Will GTA V be more appreciated after GTA VI?

Does GTA Vice City make GTA III be more appreciated or does Vice City receive more appreciation? If GTA V made GTA IV be more appreciated it's because IV is the first one of its era and V is just awful. GTA, GTA III, and GTA IV are the first games of their respective eras and since things are introduced, can be pardoned for anything minor. V on the other hand is the absolute meaning of greed and negligence. If GTA VI is awful, the most respect V gets is people saying that VI is even worse than V. If VI is a great game, it will undeniably receive more appreciation than V, especially if it's an improvement over IV.

IIRC at the time, there was less criticism of them due the quick succession (as some said above). Things were then seen progressively - VC built upon III and SA upon VC for example. There was some criticism of SA at the time but none really for VC.

IV of course took the series forward in some ways and backwards in others - this was the huge drop in the ocean that divided the fanbase as some saw it as regressive. V was the great hope but turned out to regress on the features that IV got right and didn't live up to the features SA had. It disappointed two sets of fans. I can't see how VI could possibly do the same (let's hope ey...).

What really scares me is R* not trying new ideas because of the backlash V got. It genuinely felt like R* were trying some new ideas but couldn't implement them the way they wanted. Those systems were too weak for what they had in mind and the result was a load of cut content and half assed features. I hope they continue some of the ideas they started in V and do it perfectly this time.

Unfortunately, I feel like Rockstar is more likely to lean towards another GTA V formula. The game as of today has shipped over 100 million copies, more than any other they have produced, and GTA Online has proven to be a tremendous financial success. I mean a few of us on the forums don't like what it has become, some of us were even displeased with some elements of GTA V's main game. But money talks, and Rockstar, though caring about their fans and wanting to put out high-quality products, are still a business that needs to make profits otherwise the company's future would be at stake. I imagine that even with Red Dead Redemption II we will still get a similar game to GTA V, which isn't so much bad in itself more so that it's just a shame they might not take the series in a better direction.

You are absolutely right but what I mean is that certain features of V were very different from the previous incarnations and Rockstar is unlikely to repeat them. Take the protagonists for example - we won't see another Trevor or Michael. I'm 99.9% certain of that. Looking at Arthur Morgan in RDR2, Rockstar will (and are) returning to a typical anti-hero. That alone will please a lot of fans and will already help many relate more to the story.

GTA will always sell and will break records. However, Rockstar like to changes things and do with each game - the changes they make for VI are likely to please fans as they experimented with certain elements that I just don't see them repeating.

Having said that, if Rockstar opted for a single female protagonist that could cause a backlash...

Now this is somewhat off-topic, but I wonder if in some parallel universe, Rockstar released GTA V for next-gen and PC only. I wonder how much development time it would have gave them as well as new features, along side with cut content, to try.

Probably would've been a better game for it, and better remembered.

I don't count on the broken record of "Bashed for being new, praised because it's old" (nor the other way around as well), because we have our points of why we consider it a step backwards compared to its predecessors.

So, no. At least not for me.

Bump.

I guess it already started to get more appreciation, especially since many people are getting exhausted from the cash-cow and too crazily over the top Online. I don't appreciate it as much as GTA IV, but I can find more things to appreciate by now than I did in the past few months.

Will it get more appreciation after GTA VI? That depends on the quality of the latter game.

If GTAV1 is going to be an online cash cow then I will continue to appreciate V mainly for nostalgia. When I first played in in 2013 on an xbox 360 I really enjoyed it. I was just getting back into gaming after many years away, hadn't played a GTA game since San Andreas(I grew up playing the original GTA 1 and 2 on PS). I enjoyed almost everything about GTAV, but as you grow okder you become more discerning and so it doesn't hold up, especially since I played GTAIV a couple of yrs later, and therefore I am more critical of V now.

Nonethless, nothing can stop me from the knowledge that I had a blast playing it back in the day. So if GTAV1 feels like a a sub par online driven cash cow(low quality sp), I will probably be done with R* but still appreciate V for what it is.

