Who the hell are these people? Why should I care? I don't give a flying f*ck about this lady. Don't want a camp. Why can't I just shoot these people? Why can't this sh*t be optional?

Yeah I feel like the online story is weird and most of the characters talk weird too.

You're bitching that is all, but don't get all offended mate. But since you really care to know and discuss ima answer some of your questions.

These people are the folk who introduce you to parts of the story missions, 8 of them in total so far. They are based on your level of honor and will unlock accordingly. You can't kill Horley, the Marshall, Mrs LeClerk and others giving you tasks because they will only appear in these missions respective cutscenes. Bad luck. Cripps is the turd sitting at your camp basically draining your cash for cosmetics, Jones is like him basically asking for gold to lower increase your honor. You don't want a camp, it's not possible to not have one, but simply don't go there then. It only penalises you in terms of not being able to access your very own wardrobe. ALL story missions are optional ONCE you did the intro and you can play em or leave it, nobody forces anything on you. Go hunt, fish do whatever you want or play showdowns, the latest gun rush game mode, stangers all up to you.

I liked the intro, I thought it was pretty cool. I don't trust either of those people but oh well, we'll see what happens later on, I guess.

Well, Mr. Horley and his two paid accomplices risked their lives and freedom to break you out. Then you find out that Mr. Horley was sent by Ms. LeClerk in the first place... Then they give you clothes and food and set you up with a place to stay(no matter how unreliable Cripps may be) then Ms. LeClerk explains that the very powerful people who framed you and had you wrongly convicted and imprisoned for six months are the same people who murdered her husband. She sprung you and all the other players free to help her get revenge because you guys are the only people she can trust to get the job done. Basically, the player character owes Ms. LeClerk a favor... otherwise you would have been executed in prison and then your story would have never started.

Because RDO's story missions were written by Mary-Beth and logging in is the equivalent of opening one of her novels.

The whole story will stay sh*tty if we stay silent. I just cant take it serious. There are so many odd situations in the (stranger) missions. Intro is just, well, the intro of a not so great experience in general.

The intro is used to INTROduce you to the people who can give you missions in freeroam and to get acquainted with the game mechanics and what the game has to offer.  This is done in the form of a little story to make it more interesting.

The intro serves as a tutorial, which is wise since many people are just going to dive straight into the online mode without a clue on how anything in the game works. Just be happy that tutorial is there so that newbies at least know something, or would you rather be paired with them to do missions and they don't even know how to call their horse? Even then it teaches the bare minimum, other things like how to use a f*cking lasso is never explored, and it certainly shows. If you ran "The Right Side of the Tracks" with randoms a few times, you know exactly what I am getting at.

All these bitch and moan threads. If you don't like it, don't play it, simple as that. I don't like what GTA has become in the past twelve months, but I don't go into the GTA Online threads and carry on like a little bitch about it. I just don't play it anymore. No one is forcing you to play RDR, GTA,  or any other game. If it pisses you off so much, just sell your copy on ebay and play something else. Drop the keyboard warrior bullsh*t and move on.

Having a protagonist that is mute presents a whole list of challenges when it comes to writing a story. Challenges never faced if the character is voiced like Arthur Morgan. Its not going to be on par with something like the single player because your character cannot speak and there are 1 - 3 other mutes with you at any given time. Characters have to speak to each other since they are not going to be having a conversation with your player character any time soon. This obviously will negatively impact the story in some way. Its why in almost every story cutscene there are at least two characters present so an actual conversation can take place, with our characters standing silent in the periphery as the conversation takes place. When its just one character, it gets even more awkward. Just watch a few cutscenes from Gta Online to see just how awkward it can get. Characters often speaking directly to you with frequent bursts of awkward silence since the character speaking to you cannot have a conversation with your avatar.

Calm down, it's just a game. It doesn't take long to get through it either.

There wasn't even any storyline in the the first Red Dead's multiplayer and it was a better experience for it

The online story is laughably bad compared to the SP experience. You're constantly dealing with random strangers giving you a one sided conversation while your character stands their and bobs their head like the village idiot. I've seen better story telling in arcade racing games like NFS.

