Not a sequel to the reboot...

I'll be curious to see if they can get the OG crew (sans Harold Ramis of course) to come back for it. I know Bill Murray was the one who was adamant about NOT being in future movies in the franchise, but he DID cameo in the 2016 reboot. So who knows?

Is it wrong that I want Rick Moranis to come back more than anyone else?

Yeah it's a pity we don't see Rick Moranis anymore.

I'm excited by this. I think I read that Dan Akroyd or Harold Ramis said that Ghostbusters: The Video Game from 2009 is kind of the official sequal to Ghostbusters 2. After all, it features most of the original cast and it's Akroyd and Ramis wrote. So, it's interesting that this film is coming about.

I'm not sure what to think. Ghostbusters has a special place in my heart. It's one of my favourite films. These nostalgia films are kind of exciting for a moment but they rarely have any relevance and are kind of doomed from the get-go. Purists won't like that Ramis isn't around and any shortcomings of the film might be attributed to him unfortunately not with us - whether or not it is that.

Then theres the phenomenom of a film trying to live up to a series of films that have the benefit of a long and powerful legacy. No film will match up to that film In someone's head.. their childhood favourite film.. that nostalgia..swirling around in someone's head bringing fond memories back year and year again. For the adult now watching Ghostbusters, each viewing taps in to a happier time when life wasn't so complicated and Ghostbusters is on TV.  No film will compare with 30+ years of that legacy in a fans head. So, no matter how good this film is, it will always seem kind of meh and it will pale in comparison.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much. I'll try view the film on it's merits if I think they're trying to revisit the magic of the originals, then great. It's going to be tricky but I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

Also, did anyone think the whole trailer was all CGI? I think it is was. Not just a little bit of CGI but mostly CGI.

The trailer wasn't CGI. I grew up a SFX geek admiring Rick Baker, Stan Winston, etc. and have a bit of an eye for it. There's a filter being used to wash out much of the color and add a sickly green tint.

Me? I'm excited. This could be on par with GB2 and I'd be okay with it. Oscar nominated director Jason Reitman, son of the originals' director Ivan Reitman, long-time family friend of Aykroyd and Murray, is at the helm. Gil Kenan, who directed the GB homage Monster House (seriously, it feels like a long and great episode of RGB), is writing alongside him. It's in good hands.

Will it top the original? Not a chance. The first GB was lightning in a bottle that had the perfect cast at the perfect time with a perfectly novel premise. Will it be worth seeing? Undoubtedly.

Spaghetti Cat

What???

Why I thought the previous movie was a beloved classic, better than the original.

Seems like SONY is trying to sweep the last movie under the rug, wonder why that is...

I hear ya but its not like I'm saying there's no live-action element but large portion of it looks CGI. Obviously, the sky, clouds, stars etc are CGI, but other parts like to the right side of the shed look CGI as does the tree on the left as the camera "dollies" in. And yeah, the green colour grading is nice. After rewatching it again, my suspicions are probably elevated from the fact that there seems to be no high-res version of this teaser. It looks all compressed, whether that's YouTube's compression or it wasn't optimized all that well, or the fact it's so dark with smoke/dust/leaves - the nature of it is hard to make that stuff look smooth when it's compressed for web streaming. :)

And yes, I'm glad Reitman is taking the helm for this. For all those reasons you mentioned and the fact he's not only an accomplished director but an accomplished writer too. He's the full package.

From what I heard and read Rick Moranis had to retire or stop acting after his wife died  of cancer to raise his kids himself

Why do you think I was a Ghostbuster for Halloween, except for that being a lifelong dream.

Like I said a few posts ago, I’m hyped.

Eric Steelberg is the DP/cinematographer, who happens to know the director (Jason Reitman son of original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director, Ivan Reitman), since they are teens and have done Juno, Up In The Air together. This gives me a lot of hope because finding a pair of people such as a director/DP relationship, they know how to dance together, they are intrinsically related, creatively and on work that has been critically acclaimed. Also, Jason having his father for source material will be invaluable.

My hype for this has gone up.

I'll bet the ghost of Egon saves everyone at the end...

I just wonder if they'll try to CGI Ramis.

It looks like a good movie overall, I just hope the OG Busters have more than cameos. I want to see them bustin' ghosts

Am I a bad person for thinking the new film looks like it'll be fun? Certainly looks better than whatever the last film was based on the trailers, anywho.

I kept waiting for the other Stranger Things kids to show up. Having the original Ghostbusters be grandparents makes me feel ancient though.

I like the mini Stay-Pufts.
