It's only a matter of time before a few "good" tutorials get known and at least half the population look like they fell off the Instagram model delivery wagon...

Who wants their female player character to be an uggo? I guarantee the majority of players playing female characters are males in reality. And they play a girl because they’re nicer to look at. The girls that play as girls want their avatar to look like them but more attractive. Men like attractive women, women like attractive women. Even gay men at least recognise the attractiveness of women even when they’re not attracted to them. I’d rather see a bunch of outlaw supermodels than a bunch of ugly zombified crackwhores. But that’s just me.

on another note: I’m on the fence about the new animations. On the one hand, I like how there’s not a half second delay for every movement input anymore and I especially like the faster cocking and firing for guns. On the other hand, I hate the loss of speed control whilst walking [we can only inch along or powerwalk now, we used to have 3-4 different walk speeds depending on how far you push the stick]. And I hate the new faster reloads. The old ones, although unrealistically fast, at least still looked somewhat plausible. These new ones are so fast that it looks comical. The LeMat really highlights this: the reload animation is so fast now that you cannot see your character’s hands due to the motion blur. I laughed when I first saw it, and now I’m sad that we’re stuck with it.

I didn't see anything in the notes about a train in New Austin, is it full time or just in the opening mission of the trader business?

It's there full time, I rode it for a bit while visiting towns, saloons and post offices for the new award.

I just bought the Reinforced Lasso from the catalogue but it didn't show up at the post office or the camp lockbox. Do I just have it in my inventory now?

New animations and controls are overkill, I hate how quickly we draw our guns, I hate how our character turn catalogue pages so fast that it looks like they're trying to rip pages out, I hate how overly sensitive the walking controls are now, etc. If they were going to pull this s*** at least give us the option to go back to the old animations and controls, I do not like these changes.

I discovered it yesterday when fighting another player who attacked me while I was in defensive. Ran up to him to point blank him with my sawed off when to my surprise my character knocked him on his ass, to which I quickly blew his head off while he was down there.

So I just looted a gold tooth off of a fully conscious individual, which has some... troubling implications... cracking open a corpse's jaw to prise out fillings with a goddam bowie knife is already pretty hardcore, but doing it on someone awake and kicking? Yikes... Maybe they opted to switch to these new simplified loot animations to avoid having to depict this scenario :)

Now that we finally have a place to sit around the camp fire, it would be awesome to get a group together to tell stories around the fire or even sing some folk songs(I'm not singing!!)

As much as I love the new DLC, it didn't surprise me R* put the most emphasis on the PvP focused content. Was happily enjoying checking out the perks, bonuses and freebies we got from Twitch/Prime membership.

Was pleasantly surprised to find R* kept their word to us GTAO players who did that mind numbing 52 card deck collectible with the Casino DLC worthwhile. Us GTAO players who did the grind got the Collector's bag for free as the promo bonus. This free discount on the bag is basically a free "Collector's license" to immediately get started on the Collector/Explorer career track. Because you're going to have to grind the gold to begin this career otherwise. So made the grind in GTAO worth it because it really saved up on a good number of gold bars to get started.

The Trader career track is finally the missing link that's inspired me to return to playing the game in my sandbox PvE style. Adds the missing monetary reward for all the work I did hunting and fishing up in the Grizzlies. Especially now we have the crafting component with Cripps. It was also decent of R* the way they accommodated PS Plus players and not leaving them out in the cold this time around. PS players got some seriously decent free content with the Trader career at their campsite. They're the only ones to get the dog pet companion at the campsite for free.

As for the Bounty Hunter career track, had a great time discovering the new PvE game play features, bonuses & perks we got from Twitch/Prime membership. After making my bones as a Lvl 1 Bounty Hunter, collected my bounty pay check and went to the nearest tailor to checkout the threads Wheeler & Rawson were peddling. Then headed out to the nearest stable to checkout the new Bounty Carriage.

Was happily  inspecting my two free Breton mounts, when the R* bitch slap happy hammer finally decided to do a massive reality check on whatever attack of conscience R* had been having up to that point.  Because it seems R* finally woke up and decided to generously make all that horsepower for free. So that they could generously help me liberate my bank account of the necessary $300 garage space for the horses upkeep. 🙃

But apart from that irritating eye gouging moment, I'm really loving this new update. Unlike GTAO, R* seems to have avoided the superficial drip feed death spiral by offering the majority of this DLC upfront. So unlike GTAO updates, this new content will keep the RDRO fan base reasonably occupied for a good while

Has anyone noticed that the player base has become... Friendly and not hostile like GTAO? I've rode past at least 20+ people recently when supplying or even selling, a few was definitely a trader but none of them attacked.

Had two people come up to me when my camp flag was down, could have easily killed me; but they just waved and went to go pet my dog.

