The graphical downgrade caused annoyance and rightly so but I'm more angry at the fact we wont be getting any DLC or even a RDRemake. Disappointing but expected.

I mean it was to be expected, back when RDRO was failing Rockstar chose to double down and continue fixing it, now that it's got some appeal (Bounties, treasure, etc) they can now triple down with the same excuse that GTAO had "We need to continue to build this audience and continue a profit cycle".

I wouldn’t be surprised if due to Red Dead Online initially not doing well they may have considered DLC but because now it’s doing a lot better I guess like GTA 5 it’s going to morph into an online game. Goddamnit it.

I actually don't mind that we're not getting a single player expansion pack. There wasn't really much R* could go for story wise.

Hooray.... Full throttle Online again

I really think R* has lost some of their creativity with going “full throttle” on online. I can see that you probably agree with me. I do understand that online is making more money for R* and “Take Two” but that should not really be an obstacle for R* to make a single player DLC. A single player DLC will still be making money and a huge amount of goodwill for R* so it is not exactly a bad investment by any stretch of the imagination.

While I would be fine with a single play expansion pack, where exactly would it go? We've already had an Undead Nightmare, back in 2010, when the zombie craze was still at an all time high. Now? it would seem redundant and boring.

Plus, I have always hated the idea of downloadable content. Why can't game companies just put out the game proper?

2000: "Here's the full game for $60 dollars".

2010: "Here's the full game for $60 dollars, with an original expansion pack for $10 dollars".

2020: "Here's 75% of the game for $60 dollars, pay an extra $25 to see the true ending of the game, pay $50 dollars for an exclusive gun and a secret level that we'll give away in a few months at a much cheaper price, $20 dollars for items that probably should have been in the base game in the first place, and $10 for things we cut from the game but added back in as downloaded content".

Expansion packs were already a thing in the 2000s. In fact, GTA VC was going to be a paid expansion of GTA III... And many other games had paid expansions. Undead Nightmare and Episodes from Liberty City were legitimate afterthoughts/additions to the game that should be paid as they're both pretty big expansions that took time and resources to make.

Though replacing a fully-fledged DLC like this with Online content, that's a nuh-uh from me.

Well, i can live with that. If they keep giving us singleplayer masterpieces like rdr2 every 5 years or so and milk online in between to get rich its fine by me. I will just wait for the next gta Singleplayer.

Expansion Packs and downloadable content definitely weren't as common in the early 2000 as they are now. They only started to get picked up around the seventh generation of consoles. Remember "horse armor" for Elder Scrolls Oblivion? Yeah, that was the beginning and it has only gotten worse.

At least with those two DLCs, they were built somewhat from the ground up. Grand Theft Auto 4 still felt like a complete game, since Niko's story had only little bearing on Johnny and Luis' stories. Undead Nightmare was completely different from the single player and a non-canon "what if?".

Nowadays, game companies are literally locking the ending from the players, for an extra $20 dollars. I swear, if another company created Red Dead Redemption 2, then Arthur's death would be the ending of the game and the epilogue would be an expansion pack.

If R* wants to create a single player DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2, then that's fine. If they don't and want to focus on multiplayer instead, then that's fine too.

Undead Nightmare had more than just zombies and considering there’s supernatural Easter eggs in Redemption 2, each of those could be explored in what I think could be called Apocalypse Nightmare.

But it’s just going to be scrapped and used online every October. Vampire slayings, ufo mysteries, Sasquatch hunting, chupacabra hunting, horses of the apocalypse, ghost sightings and so many other things all online exclusive

sad

If they rolled out private lobbies or friendly-only lobbies I’d be more inclined to pick up online with a legit DLC but every time I get on there you can’t do sh*t without someone following you around killing you every time you respawn or sitting near a story marker waiting to pick you off

In regards to The Rockstar interview recently, they say that dlc is not their priority and they are 100 percent focused on online, words to that effect, basically.

Yet I remember listening to Roger Clark in the above link, because I always thought with what he said there was gonna be some dlc. He mentions he is seeing Stephen later and that's its going to be one of the announcements that's coming later. He says it around 9.45. He also says at some point about R* working on RD still, online and what not. "What not" being pc?
