they take secrecy very seriously, so when talking about new roles, or their actual plans for the future, they won't straight forward confirm to us when it's coming or if it's something to look forward to in the near future, they will be like "yeah, we might do this, we might do that and we would think of that too".

I wonder about that... I personally have a tinfoil theory about that.

For the past several updates, I've noticed a very curious thing: on Reddit, both the RDO and GTAO subreddits suddenly become swarmed with massively upvoted/gilded 'suggestion' posts, that usually come slightly out of the blue; it's not that the suggestions/ideas are wild or somehow unbelievable, but rather the weird part is how many of absolutely identical posts about relatively minor things appear at once. All of them have unnatural amounts of upvotes/gilds, even though they are literally that dumb picture of Liza Simpson near a blackboard with a short sentence like 'R* should add %random_little_thing%'.

And then the update comes. And all of those things come true. And then comes the massive influx of similarly upvoted/gilded posts praising R* for 'listening to our suggestions'.

I don't know, maybe I've just seen too much of our local shilling factory in action (also known as 'Olgino trolls'), and now I see this everywhere, but this looks like quite obvious astroturfing to me, while also being a way to know beforehand what exactly will happen in the following updates.

But then again, I might be wrong about it, and I have no way of actually confirming these thoughts.

It is just.... you know, Reddit being Reddit.

And well, the fact that Rockstar actually does pay attention to community Feedback, they did in GTA Online and they will continue to do so in Red Dead Online, as long as it does not cut into their revenue that is.

Simply because, addressing community Feedback is greatly beneficial to their Online titles life span and player activity.

Sometimes they will use that player data to open up new revenue streams as well, for example the Dodo plane and a certain car, were heavily requested vehicles for GTA Online back then when it came out for PS3.

With the Next Gen Versions, they included a Pre-order bonus for exactly those vehicles.

They do open up more around release time but after that crunch article came out they definitely opened up. Devs were on a tight leash on social media but if memory serves they received an email allowing them to share their experiences with the company and even now it doesn't seem like they re-tightened the leash as devs interact a lot more with their community on social media (in particular Twitter) now. They obviously don't talk about what they're working on but after the crunch drama it went from absolutely nothing to something and it's stayed that way.

I hope it really is down to that controversy and not an overall change within Rockstar, especially their upper Management segment, with Jerronimo Barerra and Dan Houser, both Vice Presidents of the company left.

I fear it is going to turn into just another company without them, Many people who made the culture at Rockstar, simply aren't there anymore unfortunately.

And North seems to slowly be turning into another Ubisoft, at least given by what developers post Online.

Exactly. That's why I believe 2 roles will be added as part of the new update. One collector expansion and one bounty hunter expansion. The first one being the photographer, the second one being ... (an outlaw? lawman?).

I believe, and I know this is bold, they will announce it this Thursday/Friday and release it next tuesday, April 14.

If not, then I just wait. But sometimes this month for sure. Internally the update was probably originally slated for April 7, but got delayed because of the restructuring.

Nah, i think it will be delayed until april 21, one more crappy week of showdown series.

Fix stuff FIRST!

Update/content later.

Yes we need more content, but the game NEEDS to be fixed properly FIRST!

That's four new maps.

"Overrun - Pike’s Basin"

"Plunder - Stillwater Creek"

"Spoils of War - Roanoke Valley"

"Up In Smoke - Kamassa River"

More maps are coming to two Showdown modes in the upcoming weeks.

Which means my April 14 prediciton didn't age well lol

It also means there is a chance the new update will not be coming this month anymore. Maybe April 28, maybe May 5.

I assume this is because of the home office restructuring. This would be the longest time ever between updates - 5 months.

Yes, I believe they really aren't able to finish that Update off with working from home, perhaps due to needed MoCap for missions for the Update.

It is quite unfortunate really, "Look out for fresh maps hitting two more Showdown Modes in the next couple of weeks."

Meaning that the Update isn't due for this month, and will hit May 5th at the earliest.

I really think Working from Home has hit R* quite hard to be honest, they don't seem to be able to cope quite as easy with it as other developers

Also maybe they would be on schedule if their Developers wouldn't be playing animal crossing all day, because that's what I see from their Tweets.

This game is doomed when it comes to post launch support

It had no content when it launched, I never had much faith into it.

Yet, I'm still playing it.

Honestly, who gives a sh*t about this?

I think their plan all along was to have quite a few weeks of showdown updates.

If you look back at the Newswire post on the 17th of March they said "BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR MORE SHOWDOWN MODE VARIATIONS COMING TO RED DEAD ONLINE IN THE COMING WEEKS INCLUDING:".

I think we all just assumed that the 2 examples they gave then were the only ones, but they actually had more planned

I really don't think the "plan" was to have 6 months between Updates.

I just feel that Rockstar North is taking the current situation as an excuse to not do their work properly, which is quite telling about work ethics at Rockstar these days.

Other gaming companies like Activision are already taking the opportunity to release new Updates or remastered editions.

Going by the state of showdowns lately I don't think anyone does. They used to have a lot of really high rank players in there. Now it's full of low ranks who are probably just there for dailies.

If they aren't going to give us an update till next month. Instead of more PvP sh*t how about they give us the fixes this game needs and quit wasting time with the part of game barely anyone even plays. I mean come on my trader role is stuck at level 3 cause my camp never spawns, others can't hunt cause no animals, the list goes on and on. If R* likes PvP this goddam much why don't they just drop all support for all their games they have a go make a battle royale clone like everyone else so I can laugh while there stocks crash cause R* you f*cking suck at online games. The secrecy works for new game releases it doesn't in the online game support.

The reason they only threw out PvP Modes is because those are very easy to produce.

Pushing fixes on the other hand needs another built of the game to be tested and could potentially break other things, expect the next batch of fixes to hit with the next Update, everything else would be pointless.

Each of the four showdown modes Rockstar released a month ago received a new map.

The last two modes would be Last Stand and Name Your Weapon, so we might get new maps for Last Stand next week, and Name Your Weapon will be the week after.

Hopes for April 28th or May 5th?

I realize that they are easy to produce I'm not stupid, but its not like these issues are new they have been around for a long time now in fact since the moonshiner update so they have had time to try and fix things. Plus there is the fact that this is the only game developer that can't seem to fix bugs in between updates while everyone else can and they do it rather quickly, they could be pushing out small fixes each week but they don't. I mean everyone on this forum (most of which aren't professional coders) know that the more players that are in a session the more glitches you have. Changing the limit of players per session is a quick bandaid fix they could have put out until they could nail down the problems and push out an actual fix but they haven't.

My frustration with the new Showdown modes is it's obvious that they can only do with this Showdowns. If only they listened to one of the top community requests and added survivals to the game perhaps we could be getting a whole bunch of new co-op survival maps instead.

But as it stands, the new content they're able to whip up is for the least popular part of the game. It's a bit silly.

It's not as though survivals would be that hard to create either. I can't see them being more time consuming than Showdowns.

I can't see any good reason for not adding some quick and easy to make co-op PvE to the game.
