Another Outlet sh*ts on RDR2

They are pioneers but there are some who say that others have surpassed them. There are many people who feel AC Odyssey is a much better game than RDR2. It is not an uncommon opinion and some people think BOTW is the best open world game ever. Not saying I agree but these views are not unheard of.

My friend is in his 30s but takes gaming very seriously and says that the high review scores and the pass Rockstar gets is downright insulting and if anybody else released this game it would get torn to shreds.

If your friend takes gaming very seriously then why didn't he do his own research and watch a couple of let's plays for example before buying the game. Rather than  jumping on the bandwagon, looking at a couple of scores from someone else's opinion and buying the game because of that, only to feel disappointed.

This is probably the kind of reaction the guy who wrote the article want, better not even read and care and react about what he says.

Unless this is valid opinion, which mean two things: *supported by facts and reasonable* then no opinion and anything from anybody matter.

This is one thing that many people does not realize; Your subjective thoughts are worthless if not valid!

For me, RDR2 story is easily a modern classic. RDRO leaves a lot to be desired, but it has potential so we'll see where that goes, but story mode is a damn fine game.

Totally agree. The story itself blows most of the stuff on TV and movies out of the water imho. What really made it for me was the large gang of friends the protagonist has (haven’t counted by I think it’s 20 or just over) who have genuinely different personalities. The whole way it starts to shift and how different characters react is so well done.

I get why some people don’t like it. It’s incredibly detailed and requires a lot of investment to learn to play it properly and get the most out of it - I suspect some don’t have the patience and/or time. That’s what I love about it, each to their own.

Whichever camp you fall into though that’s blindingly obvious. Not sure how many threads/articles are needed saying the same thing.

Nine hours later and I'm surprised this topic is still open, I don't see what purpose it serves other than woggleman to do his usual 'so many people hate this game.'

I wouldn't even understand why it would warrant it's own thread if the source was a very respected one, but it's Vice which makes it even more laughable.

The only thing that bothers me in this game is not being able to sprint with your horse when you’re with someone, it would be so badass to hear the thud of the horses going full speed ahead with 4 other people.

When leslie benzies left rockstar games, gta v single player gained a lot of glitches and bugs with online patches. Now in rdr2 single player, missing exotics, missing rare animals  and more bugs came with online patches.

With leslie benzies, everything was fine in past games like gta iv, tlad, tbogt, rdr, max payne and more wasnt have important bugs like this.

ah yes there were literally no game breaking glitches in any gta ever, no ice cream save game corruption, no cheats literally rendering the game unfinishable, yeah it was all fine before one person got fired from the company.

Agreed. All R* titles have had bugs/glitches.

RDR2 being the biggest open world game Rockstar has ever released, the ratio of glitches is bound to go up. Nothing unusual here.

PS: I’m well bored of people bringing up Leslie Benzies, like he was a second coming of Jesus. Without him on board Rockstar managed to create the masterpiece that is Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rushed? I’m not even sure if you’re saying that just to be edgy

That's the new "cool" thing, I guess. The term "rushed" is so overused nowadays that I came to realize that people use it when they don't like a game, movie etc, for whatever reason, and they don't know what to really talk about, so they just say that the thing is rushed, so that they can look "cool and smart", even though they have no idea what the hell they're talking about. I've seen some people saying the same thing about GTA V.

RDR2 can be literally anything but rushed. 8 years. 2 official delays over an already pushed forward schedule (due to the success of GTAO). No, just no.

Counter-culture is a thing everywhere it seems. It also seems that this outlet was probably keen to snag a nomination for the Edgelord 2019 Awards early (even though I’ve not read it and am just guessing by reaction).

When i said rushed in terms of gameplay testing. surely the linearity of the missions and the disconnect between what is going on in the world would have raised some issues. red dead 2 is an amazng game if you look at individual parts of the game seperately but its not better than the sum of its parts it kinda falls apart in that sense.

It's hard to get clicks when you're just another critic praising an incredible game. Write an article sh*tting on something most everyone loves and suddenly people are posting links to your article on message boards. Then your article gets more and more clicks than the article written by the sucker sitting in the cubicle next to you. If you're desperate for clicks say something that is against the mainstream with a provocative headline. That's the internet journalism business.

