The deadend of hunting

Hunting eventually becomes a deadend.  Aside from just the joy of it, you're doing it for a few reasons:

  1. Trophies + Achievements
  2. Upgrades + Outfits
  3. Money

You gain your trophies, job done.  Then you eventually have more than enough money a couple pelts isn't exactly going to break the bank.  Camp Upgrades... I thought they did more, but all I can tell is it's cosmetic and of course later in the game, you can't even finish them!

Outfits though... you can get some nice outfits from the Trapper for your pelts and such.  This eventually dries up though!  There's been times I've been up north without the proper gear, watching one of the many deers stroll by.  Wouldn't it be nice to craft your own coat?

Fancy Schmancy DLC wish

You get trained how to create your own outfits!  This could be simply letting you craft what the Trapper already has or Rockstar introduces new assets.

  • Gain recipes from the Trapper OR trade/intimidate strangers OR find some hidden recipes in old cabins (more use for those now unused shacks)
  • Each garment has 3-5 ranks of quality
  • Each recipe unlocks your ability to stitch a garment.  Multiple recipies create a complete a specific outfit with some minor perk
  • Each successful camp crafting increases your rank in making that garment
  • There's a small skill check minigame by twirling analog sticks to successfully sew
  • Higher Rank = quality of value (to sell later)
  • Higher Rank = color dye unlocks (how about a red bear head? ...maybe this involves collecting certain herbs?)
  • Higher Rank = degrades slower over time
  • Higher Rank = quality of warmth or cooling (not much of a perk, but could mean top quality items = less overall items to wear to be consider cold-weather gear... run around in with only a Rank 5 cougar vest on mountaintops, ha)
  • Higher Rank = 1-3 attachment options (sheesh, can I please use all these bear claws, eagle claws, and cougar teeth for something?)
  • Toss in some new combo outfits, perhaps even an uber outfit for crafting all outfits.  How about next-gen version of the Expert Hunter Outfit from the previous game?

Here's the endless kicker...

  • You can sell them and make more!  A complete outfit not just parts of one means a higher $$ payout
  • While they degrade like weapons, they become useless and fall apart if you're shot too many times!
  • (You can repair them at camp with no skill check, you only need the matching pelt)

Now you can have a $$ or Style reason to continue to hunt forever if you like!

its not the hunting. its the game mechanic. the game wants you to play the story and do the hunting missions. but the rewards tell you to go hunting and unlock the stuff you want to wear right away becasue later the game is over and than its kind of too late to get a cool jacket.

also you want to unlock the bigger satchels, so that when you go hunting, you can carry more. so after you hunted it all down you can finally get the ultimate satchel for..... well for what now?  hunting is over. i dont need 99 space anymore, thanks game!  you do something to unlock something that helps you unlocking it, but its already unlocked.

or you try to grind it all right in the beginning so all the perks are with you while playing through the story..  never happens!!

Even without the story, awards, clothing I would still pay full price just for the hunting in this game.

I shot something just for sport yesterday and felt bad about it until I reminded myself that it's just a video game and no one really cares if I skin it or not

Honestly I like that better than GTAV where nothing really unlocks until your 90% done with  the game.

This is why I am still in chapter 2 of my second playthrough.

Not leaving chapter 2 until I have all the camp upgrades, all satchels, and all items I want from the trapper.

At end game I'll finish up any loose ends.

Slowly running out of things to buy at the trapper now. I think those bird feather accessories for the hat will be the toughest to get, and they mostly look kinda stupid anyway

I hate spending all this time hunting and then I just end up wearing the panther gloves and bear chaps, and the rest is storebought clothes and a stolen hat

Yeah I hunt in the game because I want to eat. See something, shoot it, skin it, cook it.

There really should have been way more clothes to choose from in the game, both ar the normal stores but also at the trapped. Sometimes when I play I wonder why there are so few choices of colour in regards to many of the clothing articles.

All the trinkets are worthless if you don't get them all in chapter 2, imho.

By the time you get to the end of chapter 3, the story really takes the lead over freeroaming with Arthur, and the next thing you know - you're John and don't need any of these trinkets.

Who cares if you can level up deadeye faster once the game is over, for example???