Sadly I'm not sure about the direction R* are going anymore.

In my opinion, GTA 5 was fine, the real issue was all the time being dedicated to Online, and the microtransactions that come with it, GTA 5 could have been so much bigger and better had the team dedicated their time to making single player content. I hope that Rockstar recognises this complaint and does something about it in 6, however the cynic in me sees how much money they've made from Shark Cards and thinks they'll probably double-down on that instead.

Once I replayed a game enough in experiencing everything it has to offer there's little chance I will either tone down my opinion (if game is too bad) or appreciate more than it deserves, so my opinion on 5 will remain unchanged after gta 6.

Seeing RDR2, I doubt GTA VI will be worse than V. Problem with V is that it doesn't really have anything unique to offer to the series (aside from the character switch). So it will always be a mediocre GTA game IMO. But IV and San Andreas will be brought back into the discussion I can ensure you that. Those two really left their mark on the series.

if we see singleplayer mode in gta 6 i am sure it will be good and better than gta 5’s but if it downgrades anything from rdr2 i don’t know what to say. i said rdr2 because there is nothing they can downgrade from gta 5

GTA V really only gets the wooden stick on this forum. Outside it's loved by casual gamers who don't care about things like the story, physics etc, but diehard GTA fans are much harsher so unless GTA VI somehow has a worse story, even more watered down physics etc I don't think it'll be anymore appreciated than it is now.

Even on this forum I don't feel it's as bad as it used to be be particularly since lets just say a few "colourful" characters don't grace the forum anymore.

Physics? I mean the game came out in 2013 for Xbox 360, what do you expected? Look at this:

You can complain about Story, Characters, but never complain anything related to specs like animations, mechanics, etc

Look at Just Cause 3 on PS4 in case of point, a game with way better physics than GTA V at cost at 20FPS on PS4, neither the extra power of PS4 Pro CPU could run it at 30FPS stable

If GTA VI was on PS4, It could have watered down physics because of the crappy CPU they put on that hardware, there is not way it would have watered down physics on PS5

It would be embarrasing to see a PS3 game having better physics than a PS5

The most important question you should answer: Bring me a 2005 PC that could run GTA V with better physics, if you cant, then GTA V has great physics for 2013 standards

Yes. Anybody saying no doesn't understand the cycle. It happens with most Video Games.

The current instalment gets trashed on and past games get looked at more fondly. People forget all the sh*t talking about GTA IV back in the day.

Just look at that page

At #3 Posted by Xaosll; In short: anything not related to graphics.

There is not way the Xbox 360 could handle GTA V with better physics or it would lag; You gonna have to sacrifice Density of NPCs/Traffic of Vehicles, Downgrade Explosions, mechanics like swimming under water, etc

So I'm downloading GTA V on PC this very moment and I'll give it another chance, this time the "remastered" version with decent fps and great visuals. I'll see how I think about this game afterwards.

but V never had an horrible FPS? Maybe on consoles, but my PC that I spent on 1200$ works GTA IV on max easily, 60 FPS. But tho I get crashing issues and terrible freezes that made me quit playing the game. I miss IV, I remember playing it on PS3 with my pals a while back. I play GTA even since GTA 3 was out.  Anyway, back on topic.

If Online will simple just die and everyone will use FiveM, maybe then V will get the appreciation. Hell, I remember the days when all of us used to bash IV's story. Now we love it. For real, I enjoyed IV story but V story was great too. I mean for god's sake, stop bashing it, it wasn't terrible. In my opinion, GTA LCS storyline is very weird. And senseless to me. Has been a while til I played LCS on PSP, time to re-enjoy it on PPSSPP.

Anyway, it's very strange. None of us have nostalgia from playing the game back then in 2013. I played it on the PS3. The missions with Simeon sort of...give me some good feels, but then, the others don't give me nostalgia. It's very weird. V is a great game but I hope people will stop bashing it when VI is relased.

