Figured we could use a place for an ongoing catch-all general conversation about stuff that maybe doesn't warrant a thread of its own. Have a seat by the fire, roast a hunk of meat and join in, or just lurk at the edges with Cripps! :D

How's everybody feeling about their overall progress so far? I know some folks are already 200+ through various highly efficient methods, where do you stand?

I had nearly two weeks off work over Christmas and New Years and I was able to get a few marathon sessions in between family gatherings. I'm currently sitting at lvl 41, ~$2100 and 55g which is just peachy as far as I'm concerned. The levelling curve feels a lot smoother than I remember from GTAO, at least so far. Maybe the incline becomes sharply steeper nearer 100?

Im lvl 38 i think and i dunno why...should have stopped earlier. Dont even have much money because i bought a lot of guns i never use. Havent been to other stores for ages. Hopefully the next patch will be good,i wanna have fun in rd again.

Im a bit ashamed of my relatively high rank already and can only imagine how boring the past weeks were for lvl 200. I can understand grind if theres something that keeps you going,in rd its just the number next to your name,i still use my starter horse,i still use the boltaction rifle,i still have the same clothes i had with lvl 25. And thats basically all there is.

Level 55. About $400 and 15 gold bars. I'm starting to get to the point of wanting more content. I'd really like to do a private session and hit all the gang hideouts on my own, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards right now. I've been focused on getting the online trophies, but since I''ve gotten them, I've been hunting/fishing to make money and just upgrade camp and weapons. Think I'm going to start upgrading ability cards now.

Level 37, $1700, 14 Gold bars.

I hate Auto Aim lobbies. I'm ready to give up on the game if free aim servers don't come soon.

I'm barely level 22. Got like 1600 bucks and 37 gold bars. The ranking up is quite tedious with so few play options. I refuse to PvP, including FR Stranger missions, with this AA nonsense and there really needs to be more story/co-op missions.

I hunted and fished myself to damn near insanity in SP so, it gets old even quicker when I try Online. Not to mention the barely 10% of the total number of creatures available at any given time. Having to ride back and forth over an area just to get some sh*t to finally spawn, is an absolute chore.

Really hoping for some useful content. Like, soon.

This is me!! Just hit 38 yesterday and i dunno why either.  The lack of content is really amazing to me.  I thought they would come guns blazing out of the gate but not so much.    The only time im playing this game is when im tired of other games and just need to relax, then ill get on and do a few stranger missions and be logged out within an hour or so.  Exploration is a total waste of time as they have removed every interesting aspect of the world for the online version.   There is simply nothing to do in the open world and its depressing.

Been about 3-4 weeks since I last played online. It really is empty and no incentive for me to play, but with a DLC due soon, I'm starting to get a little excited in anticipation of fully embracing this.

Keeping it all in check though. My disappointment was huge with what we got and no lobby choice before gold went on sale. Won't be doing that again, lol. I'll just AFK to rank 50 for the plat and be on my way if they ignore much of the feedback further.

New year, new hope. We'll see. But I really want this game to offer so much more fulfilling gaming.

Level 57 and about $1200. I've been concentrating on leveling out ability cards. I think while the game is relatively empty and nothing else worth spending money on ability cards are a good investment. I'm trying to use this 'lull' to get all items unlocked and have my character as strong as possible. You can be sure when content drops the player base will increase significantly and it's nice to be prepared. If I've invested in the necessary now, I'll hopefully be able to spend money on new content when it comes. For my cards i like to have a decent choice, especially dead eye. When hunting (or general freeroam activity) I always have "Never without one" and "Slippery bastard". So I know when the hat pops off I activate the bastard and then either use the time to run (if I have a full horse) or get in position to end the would be griefer. Then I have my PvP cards for showdown series, Focus Fire, Slow and Steady etc. And even different cards for different matches. Never without one is useless in Most Wanted as when the hat is gone it doesn't come back, which I think is a bug, so I switch it to something more useful.

I have my gun collection in order, I have a favourite weapon for all occasions. I have three outfits I'm happy with so I'm all set for clothes. The only other expenses I have are obviously ammo but gun oil and horse reviver. I know I can pick up gun oil out and about but I'd rather spend the time hunting birds and baby gators.

Horse reviver is absolutely critical for me and I'll never have no fewer than two on me at any one time. Hunting in New Austin a few days ago and I had a nice collection of buck, deer, ram and other pelts on the horse. Tripped on a rock and killed him. No reviver. Lost all pelts. Lesson learned lol

Oh, for all you hunters gathered round the fire here, I spent my free gold on the poisonous arrows pamphlet. Totally worth it in my view. Single shot kills to big game without damaging pelts.

