Friendly encounters

Over the weekend I was hunting for bird near Blue water marsh and ended up near the train tracks next to the swamps near Shady Belle. A pack of 3 players rode by as I was about to skin a gator so I waited to begin skinning. 1 player stopped, saw me standing near the gator then slowly started trotting into San Denis toward his buddies. Then I decided to start skinning, AS SOON AS I began the animation, he jolted back toward me and hit me with 4 shots but luckily didn't kill me, my animation ended and I 1 shot that SOB in the head. Quickly, I popped a health tonic and ate a minty Big Game and waited for retaliation... I killed him 3-4 more times before his buddies came barreling back toward my direction. One rode threw the trees as I killed his 2 friends and got close enough to down me with a shotgun...just got lucky honestly. I then began moving cover to cover picking them all 3 off over and over again. They retreated into a large building at the western entrance of San Denis (train station maybe) ...one scored another lucky kill on me as I lay waste to the other 2 in seconds. They re-grouped back inside where I was able to hit 1 with dynamite and clear the other 2 with my Lancaster. I assumed control over the building. They were able to get a legit kill on me to get me out. on my run back to the building I saw they picked off a player riding in with a packed horse but they only downed him (he was in the wide open...so reviving him was risky but I went for it. I picked him up after fortifying my health. I assumed he would then assist me in the battle so I take cover by a small ticket booth or something like that....next thing I know.....im taking fire from my flank......THE DUDE I SAVED STARTED SHOOTING AT ME?!?!?!?!?!?  I turn and blast him...now I'm fighting 4 guys. From that point forward....they didn't kill me at all and eventually parleyed and then quit. Cant believe some people. Ill never understand some of these players logic. But...its a game. When the player age group ranges from 4yrs to 44 yrs....nothing is likely to make sense.

^^ That's why I (for the most part) shoot first and ask questions later.

I give people the benefit of the doubt--if there's reason to doubt... but most of the time, I see patterns that indicate or promote suspicion.

Players who are also clearly trying to mind their own business will give you plenty of space and won't linger in your area or make suspicious movements. For those players I leave well alone.

Everybody else gets a Shotgun slug or Bolt-Action split-point round to the head.

I once met a player, we both gave each other the thumbs up and then went on our merry way. It was magical. 😎

LOL had that Saturday until the game ruined it. Both of us left Valentine and sent waves to each other as peace. Went to Stranger mission and it was a player kill one. The guy I just waved to in Valentine.

Found and killed him. Sent him an apology that the mission was to kill him and wasn't personal.

He laughed it off...and then shot me.

I was riding thru Cumberland Forest (I thought alone) when I came upon someone about 25 yards out in the trees. Good looking character, cool outfit and a perfect stance with what looked like a bolt action pointed right at my noggin. He stood there steady as a rock as I glanced his way then slowly walked my thoroughbred further down the trail to give him the space he not so subtlety requested.

First friendly encounter was when I was dropping off my hunting at the butcher and some asshat came up tackled me to the ground and hog tied me.  Just as I thought "damn well I'm dead now", someone raced over, shot my assailant in the head, untied me and ran off!  Didn't even wait for a thank you wave!  :)

Next was when I was hunting treasure and I saw someone else in the area.  When they didn't shoot me, I figured they were also hunting for it, so we left each other alone as we searched.  Then I get shot (not killed) and we're the only 2 people around.  I'm thinking to myself why is this asshole now choosing to try and kill me now, I've still not found the treasure, maybe they think I have...  Anyway they keep shooting but not at me, and I think for memory they were jumping up and down - then I realise they were trying to get my attention to let me know they found the treasure and where it was!  So that was nice!

Last one was when I found a tiny donkey (I think it was near Valentine?), but there were only a few people online... so I made the effort of riding that little guy all the way over to St Denis as that was the closest place I saw another player marker.  When I got there I rode up to someone (wondering if he was going to shoot me) - he gave me a wave and I even accidentally pulled out my gun instead of waving back but he kept calm, I nodded to him and rode off.   Rode up to the other person in the area (guns holstered) and he shot me in the head.  There ended my pony adventures :P

Well every time I try to be nice someone shoots me in the back like yesterday player rides past me but didnt shoot me so i continue to ride now he turns around and starts following me so I turn around and put my gun away still no shooting maybe he is friendly but then when he rides past me again bang shot in the back.. Thats why I usually shoot first cause most encounters with players have been like this for me so f*ck being friendly 9/10 they shoot if I dont shoot first

A few weeks ago, while I was, uh, fishing outside of Blackwater, a player suddenly spawned right behind me (apparently was session hopping via last location), and came up beside me.

Before I had a chance to figure out whether I should defend myself, they were crouching next to me, helping me fish; so I figured I'd give them a chance, and hope for the best.

Turns out I was right--we basically shared the loot fish for a while, and they eventually left.

Very, very(!) rare.

Whoever that was, thank you for not killing me--"So long and thanks for all the fish!" :)

Yeah had the same thing recently. was great.