I guess it really depends on if it's perceived to be better or worse

I really have a terrible feeling about GTA 6. The graphics can be terrible. The amount of clickbaits on YouTube with GTA 5 Redux horrible graphics that claim to be GTA 6 can be downgrading it. We have too much of those videos, GTA 5 clickbait videos were less. I think GTA V is the best gta game at the moment.

The car selections - judging a lot of bad cars appearing in recent DLC's, except the Zion Classic, Hellion, Nebula, Dynasty which were the best I've seen in the DLC's last years, the supercars mainstream today can be a very terrible thing for the game.

The fanbase and the leaks and the underestimating to GTA 6 may make the game look horrible. Rockstar is focusing too much on GTA Online which can pause progress and have unfinished things (bad collisions, terrible bugs) and etc.

Man, we really have to stop underestimating V. I used to hate it when it firstly came out but I loved it constantly after.

most people will agree on this i suppose. graphics aren’t important, any game has high end graphics these days. it is the content that changes the game in the player’s eyes. gta 5 had awesome graphics(it still does) and design but this has been wasted with gta online and dowgrades when they actually didn’t have to downgrade. maybe ps3 and xbox 360 didn’t have enough hardware but this doesn’t explain completly forgetting the game. they could easily fix them all on ps4 and xbox one.

That depend on what GTA 6 is gonna be. Maybe they will just call it project America, not GTA.But I do like the premise, sort of like a fusion between Max payne 3 . vice city and GTAIV. Judging by the rumors.

But surely as more time passes GTAV will have classic status. It already has this retro 80s/90s score music, i dont know why they went for that.

sTORY OF gtav WILL NEVER BE AS memeorable as GTAIV or SA. They really f*cked up-

I used to be really hyped about GTAV in 2012 but I was disappointed when I played the game.

Hopefully GTAVI wjll be better. But I might still hate.

Keeping the name just for the brand appeal usually backfires, just look at Mafia 3 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, huge part of the fanbases didn't appreciate that these games used their respective brand's names yet the gameplay is so different from their predecessors. Heck even GTA V and Elder Scrolls Skyrim also gets thrown along these examples.

Still I fear due to Rockstar's greed, next GTA may just follow the same pattern as it allow them to cash grab more easily. Even though it may benefit Rockstar to try something new, their company has a brand appeal too as you may know.

As i said. I started gaming in 2001 just after GTA 3 appeared and the memories are unforgettable.

Now i wonder after GTA 6 will be 10 years old. The story really makes me feel uncomfortable according to the leaks.

2026 will be the last serious year for GTA 6 in my opinion. Rockstar Games just changed its banner on Twitter so something, is appearing but isn't GTA 6.

I think GTA Online will be the death of Grand Theft Auto and we will never see GTA 6.

Honestly i think Rockstar will do Bully 2. I feel it would be enjoyable.

Anyway, nothing of the leaks of GTA 6 will be true, believe me.

Remember when GTA 5 wasn't out and people made GTA IV clickbaits? They did not just work.

Very weird video "GTA 6 FORD F250 TRUCK LEAK" which was the first ever mention of GTA 6. It was a V mispelt and an GTA IV video showing a truck made by lazlow which was Sandking as he said. It dosen't work, simply.

So we will just wait for VI but still some little guy in my brain is telling me "Stick to V, You will have bad luck with GTA 6!". Which creeps me out.

I think GTAV is a true achievement for Rockstar Games. They always wanted to implement an FPV since GTAIII and did it with V, same with Online since after the release of GTA2 they wanted to make GTA: Online Crime World back in 1999, but cancelled it

GTAV made a lot of their dreams come true due to tech advancement and I respect that!

As terrible as the V cast was I guess I can appreciate some of the characters. I was playing some Witcher 3 DLC the other day Hearts of Stone when you're doing the heist with Ewald and wished Michael was there lol.
