studios and their ability to work from home not being all that viable for many studios.

So yea, you're welcome for me opening your mind. :)

Games have been delayed forever already. The current pandemic is, in many cases, nothing more than an excuse to delay a release. Final Fantasy VII Remake was delayed for 5 weeks before the pandemic, but released perfectly fine on the delayed date, during the first few weeks of the pandemic. So, their delay was not even pandemic related. Heck, they even shipped physical copies early, to make sure players could buy the game or get it shipped to their homes in time, in case of pandemic related logistic issues.
Really, how many games actually released on the first announced date, before the pandemic? How long did we have to wait for the FP update last summer? How long did it take them to finally release another update? And how long ago was it again, when we started noticing all sorts of problems with RDO? The rate of launching updates and fixes has always been poor. Pandemic or not.
Last evening, Ubisoft streamed a 7 hour long live stream (awesome stream) of one of their artists drawing the art for a new Assassin's Creed game; Valhalla. Tomorrow, we get to view the worldwide teaser trailer for this game. Nobody at Ubisoft plays the pandemic card. Knowing Ubisoft, when they start releasing teasers, their game is nearly finished. They can do it, they live with the same pandemic as we all do.

Oh yeah, you seem to be forgetting about how well e-sports have developed, during the pandemic. A lot more players have been participating in e-sports, many e-sport games have updated, upgraded and expanded their services and online events during this crippling pandemic. They don't need excuses, like Rockstar and Naughty Dog.

Here's another thing to think about:

Why would Rockstar be eager to announce chances or reasons of delay on upcoming updates, due to the pandemic, when they never even release any info on content and release dates of such updates in the first place?
They take a cheap advantage of the situation, hoping to shut up the "when do we get an update?" crowd.

As I said, how one studio handles working from home is not how another studio handles it. No one was prepared for this, there's no set plan, not every studio will work in the same way and not every studio will manage the working from home period as well as others.

Monster Hunter World, Warframe, Death Stranding PC, Wasteland 3, Iron Man VR, Ghost of Tsushima, Blue Protocol, Baldurs Gate 3, Fallout 76, New World, Path of Exile 2 and Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege are all games off the top of my head that have been impacted by the pandemic, whether that's a full game release, beta testing or DLC development. The idea that game development isn't by impacted by the coronavirus is, to be frank, absurd. I remember the Warframe studio, who have adapted pretty well to the work from home stuff, specifically mentioning that Q&A has become very difficult because of the team working from home. Q&A being one of the final and most important parts for any content update for a game

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's reveal, like any AAA reveal these days, has been in the work for months, work started on it pre-coronavirus, Bosslogic (who created the promo art) flat out mentioned that he had spent months working on it in his tweet - the live stream was not live, it was months of work cut together into one video. The game is also expected to release this fall, which is when the pandemic's impact on the games industry is widely expected to have died down with teams hopefully being back in the studios long before then, but in general the impact of development on games and updates being released towards the end of the year so far is not really known and while signs point to it, for now, being okay, that could very well change if lockdown continues into the summer. However, development of games and updates being released during the pandemic is being impacted right now and this has been widely reported by studios and people within the industry. It is not a tinfoil hat theory.

Some of the development being greatly impacted by the lockdown is stuff like motion capture work, voice work and localisation, aka stuff that cannot be skipped over. On top of that, general communication is now more complex and like I mentioned, Q&A a lot more challenging.

If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic I would be ??? at why we haven't had the update yet. I fully expected it by the end of this month earlier this year, but with the pandemic going on and as long as studios continue to work from home I do not expect it anytime soon.

As for eSports, cause that is somehow being used in context with game development here, eSports has been impacted with some events (RLCS for one) being outright cancelled and others rejigged or delayed. We have seen a rise of impromptu eSports events sure, particularly with the racing and sport games, but again, that has nothing to do with game development. Scaling up server capacity is relatively simple these days, as is hosting some impromptu tournaments.