Content is definitely starting to feel sparse for me as well... I think the main reason burnout hasn't quite set in yet is that I spent the majority of my SP time focusing on narrative content. (ie. the main plot and stranger side quests) I was so engaged with the plot that I never did a ton of exploration or more free-form side content like hunting, fishing, collecting etc. It wasn't quite a deliberate omission but I did know in the back of my mind I would get around to seeing and exploring things Online eventually, so I didn't feel like I was missing out. Getting to know areas I only passed through in SP, really getting the hang of hunting and fishing well, and just generally taking a lot more scenic routes and learning the map have mostly kept me satisfied through this drought. The thinness is really starting to show even for me now though, and I'm just praying we don't see a GTAO-level gap between launch and the first truly substantial expansions/additions to what's offered in RDO.

I'm level 35 and hunt and hunt and hunt and do the occasional story mission. Getting ansy for new content that's not PvP.

I've been using my money to buy and upgrade ability cards - have 4 at tier II. Now for tier III!

I'm at level 25 and play for about 30 minutes a day. During that time I ride around on my horse for a few minutes, fist fight some NPC's in the street, then complete a mission and log off. I don't even feel like getting some people together and doing something because there is nothing to do!

Hit level 78 last night. $5,985 in cash.

I find the PvP modes unbalanced and being in Australia, lag is annoying af. I can only manage an hour every so often before I get bored with it. I'm basically done replaying missions, I can solo 'where your morals lead you' but level 6-10 players keep totally screwing it up, yolo'ing and dying, restarting and dropping my payout from $25/400xp to $8/100xp for 20 mins...

I've been hunting like heckin crazy and I really only keep playing the game and hunting to stockpile cash for future content which I hope is awesome, but probably won't be :(

How can there still be birds flying in the skies? I must've killed them all by now...

Level 250+ here. Can't say I'm too burnt out yet. I've still got some things to buy. Haven't collected everything yet. I got nothing to spend gold on now. I'm sitting on 80.00+ and it's increasing every day. I might come around to tints and engravings, but don't know yet. I've still gotta buy all the weapons. I've already bought nearly all the damage, weapons pamphlets. The remaining ones are just tonics and horses pamphlets. Still got horses to collect. There's no more clothing that I want to buy. I'm kinda close to unlocking pretty much everything. Already got all cards maximum. I might work on buckles, don't know yet. But wanna get 1,000 at some point. PvP is still fun so that keeps me going. I got to use express explosives today against a slow and steady level 200+. It was kinda fun, lol. A match with two level 200+ using express explosives on a third level 200+.

Hit level 90 yesterday and have a whooping 40 dollars lol.

Bought the express explosive pamphlet last night thats why im pretty broke. But theres nothing else to spend cash on atm, got the cards i play to level III so im gonna stockpile money again anyway. It keeps me going as long as theres stuff to unlock, not sure what happens when i hit lvl100. Propably slowing down a bit unless the whole posse is online and yelling at me.

I hope later on they have stuff that will limit the use of stuff like explosive ammo in PVP. I can't even touch the PVP as of right now since it's completely overrun by autoaimers. Congrats on hitting 90 though.

Just hit rank 42, a lil over $4000 and around 33 gold. I usually do the hunting thing along with herb picking. Would really like the solo session or invite only option so I could do gang hideouts without pausing every few secs to check the map to make sure I’m not about to run up on by other players. Not really into the Showdown Series, and I’m completely over the missions since finding out performance dictates the payout and XP earned. With that said I’m totally content with RDO right now.

I think i was around 20 in terms of rank, I kinda got bored considering there's not much content in online and i cba grinding the PvP modes to level up due to AA. Freemode fighting isn't fun too considering how anyone can just lock on and one shot you and vice versa unless you use that specific dead eye ability. Just was expecting a lot more from RDOnline lol, i was expecting atleast more content than GTA Online at release or at the very least, unique repeatable gang hideouts (current gang hideouts are literally gang attacks from GTA 5 with a small useless "Kill or spare bandit leader" objective.)

It's the best game ever. I was in a GTA crew that became extremely cancerous over the last few years but some ex-members and I play this now #ChillyWillyGang and it has renewed my faith in online gaming groups.

