Tonesta
So let me preface this post by saying that: a) I love this game. I love the world. I love the storyline. I love the insane variety of content and things to do. I love that despite having played 150+ hours, there's still a dozen things I want to do in the game world; and b) I get that 100% completion is supposed to be a stretch goal - a very time-consuming task requiring a time and effort commitment that only a crazy person would make But even given that, RDR2's 100% requirements are really freaking frustrating! Both GTA4 and GTA5 required a lot of work (I didn't try RDR1, so can't say) but there was a sense of progress and a certain amount of inevitability about it. I need to collect 200 of these things here, clear out 20 of these hideouts here, do a bunch of stunt jumps and knife flights etc. If you're good enough at the game, and persistant, then you'll get it done. But RDR2 is that much more annoying because several of the tasks involve not skill or hard work but blind luck. Most particularly (although there may be more): - The taxidermy quest. First you've got to get good at hunting - fair enough. But then you need the correct birds/animals to spawn. And you need them to be 3* (or bare minimum 2* and then get lucky with the Buck trinket). It took me three entire in-game days to find a perfect woodpecker! I'm sure I was in a good spot (because I did get at least half a dozen 'good' woodpeckers, as well as at least a dozen perfect Blue Jays/Orioles/Songbirds/Sparrows/Waxwings) and using the right weapon (Small Game Arrows). I just got unlucky, and so it took a loooooong time. And now I need to go find a perfect Robin. Sigh. - The exotics quest. Firstly, it's insanely long. But that's OK. I'm happy to load up a guide and go collect orchids for however long it takes. But the birds.....the ****ing birds. So you go egret hunting - head for the spawn spot and nab a few. And then you have to wait a few days before you go back and they respawn (because they won't respawn while there are carcasses around). And then you go back, and all you find is herons and spoonbills. So you wait a few more days, and then you just need a couple of snowy egrets to finish off and you kill a flock of nothing but reddish and little egrets. And then you think herons are going to be easy, because you couldn't stop running into herons back when you were hunting egrets - but nope, now they all seem to have disappeared and there's nothing but spoonbills everywhere. Oh, and plenty of snowy egrets now you don't need them. Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!! Again - not skill or persistance alone; you need luck or it takes forever - The gambler challenges. #8 in particular. It's got it's own thread so I won't go into it further here, but again - not skill, not hard work, just pure luck. The completionist in me wants to keep going and finish this thing off. But the sane person in me is acknowledging that I'm not really having any fun doing this any more (unlike the aforementioned GTA games - where I did enjoy myself all the way through) - and I would have more fun if I finished off the last half dozen missions and then played the story, the strangers, the bounties and the legendaries again. OK, venting over. But request to Rockstar - can you please, please include less blind chance in your next title's 100% checklist so people like me don't go so crazy! Anyone out there disagree and think that 100% was a fun, fair challenge? Rafae S
Cutter De Blanc
With the exception of Gambler 8 it sounds like the way you are doing it is making it unfun for you. I'm going for 100% but not trying to treat it like it's a job, just taking my time. If I see one of them birds as I'm riding, I shoot it. Not "heading to its spawn location." That sort of thing turns it into a chore. Enjoy yourself. This game is supposed to last for years till the next Rockstar game comes out. Doing side tasks as I played through the story was the way I tried to enjoy the game. And it's been great for things like regular collectibles and herbalist challenges........ But the fact is that in ~150 hours of playing the game normally, I never found a woodpecker. Not once. Never saw an egret either until I went looking for them for the exotics quest. And now I'm rather running out of other tasks to do (just six more main missions to go, half a stranger thread, maybe a handful of other collectibles) so I kind of feel like I need to make an effort to finish these outstanding fetch quests. And I'm not finding them fun!
Cutter De Blanc
Those woodpeckers are rare for me, it makes it special when I get one. Shot one randomly out of the sky yesterday. I was like, "woah cool, woodpecker" Can't f*cking stand using those small game arrows for anything, so the buck trinket is helpful in regards to that. It might look two stars on the ground, but when I pick it up its perfect. I just kinda ride around having Arthur live his life, trying not to break things down in terms of tasks, just taking it all in. Admittedly those challenges I do kind of have to say "I'm going to do this" since some of the challenges aren't things I'd do normally in the course of gameplay. Probably as the 100% list gets smaller and smaller for me, I'll have to abandon convention a bit more. Ingrobny and Urban Legends

Looks like I have more luck than you when it comes to hunting for animals, I struggle with the plumes and of course gambler challenge 8. I have rolled the game back to chapter 2 again, so I need to do the hunting for animals and plumes all over again, maybe I'm not so lucky this time though. Edit. Trying to watch youtube videos of spawning locations of the different birds didn't help me, I ended up riding around and shot all small birds I could find and that's how I did the the taxidermy missions. lol232
GTA V barely required sh*t for 100%. You only needed to beat 30%-40% of the side missions to get 100%. It was kinda sh*tty, and easy. GTA IV on the other hand, had a lot of sh*t to do, so doe RDR2, so I agree. All that said... You're not really forced to beat the game 100%. Guest Guest176525326
Imagine how long it would take to achieve 100% without any guides whatsoever. It would be pretty much unachievable... drizzi_b
If you are looking for multiple animals, namely the Egrets that you mentioned. The dead ones don't need to disappear before more show up. Go to the spot where you know they spawn near Lagras, then kill as many as you can find, save and EXIT the game and load back in. I had a lot of luck with that and it did look like a blood bath on the map with all the dead carcasses lol. Ingrobny
