Your favourite AW mine

Recommended Posts

White Shark

What is your favourite mine from those recently released with this update?  As a reminder:

  • Kinetic
  • Spike
  • Slick
  • Sticky
  • EMP

Would be interesting to hear from those who have chosen something other than the Kinetic mines.  Either a different mine you have had better success with, or a particular one to fit a theme you have for a vehicle etc.

I put Slick mines on my Cerberus for that whole oil tanker oil slick effect.

None of them, they're niche use mines made specifically for the arena war mode

why can we even use them in freemode when they are completely useless there?

I have a mine that can pop someone's tires except everyone has bulletproof tires and you'd actually be lucky to find someone still using land vehicles in freemode in 2019

PvP isn't the only thing that exists in the game. So ignoring the fact they may be useless against other players, let's discuss further.

EMP mines are a fate worse than death in free mode and i love them for that

on the other hand, stacking kinetic mines and using them to juggle cars or bounce airplanes into the sky faster is really fun, so i'd say it's a tie between them

oil slick gets an honorable mention because of GTA 2 and how if you stand in a puddle your character twitches out

Kinetics because they aren't so expensive and volatile to your own car, but certainly will f*ck over bikers using the OP Deathbike in Arena War games which they can fall off the bike.

You can use it to shut down I/E cars and shoot the driver with minimal damage so its a win for me. Plus other annoying npc's who have a vehicle you need to jack.

Emp mines against rivals I/E cars, drag them out of the car and kill them with the stone hatchet, steal their car.

This is pure gold!

Can any chucklehead off the street buy the AW vehicles and add these, or do we need to play the arena games?

(I'm assuming the need to buy the workshop first, of course)

Yeah, though they'll cost more. :(

those aren't mines, those are toys.. and this is not 2014;

put those toys against a khanjali gonna be like you just sneezing on her..

2019 is a futuristic warzone, no one is going to chase you on a stolen npc car anymore..

all the mines are pretty much low and their effects are kinda unnoticed and the thing is they are all designed for the arena war,

those are toys to mess with you opponents and add some humble obstacles in the arena grounds so you have a chance to score some progress while on the arena adversary modes, nothing more i guess..

kinetic mine i would say if i have to choose, atleast to get rid of those deathbikes..

each of those mines are useful in different arena modes but you know.. i don't think about it at all;

people play to forget a little about their lives and relax a little,

love you all

I don't understand the hate for these different mines.  I love them!  I have yet to try out the Sticky Mines as I'll need to get another vehicle to put them on, but the rest are great!

PvPers, yes you're obviously not gonna like or use these because your only focus is fighting other players and killing each other in the fastest and easiest way possible.  I tell ya, if there was a weapon that once fired it did nothing but teleport you back to your apartment and sat you in your chair in front of the TV, whilst a butler walks in and goes "Excuse me sir, but the target has been neutralised as per your request", you would all fall over each other to be the first to use it.

But for me, who is heavily into missions and PvE, these mines are great!  And also great fun.  Here's a video of me messing about with the Slick Mines.  Yes, they don't have much effect on other players who walk over them, but as for NPCs...

The second part I'll grant you, but Spikes actually pop BP tyres - fun to f*ck up people's MOCs or TBs etc.

Can anyone explain how "Sticky" works?

PS Kinetic ftw, especially on the Bandito ❤️

Thinking of the EMP mine, would any GTA Forumers be willing to test something for me? It's honestly quite strange the results I'm getting - testing vehicle's explosive resistance to stuff. The results when the vehicle is occupied seem okay, but when the vehicle isn't occupied it's a bit weird.

So thinking of the vehicle NOT being occupied, I tested out the Brickade (called from Pegasus), and the first time it took 5 EMP Mines to blow it up, the next time it took 9 and the time after that it took 6. My testing accounts for lag, so it couldn't have been that.

It's 12 EMP Mines to destroy it when the Brickade is occupied and that seems pretty consistent.

Maybe I'll just give up the "unoccupied testing" and just get the results for when someone's in the vehicle - that's the more realistic scenario anyway.

Sticky looks like the slick mines, leaving an oily puddle, but instead it acts like a glue, instantly slowing down any vehicle which passes over it.  And like the Slick, the puddle remains there for a fair few seconds, slowing down other vehicles which pass over it.

And I didn't know the Spike Mines pop BP tyres!  Are you sure??

100% in the Arena and fairly sure out of it, if MOCs are anything to go by.

...Hmmm

Is that GTA 3 standard death animation? Surely looks like it.

Whoa! That's great news!

I might put these on my Dominator apocalypse then, then should be effective for Wreck It in fending off bikers.

But the question is, do they pop our tires too?

As of Arena War, yes, all mines now work in heists and CMs.

I'll recheck this then, I know I tested with Insurgent PU but will give an AW vehicle a go.

So yeah got that wrong, AW mines don't work. Tried putting my car in normal garage but not then either. It does give you the mines tooltip so maybe this is an error.

Kinetic mortars and electrified fenders etc still work.

A friend of mine told me that "sticky" mines were a type of sticky bomb, lol. Not quite! They're literally sticky.

Personally I like slick mines and watching them splurrrrrrrge in the middle of the street, and seeing NPC cars sliding around. The animation and splattering of oil are great, and they are also great fun for AW modes like Wreck It, for example. A nice surprise, and a lot more fun than EMP and kinetic IMO. Spike is pretty good though, and is a great deterrent against the hoards of rampaging deathbikes.

After trying out all the mines, I've come to the conclusion that the AW sticky mine is the most useless one.  It makes vehicles slow down, but they soon speed up again.  The effect doesn't last long enough.  Whereas the slick mines cause vehicles to skid all over the place, wheel spin long after they've passed the slick puddle and crash easily.

Order of usefulness:

1st:  EMP Mine

2nd:  Slick Mine

3rd:  Kinetic Mine

4th:  Spike Mine

5th:  Sticky Mine

I actually really love all of them bar the Sticky Mine as it's pretty useless.

Whoever at r* decided I could have kinetic mines on my Bandito, I thank you.