Hopefully the intro becomes skippable so the suffering can stop

My only disappointment with the intro is that instead of getting a cool prison break like we expected from the leaks, we're casually let out of the wagon by Horley. It would've been so much cooler if we had a prison breakout akin to the one we have in singleplayer...

Spoiler

...where Arthur and Sadie save John in a massive shootout against lawmen as they go for a rowboat. They could've made it like that, except with many players (say, 10 or so per lobby) heading for a much bigger boat which they then have to defend using Carbine Repeaters and the like.

It was a really boring intro compared to GTA Online. Doesn't help that they're trying to sell us on a really boring story with yet another silent protagonist that has a voice and doesn't use it.

lol that first mission takes a total of like 10 min before you can free roam

to be fair thats not really the point of the online tho. of course majority of their work and story writing was going to go all into the SP. the online was just some type of basic narrative. However its not all that terrible, the missions are somewhat diverse fun to do with a posse of friends. Obviously nowhere nowhere nowhereeeee close to anything in the SP. I do look forward tho to going after the 3 remaining people. If this first person was about 10 missions I expect 10 per each person before the "boss" stage. We just really have to remember that of all the work they are putting towards the online, the story aspect of it is pretty low on their list. Thats what the SP is for. Get an amazing story there, they are trying to build up different aspects

One thing I do love and think is really cool is the voting system. With your posse being able to vote the outcomes. And some they did really cool. In the mission of "if the hat fits" there is like 3 diff things can do. Turn the guy in. Let the guy go to get the money from him. Let the guy go get the money from him and as he rides off kill him and turn him in anyway. The voting is cool

the voting is funny because it is simple but something that never even crossed into bethesdas mind. A lot of their fans would have loved a game like an elder scrolls or a previous fallout even if its just only up to 3-4 players but you vote on the outcome of missions, vote what to say to the npc's etc. So it was still a nice little touch

Me too. And after that In a certain turn of events I really hope that at some point we might get betrayed by our so called allies and then get to have our very own revenge. I would certainly love to kill that Horley idiot, I just don't like his looks ;) I hope Finch is gonna be that dude handing us train heists robberies and such.

What is the point of online then? Personally the horribly put together missions are my favourite part so far along with hunting/fishing.

They should have done the missions like they did them in GTAO. Missions for contacts around the games world with an instant start, no forced cutscenes and no cheesey story.

I thought missions were fine to. But they didnt make the online to try and give people another good story, it was people who wanted free roam with friends and PvP mode. very clear they put minimal effort into the story, and I still think its not all that bad. the voting parts are cool

The Bucketheads Mission.

It was this that first convinced me that the SP & OL staff must be 2 separate groups with no interaction with each other.

My character doesn't owe her sh*t. This already makes the assumption that my character is a good enough fella to feel obligated to help her out just cuz she helped me. Sorry, but no. I just want to be a sh*tty drifter roaming from town to town getting into fights and adventures. If I had my druthers I'd kill Horley and take his horse after he sprung me, leave him in a ditch in the desert. That's how I want MY character to be, not the way Rockstar wants him to behave. Sometimes the person in the prison wagon was there for a good reason, but no, apparently we're all just expected to help this person out of some strong moral obligation. Being railroaded into  HAVING to do this garbage story  or not get to play online at all is almost insulting.

For example  what does their sh*tty story have to with Gun Rush mode? f*cking nothing? Then why do I have to experience this poorly written garbage to play it?

Ehhh, I don't feel I'm very articulate at getting my points across.

Yo op getting destroyed here, I agree to a certain degree. Horley telling me to be loyal to his mistress can get a bit annoying and it would be pretty funny to just shoot them in the head, like a "true" outlaw or something like that.

My opinion is that the whole storyline should have been a side mission that could have been initiated separately from the start. As of now it's essentially shoehorning everyone into the same, poorly-written origin tale that no one really cares about.

All players should have essentially arrived fresh-off-the-boat/train in Blackwater/Annesburg/Armadillo/Saint Denis, with their backstory being determined by the players themselves.
