It’s just difficult to go back and play GTA after having been fully immersed in RDR2 for the last year. Like you said the game is showing it’s age now.

That is the main difference for me between the two for me. I feel like a part of the world in RDR2. I just don’t get that feeling in GTA.

I still play GTAO, but not much. I play maybe an hour each week (invite only), when the tunables have been updated, check on the dripfed cars and call it a week again.

Graphics don't bother me too much in games, especially not older games. I even play Skyrim from time to time and that game doesn't even come near either GTAO or RDO.

I can fairly easy be totally immersed in many game worlds, as long as what happens makes sense in that specific game world.

Graphics aren't usually an issue for me but being that GTAO and RDO are kinda two sides of the same coin, the differences visually do stand out to me a lot even if I'm not looking for them.

Things like draw distance, the range at which resolution drops, NPC and vehicle spawn distances, the lack of much weather etc etc. Hell even just how "clean" everything in the game feels in comparison due to the lower texture/polygon levels in GTAO really stand out to me now, I still remember being quite impressed with the PS4 version compared to it on PS3.

All the more reason I'm really looking forward to GTA6 to see how that looks and feels.

I logged into GTAO for the first time in a while and I agree. While the game is bright and vibrant the level of detail is nothing compared to RDO, it feels like I am playing a 360/PS3 game (which technically we are)

I remember being very much impressed with the PS3 version at launch. Blew me away. Then, indeed, the PS4 version impressed me quite a lot again. And that was about it when it comes to being impressed by GTAO :D

All I do there now is check dripfed cars and drive around town for an hour tops, before getting bored with it again.

Just got the fabled "angry animal headbutts you from nowhere" event. I was around Horseshoe Overlook and I had a Treasure Hunter willing to sell me a map on the edge of a cliff, for some reason the animal sorta slid off me and yeeted the TH right off the cliff. I think the animal spawned behind me and did not have enough momentum to trigger the animation but had enough to hit the TH.

Either way I got a Map and a three star Deer.

Funny how a deer dropping off of a 30 meter high cliff still lets you get a perfect carcass, but a perfect headshot with a repeater ruins it, somehow.

Funny how dragging a Deer from the Annesburg to Tumbelweed gives you a three star but using a knife to finish off a wounded animal wrecks the pelt.

I agree 100%.

If Sony, made Champions of Norrath available, I would play that on the regular.

Using special ammo will damage a pelt, no matter if you land a clean kill. I have headshotted deer with a rifle using Regular ammo and gotten a clean kill.

Use a bow, 3 star every time.

Using HV ammo in a Carcano from a good distance doesn't ruin the pelt.

Yeah. Only express ammo or the wrong type of weapon will definetly mess it up. I can almost never seem to kill coyotes with repeaters so I use HV rifle ammo. 3* all day

Coyotes don't die from a gun shot with a Bolt Action Rifle at medium distance, whereas whitetails are oneshot. I think they use better ability cards.

They have that adamantium enhanced skull structure lol.

Jokes aside, I've tried using Focus fire III and Landon's patience III, sometimes with Evans it has killed them but I am not sure if these even work as intended on animals. Maybe just luck.

Also why do we still not have improved arrows (for killing bears moose elk ect.) ?

F*ck this sh*t R* ! I'd love to use the bow for all my hunting, it's more humane. Poison arrows do the trick but it's still annoying.

Ammo type does not effect this, only weapon type, I regularly hunt without caring about what ammo I have loaded and never have issue as long as it's the correct weapon. My rifles for example always have express rounds equipped, never an issue.

Edit: I should clarify that obviously I'm only referring to the normal types of special ammo, obviously things like explosive and incendiary rounds will not work.

The headshot thing is inconsistent af, i've been trying to figure out the best way to get them perfect carcasses & pelts, so i go out of my way to headshot something with a bow from close range and like 8 out of 10 times the animal still lowers in value, but then 2 out of 10 times it suddenly works as i expect? make up your mind R*, either always lower the value or never, but dont make it a random draw, i mean if the arrow was to go trough the head into the animal again or its to low in the neck or something then sure, lower the value, but i always go for a nice arrow straight trough the side of their heads, as clean as can be? Stop ruining my kills you stupid game.