Linear missions still aren’t a product of a rushed game. If it is a flaw then it is one that belongs to the game design and not the actual state of a finished product. No amount of gameplay testing would change the linear nature since that is what Rockstar was going for in terms of the storyline.

I also don’t even know what you mean by “disconnect beteeen what is going on in the world”. If you mean about your actions in free roam having no impact during the story then its worth pointing out that they do. Certain actions affect your honour level, and your level of honour will change how certain scenes play out. If I’ve missed the point then I ask whether you could make the point clearer.

As more time passes people will realize its not a very good game and actually its very rushed.

COUGH GTA V COUGH But seriously though, RDR2 deserves all the praise IMO.  Packed to the brim with content, doesn't feel rushed, AND doesn't leave me feeling short changed and dissatisfied like GTA V did.

I agreed with you then, that this is a niche game.

I still stand by that statement.

I love the game and I think you do as well.

But I fully understand why RDO is failing. R* expected another GTAO cash cow and that's why they basically copied the formula for this game. It will not and cannot work like this for RDO. (but that's another topic)

I think R* knew exactly that RDO wouldn't succeed. That's why it lacks content and R* used their resources for the SP because they knew it would be the reason for the sales.

But almost everyone doesn't love it. Sure it has people that love it and in good numbers but all over the internet it is getting criticism. I am not allowed to post links but on most gaming boards it is pretty divisive.

It doesn't feel rushed. Rushed isn't the word I'd use. It feels like as vast and huge as this game is, there are still some areas that were unfinished. Like they wanted to cram EVERYTHING in here but just didn't have enough time to, so they ended up cutting things and leaving others in a playable but incompleted state. I'd reference the lack of Chuparosa and Nosalida being visible from America as some evidence of that. I'm sure they wanted to have the city visible in the distance, but didn't have enough time to design it up to snuff and figured most people wouldn't care since the area is inaccessible anyway. I mean that's just one small example, but I hope I'm making my point.

Gaming boards :rol:... I've already explained to you that the views of some people on gaming boards does not represent the mainstream at all.... except, of course, the mainstream opinion of internet people who go to the interwebs to bitch and moan on gaming boards. The vast majority of critics have praised the game over and over.

I know more of my friends don't like it than those who do.

Everyone says the story and the world are awesome but everything else sux.

They complain that it isn't a game, but rather an interactive movie.

They also don't like GTA 5 for the same reasons.

I hope you get banned again. You've been trolling about this non-stop and it's annoying as hell. Some people don't like a game that is slow on purpose, film at 11.

The only really meaningful part of that article is this: "I’m a player who struggles with games designed around 'finding your own fun,' so to speak."

Oh, OK. Sounds like a good fit for a sandbox game where exploration is the main activity.

And by the way, most of his criticisms here apply to every Rockstar release, not just RDR2. Loads of content and systems that don't contribute to the main plot and with which little engagement is actually required to progress? Yeah, that's every single game of theirs since GTA 3, genius. I consider most of them classics and so this "criticism" just seems like a guy telling me the game is not for him. OK. Doesn't change my opinion of it even slightly.

Agreed, writer is stating that he isn't creative enough to have fun in open world games. That's fine, go back to your battle royale games sir.

I think the point that woggleman is trying to make is that the game will naturally have a smaller appeal than the GTA series.

Which is something I think we all agree on.

His issue is that he will not let it go and agree to disagree with others.

I am not convinced.  If he had posted about this once, twice, or ten times, then OK, I could believe that he is a fan of the game who is also bothered by, or wants to make a point about, the game being divisive to the larger public.  All well and good.  But he has posted about this many times in many threads.  Every time I see a thread like this, I know he's going to be masturbating all over it: "My friend says this," "Everyone on forum X says that," "But here's a reviewer that says..."  It is endless, and it smells like trolling to me.  Either that or he is OCD beyond belief and just can't help obsessing over the fact that not everyone loves the game.

Either way, I know what every one of his posts is going to say and it's tiresome.