Fished with this other player in unspoken harmony for a good 15 minutes till a griefer pose rolled through town and shot us in the back.

Great to know there's some cool players out there and the griefers should hopefully find stuff better to do soon.

Had a friendly encounter, once, until I realized he was a friend I knew from GTAO and thought to myself "ah that's why you didn't try to kill me" 😂

Nothing better than coming across a player and you both go your own way without incident.

I’m sorry, but the logic of your post just flew way past my head. Are you saying that he’s guilty of murdering an animal and therefore you’re allowed to shoot him and steal from him? Lol

well, last night was a prime example of HOSTILE encounters. being interrupted/shot at during hunts, wagons being destroyed, almost getting shot at from everyone I ran into.

business as usual one could say, last session felt EXTREME though, like there was an auto-troll-spawn-system in the works to make sure you cannot do anything in peace

^^ Yeah, for whatever reason(?) some nights are better than others.

I'm just thankful for every moment of peace and quiet when I can do something and actually enjoy the game.

Hi everyone new here. Been enjoying reading the forums for a while and thought I’d sign up.

One particular encounter I remember only a week or so into the beta was when my horse was critically injured and I didn’t have any horse reviver on me. Saw a player approaching thinking he was going to kill me but instead got off their horse and revived my horse for me. We waved at each other and then rode off. Quite a nice moment.

I dunno what all of you people do to annoy so many players to kill you.

I‘m playing since day one and very rearly get griefed. Most people are friendly in this game, especially compared to gta.

Might it be that you get put together in lobbies with players that have same honor as yourself?

Since I mostly hunt my honor is almost always full, maybe that‘s why?

I dont annoy anyone, most the time I just hunt animals. I try to be friendly with anyone I come across with a wave but most time I either get killed or lassoed. My honor is maxed out.

Offtopic: if you buy a second saddle and put it on a horse in the stable you can insta-call it when the other one dies?

Once just before Christmas, my brother and I turned the bar in Valentine into a safe space. We started drinking there over a private party chat and pretty much did nothing else there's except stumble around or sit down. Several players also came to join us. It was fun as we both enjoy Christmas tunes. Eventually, people would enter the bar to check us out, and if they drew a weapon, we would all simultaneously draw our weapons. There was an order about the place. If someone came in to attack, they were instantly attacked by the group. We gave each player second and third chances to refrain from aggression by always waiting for the player to initiate violence. We also nonverbally agreed to remove bodies from the bar when there was a mishap.  Eventually, this club of 10-12 players were drinking and we ended the session with some fist fighting/mud wrestling in the streets. No one used guns as the group would point guns at the combatants in the event that they pulled a weapon. It was pretty spontaneous and I wonder if something like that will happen for me again or if we just ended up with the right core of players on the same page to be able to execute something like that. All told this developed over 2 or so hours in total before my brother and I had to leave the session on account that there seemed to be no end in sight to this neat gathering.

Ugh; I wish I could have been there to get you out of that BS.

If someone manages to hogtie me, I just shut my game down and relaunch it. I have no time for that crap.

It's the same kind of cheap-a** griefing that the Stun gun in GTA Online would have enabled.

I do exactly the same jump lobby strait away, I guy i know stayed in to watch what they did to him once they hog tied  then towed to there camp cut him up placed on fire, when he re spawned they chased him down and repeated it. this went on for half an hour. he did record it and sent it to R* and sony

IMO this type of griefing warrants a perma ban this is sick these guy are mentally unstable

Ultimately, I blame Rockstar for leaving the lassoing of players in RDO.

@Fun 2 warned about it, and it's happening all the time.

Besides being obnoxious, lassoing of other players is a waste of time for the player being lassoed.

I made some very good online friends in gta. I thought there will be no such thing in RDR2. Everyone will freak out if someone is coming near.  I will open fire first if there is any doubt about someone's intentions.

I was fishing at a lake. All great and peachy, until I noticed someone next to me. I totally freaked out. I was about to make it rain lead, until I noticed that the stranger was fishing as well. We just stood there fishing for awhile. I got a friend request, which I accepted. And we parted ways.

A week later, I decided to pay my new buddy a visit. So I spawned next to him in the same session. My new buddy freaked out completely, throwing dynamite. I texted him to chill.

So we formed a posse. We hunted awhile and we went to Blackwater to sell the spoils. I sold my stuff at the butcher and ended the sale dialog. I immediately got jumped by a griefer. That's a classic.

I died. Upon respawning I equipped my shotgun and killed the griefer. The blast also critically injured his horse. So I got the griefer pinned down. I spawn raped the griefer in succession, until he parleyed. And then my buddy killed the griefer in succession until he parleyed again.

Then the griefer texted: "tu tue mon cheval." A Frenchie! So I took out my mobile and looked up Google translate. "Mort a tous les chagrins!" or death to all griefers! I pissed my pants of laughing out loud.

This small episode made me not to give up on RDR2 online.
