Yeah, that's what has kept me going so far.

With the content we currently have available, I've done everything I want to do and bought everything I want to buy.

The only thing I have left is the year long daily streak, because I figure that as I've managed to avoid streak resets so far, I might as well.

As you said though, after a year, what next? 18 months? 2 years? That would become a chore to me. I think other than maxing out new roles and Outlaw Passes (already have enough collections waiting to complete Pass 3 on day one), I'll probably just set myself a broad target of having more cash and gold at the end of each update cycle than I did at the start.

Like many of us, I already have enough cash and gold that I could just not play between updates and still have enough to buy whatever I want for a year easily, maybe two or more, so personally I don't really see any point in setting myself any specific targets with regards to in game wealth.

The one and only target I had is to have fun playing the game, but the current state (and probably the future state) this game is in, prevents me to achieve that in any possible way in the short and the long run.

I’ve read comments here that RDO is not like GTAO. Well, it is. Besides the businesses content model, there is nothing to achieve but gaining more wealth and clothes to flaunt with (I’m looking at you, cow camo and pink fur).
Whatever content they drop, it all serves the same purpose; grinding wealth you’ll never use other than to flaunt with.
None of the roles we have have any depth in them. Just like the businesses in GTAO. No depth, no progression, just gathering funds. It doesn’t matter what package they pour it into, it all boils down to the same.

The thought that Rockstar has no clue on how to create a great PvE game, which I’ve focused on for a while, has become a non issue now. I think they know very well how to achieve that or can easily buy the resources to achieve such a thing if they wanted. But, after a long naive wait for it, I realize this is not what they are pursuing.
All remarks about them losing money and killing their games if they don’t fix things are out the window too. They got $8BN revenue to defy those.

What they do is give us a large sandbox to play in and give us shiny spades and buckets to build small sand castles, while giving others extra big boots to kick and destroy them with. And it doesn’t matter whether we’re wearing beer hats or western hats, but that’s all we get.
The spare occasions where they gave us the impression they’ve listened to the crowd, are negligible.
They do whatever they know is best to earn cash and keep milking players for their money, by incentivizing them exactly the right way.
We may not agree, but their revenue tells them otherwise.

I was thinking earlier, why do I bother playing this game?

I'd loaded in, on my second attempt, after a disconnection. Camp and Shack were both AWOL, whatever. I fast traveled to Tumbleweed, visited the general store and changed my buckle for the dailies. To my surprise the bounty board worked, so I started a $$$ bounty for another daily, mounted my horse and it was rooted to the spot. 1.5 gold up, $8 down, streak in tact, f*ck it, logged off.

I was like, this isn't fun. Why do I bother? Is the game good? No. Am I playing because it could be one day? Partly, yeah. But mostly it's the community around the game that keeps me logging in, keeping my account ticking over while we wait for an update.

If it wasn't for the regulars here, and the RDO community on Twitter, I'd have dumped the game.

Exactly how I've been feeling about this game recently, with lockdown on full effect I've got time  to play more of it it and just go "Really.........okay" when Cripps and Maggie decide to pack up everything. I'm such a huge fan of the red dead games and was excited to go to multiplayer and create my characters adventure, but now it's just effort to load in and wonder if anything is gonna work.

I haven't played in about a fortnight and I don't miss it.

I'll check out the next update, but if camps and animal spawns aren't fixed as a baseline before anything else, then I'm out.

I totally get what you mean and the community is actually the best thing of this game. But the community is a thing outside the game and, fortunately, not being maintained by Rockstar.

I have to admit, though, that I, due to the current state of the game, am participating a lot less in the RDO community. Far less than I'd want to, to be honest.

But when it comes to the game, when I log in I immediately get that "what the hell am I gonna do?" feeling. After thinking of something, I see many features not working and log off instantly. Small issues which I didn't bother too much with earlier, are an insta quit reason now. No camp? Bye bye game. I don't even bother to reload and get a camp again. When I am in that state of mind when it comes to a game, there is nothing much that can save it for me. Do I hope it still gets good one day, like you do? Oh yes. Although I am downright negative about the game in it's current state, deep down I do hope that it will become something good one day.

Perhaps that is a reason why I still haven't dumped the game, or retired from it. A sparkle of hope (though probably never seeing that hope become reality) and the community. I don't post much, but I do come in here and on Twitter daily to read, mainly for the community.

That's why Rockstar should focus on player interaction, we should have the ability do business with other players

I don't care if we get a complex form of it to ensure no one abuse it as long as we get to do business with other players.

This way, you the wealthy veteran player won't log in and ask himself "what I am gonna do now?", you could go interact with other players, trade with them or make a deal by tasking them to do a certain job for a reward. You would have a purpose in this game.

