I Was A "Griefer" Once Upon A Time - Storytime

I thought I might share this story on how I was once an aggressive, trigger happy PvP player that changed into a PvE Co-op only player, hope you enjoy.

Back in the good old RDR1 multiplayer days, I was around the rank 20, I go to Friendly Free Roam when I wanted to rank up and went to Normal Free Roam when I was looking for a fight. One day I spawn in El Presidio, where there was a posse of 5 or 6 terrorizing Diez Coronas. That posse would ride around, killing every player they come across. They had two victims they were messing with and I became the third. After I got killed three times, I retaliate back by killing three of them in succession. They must've been impressed because they sent me a posse invite. I shouldn't have accepted it and just kept on fighting them, but I joined in on their bloodbath.

I got on my horse and rode with them, constantly killing these two players that couldn't really do anything since we were quick to kill them again everytime they spawn back in. Not gonna lie, I was enjoying it, probably ranked up twice during that massacre. Then there he was, the hero spawned in and started to take us out, my posse and him traded kills with each other. The hero started to get the upper hand on my posse members, I used that opportunity to ride away.

I make it to Chuparosa, I go into the the building where you can climb on the ladder to get to the top floor. I noticed that my posse members left the session and I know that the hero was coming my way. I camped in that spot, I see the green dot on the mini map going around the building. I get a Shotgun ready and point it at the top of the ladder. The hero made a mistake climbing up that ladder as I blast his chest open. The hero gets smart and climbs up the side path which I didn't know of at that time. His gamertag on top of his head gave away his position so I adjusted my shotgun and fired at the window. I hit him but I didn't kill him. He crouches and slowly makes his way to the door, trying to get me through the window. Once he charged through the door and we shoot and kill each other.

We spawn on opposite sides of Chuparosa where we again kill each other at the same time. I spawned near the building and got back up to where I camped. The hero turned on his Mic and lectured me on why the sh*t I was doing with that posse was wrong, he must've probably known I wasn't like them for some reason (maybe since I was a better fighter than my posse was). He said to come out of the building with no weapon in hand to show I wasn't like them. I did what he said and stood by him. I didn't have a Mic but I sent him a message telling him I was wrong of what I was doing and I wouldn't kill any other player unless they attack me first.

After sending it to him, I went into Friendly Free Roam to go rank up. That point forward, I never really went back to Normal Free Roam, I was strictly Friendly after that where I met and made 90% of my friends on my friends list today. Friendly wasn't of course totally friendly since players can kill each other horses and can kill with the Explosive Rifle but I became good at it doing that to other assholes. Blowing them to pieces when they mess with my posse.

After that experience, I sorta don't like no kind of PvP anymore and I've come to found Co-op a whole lot more fun. Don't know why, that experience just left a bad taste, I will still kill other players if they try to kill me or my posse members but I sometimes hesitate to pull the trigger. I thought I share this story to show that players can change play style through an experience and to give you a nice story to read.

I'm not against PvP, I just prefer not to engage in it anymore.

I used to be a pker back in the Ultima Online dread lord days. One day I chased a new blue near my tower down and killed him. He offerered no resistance. After checking him and seeing his basic loot, I felt terrible. His name was Dirk from Germany. A real nice guy. He became good friends with another friend of mine who had just started. I let them both live at my tower and showered then with lootz.

I have never openly pkd since. I go after those who do pk. In UO we were called, Antis.