I'm Rank 61 (99.9% from hunting and teaching trolls some lessons) with a few thousand made and spent. Figured out pretty quick how to make $100-$150 per 45 min hunting trip so cash isn't hard to come by. Impressed with the playerbase for the most part - most trolls I school so even the rare (in my case) *sshole isn't much of a headache. REALLY excited to see what they add in the months or years to come.

I am level 57, have 42 gold and $210. I unlocked and upgraded the ability cards I want to tier three.

I am getting tired of the constant griefing. And the camping of griefers near the butcher. I play a video game to have a good time. Not to look constantly over my shoulder.

The stranger missions are clearly designed to invite griefers. It's obvious the missions put you in a disadvantage. Same as gta, in a slow as hell delivery truck or horse card. And you have to deliver it in griefers central.  I kicked the sh*t out of some griefers, but it doesn't change anything.

And then there's the constant connection issues, loads of bugs, the useless camp, the OP varmint rifle, the busted economy, the loss of horse cargo. As soon as Rockstar opened the gold shop, it is no longer a beta.

I am thinking of taking a break, until Rockstar fixes a lot of issues.

I'm only rank 18 in Red Dead Online ($22 Gold with $500 in cash) and I have no desire to rank up as high as I can as quick as I can, or grind hunting spots, or play the same missions over and over, or get into yet another freeroam gun battle. It's just not as appealing as people make it out to be. Alot of my concerns are brushed aside though because I'm not as highly ranked as others, don't have a 12-step hunting plan and haven't purchased every gun, ability and pamphlet under the sun. If I just grinded it or toughed it out like everyone else things would all work out.

I enjoy the realism of hunting and skinning. I like the detail different ammo types and weapon choices (like bows and arrows or a lasso and knife instead of a gun) provides. I like the varying degrees of quality a carcass/pelt can be in as it relates to a profitable sale. But I dont like the monotony and repetition of hunting/fishing as a form of income. Spending an hour or two or more, every time I log on, is not what I call fun. All the time tracking and chasing, going from one end of the map to the next running to the butcher only to restart the process again and again. It's too time consuming and I like to move on at some point.

Try to break this theme up by doing a mission and it's the same tired missions we've already done multiple times. We need more content/activities.

Then there's the PvP aspect. In GTA Online (Rockstar's most recent online multiplayer game) I can pick and choose whether I want to engage in PvP or carry on peacefully at will thanks to passive mode. Or I can go to my own separate lobby. Or a lobby with just crew and just friends. There's none of that in Red Dead Online. It's always a public lobby and you're always at risk of a PvP skirmish.

I explained this to my cousin yesterday and he said "well, at least you can parlay" and I'm thinking yeah, but it's never my choice whether or not I engage in a fight. i can't abstain and decline an engagement like I could with passive mode or a separate lobby. I have to get killed just for the privilege to parlay. And not just once, mind you, because that's not enough deaths to abandon the fight. Not just twice because that's also not worthy of saying no to a fight. But three times, consecutively, until I can abstain...and even then that's just from one single person and it's only for a temporary time at that. If they're in a posse or if someone else comes along then the cycle continues. Such fun. Such freedom.

Changing sessions immediately would have me abandon my hunting wares on my horse.  I could drop what I'm doing and sprint to the butcher if need be, but if they get me first all my work was a waste. And even if all that worked out and I made it to a new session after reaching the butler...I'd still be faced with the same prospects all over again!

"Just get good or get rekt" would be the next retort (if only you were a better shot in PvP maybe it wouldn't be so bad) but again, that's forcing me to play the game how I'm not trying to play it. I don't want to get into a PvP battle with you just to avoid a PvP battle with you. If I wanted to fight I'd join a Showdown Series. Those are actually pretty fun. The older weapons, mixed with the unique maps and interesting challenges and spawns available leads to fun gameplay. It was actually a pleasant surprise for me. But in freeroam, when I'm just trying to chill and take it easy with my character, the random ambushes get annoying and seem out of place. I'm not against player vs player gameplay as a concept but there's a time and a place for that.

Then there's the grinding aspect when it comes to attaining funds for various guns and abilities  and weapons pamplets, etc. I appreciate progression but it feels like such a rat race.

Such a PvP-heavy focus, whether offense or defense, is not what I look for in this game. I'd rather play the Battle Royale mode in Black Ops IV or a massive capture the flag style arena in Battlefield. Or maybe get on Rainbow Six for a change instead. Even GTA Online, as problematic as it is, see far more appealing for PvP (to me) if only due to it's modern, urban settiting. But the random trolling in Red Dead is not what I launched the app for.

