Canned Salmon

Am I doing something wrong?

I have a satchel loaded to the hilt full of useless crap, or at least useless to me.

Canned salmon, crackers, beans, cigarettes, opened rum etc. What's the point, one improves one core while slightly damaging another.

When hunting, I gather Mint, Oregano and Thyme. I mix them with big game meat (3 from 1 gator) and I find it easy to keep my Health, Stamina and Dead eye cores full. I pick up carrots for the mutt as well to keep him going on all cores.

So, my question is, does anyone bother with the rest? Does anyone lift cocaine gum and think happy days?

I'd far rather be able to sell these items on to the fence. Or is there added properties I just don't know about?

I prefer to sell all but the worst meat and sell most of my herbs to the doctor, so I use the cheap Stringy/Gamey meat that I do cook to give all 3 cores a boost and then make up the difference with looted provisions.

I don't think I've ever used a stamina tonic but the ones for heath and especially dead eye come in handy often enough.

I like to wander in to other peoples camp while they are there and drink their beers and smoke my cigarettes till I pass out.

I pick stuff up and use it all the time, it's not game changing but you can hold 20 of most of those items and they can come in handy when in a pinch, just make sure you remember to use them or they will clutter your satchel. I always have cooked meat but I'll usually keep Canned food, Alcohol, etc for when I'm in the middle of a showdown or mission since I can quickly select that stuff while in my Items Wheel.

I mainly depend on and always stay stocked with Venison and all 4 kinds of Big Game Meat(since all four only take up one slot). Once I'm fully stocked on Cooked Venison/Big Game meat, I sell the rest of the raw meat since I'll be hunting again soon at some point..

I've never bought Tonics, I always find them. And chewing tobacco, cocaine gum, etc can be useful only depending on the situation.

Yeah I do the same as the OP.

Sell most stuff to try and keep the wheel clean and it would be great to sell all the crap back to a general store.

Also got got so many herbs that I don’t know what to with so they get sold too.

The amount of cooked meat I’ve got could feed St Denis for a year. Kinda feels like unlimited snacks from GTA.

Gotta keep chuggin & puffin to have those good cores! otherwise my aim is unsteady as hell. Munchies for health core. Make my own tonics & seasoned meat. I find plenty of tonics & foodstuffs too. Cook em up at campfires, never go to my camp it's too far away.

I only eat meat, hope we can sell the other stuff someday and customize the wheel. The only thing i use are carrots for the horse.

I would use canned stuff if it would be as easy/cheap to get as meat because you can use it a bit faster, but if it is like it is i prefer to not change my style of regaining health etc. Maybe once my satchels are full of it. I rarely eat anyway.

I've only been using carrots as well, but they at 50 cents and hay, which seems to replenish the horse the same amount is only 25 cents. I'm guessing that's because the carrots can also be eaten by the player. Either way, I think I'm just gonna feed my horse hay and wild carrots from now on to save some money in the long run.

I craft minty and creeping thyme big game meat. A golden core is not affected by smoking or drinking Kentucky bourbon. All other meat is sold. Just shoot a few gators. Gators are parked in rows along the Bayou. The quality is not important.

And I craft a lot of snake oil. Easy to make from Indian Tobacco. Just Google the location. My build is a dead eye power house. Even with the all-seeing eye I need to refuel a lot.

Canned stuff is a by product of homestead raiding. Gun oil can be found in cabins. If you have to buy gun oil, it drains your wallet really quick. Again, Google it.

Wild carrots keep my horse running. Some cheap hay if my horse is revived. Wild carrots can be found everywhere.

I only use wild carrots, theyre everywhere and if i pick up 10 thats enough for hours.

But good to know with the hay.

I plan on moving away from canned food and only use organic pure sources of vitamine and proteins. I will soon start a diet based on burdock root, herbs and shrooms,  i just wish we could eat some of the meat raw as well ;) Make it happen R* !!

Happy Hunter

Eating's not just about boosting your cores, but keeping your weight up. I think you take a little more damage if you put some weight on.

I mostly ignored it early on, but now I'm more comfortable money-wise I'm trying to eat more.

meat is my main meal but as cripps is usually the other side of the map i need reserves whilst on a long hunt and looting canned stuff whilst hunting is my answer

DentureDynamite

A wider variety of things to loot would at least help me keep my sanity.

Someone at Rockstar has a very unhealthy obsession with Assorted Biscuits and Kentucky Bourbon.

In story mode you can use those to gain weight.

In RDO - they are worthless. Just sell them to the general store.

I too only use big game meat.

Pressure Drop

I find the tinned stuff useful, because it is an extra storage slot for food, so to speak.
I have cooked 10 or 20 of every meat type in the game, and stowed them in my satchel, which is very useful. I tend to eat the tinned stuff / biscuits etc. before I start digging into my cooked meat supplies, and have never even had to because I loot so many of the free foods.

The problem is the game is bugged, and causes your cores to empty again at random times, like if you start a mission or something. Or if it disconnects you after 20 minutes which is usually the case, and you come back with half empty cores again. The tinned/free stuff is better for filling them up again without digging into meat supplies, and having to cook more. Saves you a bit of time.

The big game meat mixed with herbs is great for when you are going to do a mission or a pvp event, but I would prefer to use the free foods for times when I don't really need a golden core.