If this were an old school MMO we'd get that but these days devs are making multiplayer games that are nothing more than single player games set in an online world. Even MMORPG's suffer from this these days, it's... sad, especially as someone who grew up playing those games and loving the player to player interaction and how it fostered communities outside and inside the games.

Selling trader units/moonshine/collector items to other players would be quite interesting.

Then you would say, why a player'd buy cargo from other players? Obviously, reselling for a bigger price. Say you pay $300 for 100 trader units, then sell them for $500 (local), $625 (remote), or even more if you sell to another player. If cargo is destroyed before you get it, you lose your investment. It'd a balanced risk-reward situation.

R* won't do any of this because people would farm it to death, too good to be true.

Yeah this is something that i can get behind. I want to look forward to player interaction. Its why im playing online in the first place. Instead we avoid interaction most of the time due to griefing and there also is no point. This is the reason i enjyed playing fivem rp for the sake of playing, not for the sake of grinding

Reason why ppl avoid other players is GTAO! I think most players here and other forums for red dead online comes from GTAO.

It could be interesting to know what ppl who never played GTAO want to ad to the game.

Some reason i think R* take so much time to release the next update.

1.Fixing the multiple bugs that might be too complex to fix without changing too much of the database of the game.

2.Trying to find a way of nerfing the collector role without making it useless. Because we all know that the other roles are just useless for earning money if you have time to search full sets with the online maps.

3. R* is working on a REALLY big update, maybe bigger than the Frontier Pursuit one. Full of little changes to make the game smoother and more optimized.

What do you think ?

I don't understand how they would sell next gen RDR2 without new SP content. People will not buy a full price game again just for online heists, this is not GTA moving from old gen to current gen, the gap in tech is smaller relatively this time.

Hopefully this drought is them planning SP content for next gen, and holding content back because they are moving online permanently to next gen. I think they might want to do much bigger things but PS4 and XBONE is long in the tooth.

There's another problem, when a new update is released, the developers start monitoring the state of the update, checking for urgent bugs that totally disable the player from experiencing the new content like the Moonshine crashes back in December 2019.

Working from home may affect that, reducing the rate at which they could push new patches/hotfixes, so it's better for them to take extra time checking for bugs even when the update is completely done.

Well, first of all you're assuming you will have to pay full price. These games WILL work on the new consoles because of backwards compatibility. To date, no one has said they are opting out of this or not supporting it. To do so would set a very bad precedent and unleash a PR nightmare on said company. I know we all love to talk about Rockstar and Take-Two's greed but they aren't quite as bad as it would require a company to be to not allow their games to be played through BC because they wanna sell another copy of the game. What has happened before is not proof of what will happen this time, it's all very different now.

BC becoming standard on future also has some very healthy long term potential for these same studios. Console has long struggled with keeping developer and publisher back catalogues purchasable on new consoles, BC solves that and moves consoles one step closer to a PC style market, where ten year old games still sell copies during sales, or when sequels and whatnot are coming out. So publishers will be wanting to support BC and not piss on it early days.

Second, people (cause they won't have to pay if they stay within the same console family) will continue to play the games they own and play on PS4 because gaming now is very different to what is in 2013, with the rise of games as a service on console. Couple that with the fact that console launches are traditionally light on new games peoples game library is about to become extra important, Sony and Microsoft are both investing in Games Pass for multiple reasons but this is also one of them, so if a PS4 owner buys an XSX or vice versa and they get a Games Pass/PS Now sub (which will probably get 2-3 months free with every console purchase) then they instantly have a huge library of games to play.

tl;dr: don't expect anything giant for the next-gen jump for RDR2 because they have no real reason to change their M.O. due to the nature of the industry today and the BC support in the new consoles minimising the impact of the next gen launches

I hope this is true, I don't want to get left behind just because I am not jumping on spending the money on a whole new console right away.

You will get left behind, but not instantly. 1-2 years of feature update parity for any cross-gen service game is what will likely happen.

I'm okay with that, and I hope that's how they go about it 🙂, my concerns were for an immediate lack of updates due to the next console release. Bad thing is that this year my 11 year old computer has finally given me the indication that she no longer wants to run my heavy 3-D rendering programs effectively so I have to put my resources into getting her replacement, buying a new console is not something I will able to do right away. 😒

so folks what are the odds of us getting some info about the next dlc tomorrow? i really hope we get something. even just a little teaser with an approximate release date. hopefully something more than the usual discounts or double xp. something we can look forward too. even if we have to wait another month. at least we would have something. what do you all think?