I get the idea of westerns and duels and bounties, but story mode does that alot better. I get the idea of exploring the map as a pastime too, but story mode's stranger jobs, interactions with NPCs and the white dots that pop up with tasks and quests are all far more appealing than the scarcity of Online.

Other games do PvP better and the story mode of Red Dead has the narrative-based/open-world feel down so well that the Online version just feels underdeveloped. Missions and activities could be the defining factor but they're just lacking in that regard also.

Multiplayer as a concept - playing with friends - works for Red Dead on paper but there's no "join friends" option in game and there's no in-game messaging system other than public voice chat. The lack of a text chat is also problematic with randoms and passer-bys. Can't really signal intentions to them as efficiently as I'd prefer. The permanent posse system works for some, but it'd be nice to join friends and still be in separate organizations without having to manually join up through PSN.  Other games just do this whole process better.

So long story short, I play Red Dead at my own pace. I can't change the game for what it is so I change how I play it and what I focus on. I'll get on for a half hour to an hour and then close the app until the next spontaneous urge for RDO takes hold. I can only take so much PvP strife and do so much hunting and played-out missions before it's time to switch it up. It's a decent game with a spectacular single-player, but nothing about the online as it stands now (still very new and barebones) makes me want to stay long-term or keep going back day after day.  I like the ability to have my own character and I like playing with friends. I can't do that in story mode. But I like to have fun too and that's easier found playing something else.

If anything I'd rather go back to story mode and replay it again solo than grind it out and battle it out online.

Had two experiences with randoms that were at completely opposite ends of the spectrum last night.

The first wasn't even griefing, just a pain in the a*se. They followed me from the moment they saw me. Didn't try to kill me, they never pointed a gun in my direction. They just followed. Didn't reply to a PSN message I sent asking if they wanted to posse up, ignored my in game invite. They could well have been harmless, but I wasn't going to waste my time finding out so I changed session.

The other was this level 50 something, didn't recognize their name from here, but if you are a member and read this, thanks. But they randomly came up to me, got off their horse, removed the pike from it and placed it next to me before waving and riding off. Again, if by a stroke of fate you read this, add me on PSN, I'll be more than happy to return the favour.

Me either.

There's literally 3 or 4 things that are currently available that I want to buy. If I used xp exploits or farmed cops to reach the required ranks I'd probably just stop playing.

I'm going slow and steady, only playing in a way I enjoy and only for as long as it is still enjoyable at any one time.

Just hit rank 97 today. Some things that keep me going are personal goals that I've set for myself. Some of these include reaching rank 100, So I know I've unlocked everything.

Raising my "K/D" (I know it's not truly a feature here, but I like watching my kill/death ratio improve) which is currently a 4.67, and my goal being a 5.

Another was getting 10K kills (got that today!) And I also like the belt buckles you get for completing challenges. Got the 1,000 headshots with a revolver last week and I think it looks really awesome. Next one up is the pistol only headshot challenge.

Other than that, idk. I'd really like it if they could add deathmatches you can host privately, like in GTA. Would love to play a game using revolvers only and no dead eye. Afterall, playing deathmatches alone is what kept me in GTA for years lol...

I'd also love new clothes, and the ability to change my dang character's appearance! That's all, really.

Rank 65 with around $1k and 65g.

Had around $2500 but then spent it on ability cards. Figured there was nothing else to spend the money on and if I didn’t upgrade now it was a waste of xp.

I dont find any if it a grind. I’m usually on with 2 mates and we just do strangers missions.

There’s plenty variety and in between we do hunting going from marker to marker or during the mission to let the clock run.

Not really into the showdown stufff and we’ve done enough story missions.

Also have some great random shootouts with rival posses.

All in all im loving it. It’s exactly what I was hoping for and am really looking forward to when the full game drops.

I totally understand that new content is on the way so don’t feel the need to moan on every thread about the lack of options!

Anyone else been using the Posse Up option, or leading their own public posses? I've been using it more and more and I'm really starting to like it, been building up a bit of loose a friends network like I have in GTAO and even started up a Persistent Posse to try and keep better track of some of the people I've met. Kind of annoyed with how limited PP's functionality is though. When I first heard about it I assumed it was going to be RDO's equivalent of GTAO's crews but as it stands now you're basically paying $200 bucks for a customized name, increased posse size and extremely truncated secondary friends list...

And now that I think about it, when/if we get Free Aim sessions I'll probably need to start at square one with all this anyway; I assume most of the people I've met would stick with AA :(