Maybe it's just a placebo, but ever since the update, they seem to have gotten friendlier.

no it's not a coincidence. For several reasons IMO

  1. The game is still new. And with addition of the new DLC content, players are still enjoying said content trying to be first to level up (and get a competitive advantage if PvP players) and/or be first to earn achievements etc. if PvE/RP/solo player minded type.
  2. RDR player base is a small subset of the GTAO one.
  3. RDR player base tends to be more socially collaborative in nature. Especially given the scale of the game map design which has activities distributed all over it. Don't get me wrong, PvP still rules RDRO game play. But the vast, open space map design and inefficient fast travel system (which wasn't designed to make access to remote corners of the map easy) reduces player contact and PvP to a significantly lesser extent.
  4. RDR tends to attract more chronologically and/or emotionally mature players. A lot of RDRO players are from non GTA franchises with a significant PvE focus (like TES, Fallout, etc etc) like myself.
  5. RDRO tends to attract lone wolf/PvE/RP minded players like myself. Particularly given it's vast open spaces to numerous opportunities to do sandbox and mission driven activities in. And especially after this new DLC release of bounty hunter/trader/explorer & collector tracks.
  6. RDR is laid back nature unlike the Saints Row crazy that GTAO has devolved to. It's VERY slow paced because it uses real horse power v. mechanized supers on land, sea and air. LOL. That being said, the fact
  7. RDR lacks supers aka mechanical horse power which the more Forza/Fast & Furious GTAO player base live for. So the amount of bragging rights at meet ups and racing to make money is signficantly less on RDRO servers v GTAO ones. Because let's face it, it's not as interesting showing off your new bling horse saddle than a max modded LSC super 😄
  8. RDRO lacks the instant gratification of murder hobo WMD/futuristic flying broomstick weapons which griefers have such a hard on for. And on which passive poppers typically rely on to quickly travel (i.e in less than 1-2 mins) from one end of the map to the other to keep their K/D "relevant".
  9. For the reason in #8, it's a lot more challenging/harder to encounter, stalk, harrass and/or kill other players in RDRO. Especially if a player insists on ganking everything in sight in their vicinity. The more a PvP/griefer player behaves like that, the more they make themselves visible to other more peaceful players on the map (at greater distances). And the less they'll be able to detect other more peaceful/less aggressive players on the map on their radar. Which works great for bounty hunting purposes lol.
  10. Unlike GTAO, it seems the RDRO devs finally figured out a way to minimize toxic griefing behavior. It's extremely more challenging to find players to kill/grief in RDR even though player dots show up on the map. The catch with RDRO is player dots only show up when players are in close proximity to each other (unless in a posse). You can't see other players on the map unless they're in a town vicinity or so of you.  Which restricts the murder hobos to places where randoms are likely to congregate. Like to major cities like Blackwater, St Dennis, popular towns like Valentine etc etc.

Consequently, the significantly slower pace of RDRO tends to turn off most GTAO players. Many of whom-- from the day of their birth--were destined to be PvP/competitively minded/murder hobo griefer [email protected] in their gaming mind set.  😂   All thanks to their extremely impatient, FPS gamer genes, which drives them to seek out the more fast paced, action type of games.

But IMO the biggest reason why the player base seems so much more civilized lately: the complete absence of modders in the game. If modders exist, then you'd better believe the #yoloswag billonaire cheater cowboys and snake oil money glitcher charlatans are not far behind. Once those players show up, a complete destruction of the game economy will follow. Because as GTAO has proved, these players will buy out all the DLC and/or do all the content in the game. They're the ones who will find cheater ways to accomplish all the achievements/missions. And share the wealth by posting them social media/Youtube while they're at it. And when that happens, boredom will set in, just like GTAO. And once players get bored, the griefing level will fly out the stratosphere.

But it still remains to be seen if RDR will go to PC. If it does, then it's quite likely we'll get a repeat of FiveM part Deux once the online part of the game goes live. Just like it did on the PC for GTAO. /end wall of text>

I agree. The two days I've been able to play the update I was not killed by any players the entire time I played. I was even doing a trader delivery in Armadillo where I had to clear out enemies and a nearby player just stood on the saloon balcony and watched me and wave when I was done. I've ran into plenty of players since the update but no one I have encountered has been hostile

Any explanation as to why some players give their horses and dogs some blatantly racist, supremacist, and/or misogynistic names?

I think the best way to put this is that, some people do not adhere to rule 1.

Edit: Ok, so I've been around a while and not kept up on the current rule 1, the one I was thinking of is also known as Wheaton's law.

Spoke too soon. Had a useless cunt come over and shoot me when I was going back to my camp. Lost my two 3* deer. And he could kill me with 1 bullet when I'm in defensive. Tremendous!