Oh and why cant we upgrade the bow? and no i dont mean add a scope, but make me able to change string tension and wood type or whatever to make it shoot faster/further, draw quicker etc

Still so easy to get sucked into the last RDR also. Granted GTA:O is getting on, but most of R*'s worlds are so bloody well made that like others, I can't wait to see their next one too as regardless of the other issues their online games can have, the map will be so absorbing, lol.

Holy crap!

Last night I was searching for a 4 person gang during a stranger assasination mission and a cougar came out of nowhere and mauled me.

Then I respawn and look on the map to see how far away it put me and wonder "what's that red dot?"

The same cougar mauls me again!

Next spawn, same deal: 'that red dot must be the cougar". The bastard races down the road and mangles me once again!

The next time he is too far away and 'round a bend, so I stalk that bugger and kill him, but it takes at least 6-8 shots from dual revolvers to put him down 'cause the carbine repeater doesn't do enough to stop him in one shot, and that one shot is all I get before he leaps onto me. That ruins the pelt of course, but it's a victory of sorts anyway.

Nothing like starting out fresh in a completely new game to make you feel like a total noob.

Game: "you're low level"  :miranda:

"you're low level" :miranda:

"you're STILL low level" :miranda:

And the amount of times I try to get my horse to turn off the road to avoid an oncoming player, yet the horse is stubborn and doesn't want to leave the path to the waypoint I've set and ends up in a collision because the other player turns to the same side. You just don't have enough reaction speed/maneuverability to get out of the way in time, especially if I'm moving slowly or from a dead stop and the other guy is going at a medium clip.

Just haven't found a rythm yet.

Source camp supplies, hunting, mission, sale mission, go to the butcher, go to the fence, try to find collectables....I just feel like I'm lagging way behind everything.

Still a lot of fun so far, though.

Same here. SInce you played GTAV on PS3 do you ever look at your old screen shots or social club photos? Looking at mine now, ugh. The jump to the PS4 version was such a nice shot in the arm. But yeah, I used to play GTAV religiously from day one. Now I'm lucky if I log in one a month. Been sitting at 1015 for almost a year now lol.

You need to check which weapon to use on which animal.  If you use the wrong weapon you will not get a perfect kill.  The only one ruining your kills is you.

Maybe re-read my post, its a bug/issue, i can headshot a perfect animal with a bolt action rifle and get perfect pelt, and then the next perfect animal, again a clean headshot, will be a poor pelt.

So yea, dont tell me how to play the game thanks, im aware of the special ammo and arrows for hunting (cant even get those yet because microtransaction trap) thats simply not what im talking about, im talking about how you get inconsistent results

Thats ok, sorry if i pushed back a bit hard, i just dont like it when people assume im dumb because they havent experienced something themselves, trust me, i've looked at a bunch of wiki's etc, and nobody has any clear awnser as to why animals degrade from clean kills, and sometimes not ^^

Maybe you should back up and read your own post, I believe you said bow, not bolt action.  Also there is no inconsistency, if you hit a 3* animal in the head with the right weapon you will get a perfect kill, I've been doing it for a year, it's not hard. We had exactly the same complaint when the console version launched last year and it was always caused by people either using the wrong weapon for the animal or not being as good a shot as they thought they were.

If you're struggling, use the lasso and knife for a clean kill.

It works with anything, i've done some testing and collected perfect pelts from animals i gave a shotgun blast to the face, there IS some sort of random dice roll going on for sure. I still hunt most things with a bow headshot (because that seems 'right') but larger animals just shrug that off so they get the lasso and knife, but bolt action round to the temple seems to work (read: doesnt ruin the quality) half the time too.

You can with slugs. Again only if you hit the head it will be 3*

Here's a question: I get the general concept, but not clear on the actual mechanics of this.

Do you switch t the knife automatically when you get the animal close, or do you have to manually switch, or is there a control prompt like the 'execute' action?
