RDR2 100% Completion Strategy Guide

I think the graves are not unlocked until the epilogue. I'm pretty sure you are supposed to do them as John, so you can see Arthur's.

But I'm not at all versed in how the completion calculations are made, so my post is nearly useless. :)

I figure my Arthur visits Jenny and Davey while he is up north for Flaco since they mattered. And then he definitely goes to see Kieren, Sean, Hosea, and Lenny after finding out about the big TB. Sometimes he revisits Jenny and Danny.

I don't know if Arthur can visit Eagle Flies since I never tried, and obviously only John can visit Grimshaw's and Arthur's graves.

I found my first grave, and it raised my completion % by 0.1, but it still shows as an unknown collectible on the checklist, should I reload and do it again?

Bear in mind I am on Chapter 4, do the graves not unlock on the checklist until the epilogue?

I really don't know, this is a good question.

Since it doesn't appear on the checklist, I've assumed you can't collect them in advance. Generally R* are quite good at avoiding scenarios that would make 100% impossible to finish in their games, so you're probably OK. However, RDR 2 is so big I'd be a bit loathe to chance things.

@Jimbatron

I've been "forced" to start over and reconsider the beginning order and how you've laid things out. I would be interested in discussing shifitng the order of some of these and I was wondering if you were up for it. Ether here on the board in public or privately by messages if you'd rather.

Or if you're not interested that is fine too. I just respect the work you've done here and your abilty to think things through and thought it would be worthwhile.

Where are you looking? I find there are regular flocks of them flying over Little Creek River in Big Valley. You might have to wait around a while during the day time, but if you stay there a bit they almost always show up after a while. Varmint Rifle should get you a perfect one if you dead eye spam fire at a group and you have the Buck Antler Trinket.

Funny thing is I had a very difficult time in my first run with finding the waxwing but in the start of my second run, I've got copious cedar waxwings.

Robins are still surprisingly a pain though.

Awesome guide, I will use it as a baseline...I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like the main story lets you discover the bigger towns and different features naturally, so I'll probably avoid going to places like Rhodes before chapter 3 and selling to a fence before "The Spines of America". Like I said, this is probably just me but I do thank you for taking your time coming up with this.

For anyone wondering, you can discover all graves with Arthur, except Susan's and his own obviously. Eagle Flies' grave becomes available right after "My Last Boy", before "Our Best Selves/Red Dead Redemption".

I'm happy for suggestions, feel free to post them. Just a couple of warnings - I'm trying to video all the gold medals at the moment, and I don't have a huge amount of time for gaming. Plus the order is quite delicate - if you change it, some challenges might not be unlocked at the right time etc, so some changes might be more difficult than others. Weapons Expert 2 is totally viable at the Valentine Doctors Office btw, I tried it, the only disadvantage I think is you can't escape without a wanted level. If there are good and easy changes, I'll make them, but just don't want to make promises I can't keep!

Have you tried by the Upper Montana River (see the video)? I always see multiple Robins on the banks (great plains side) - you just have to be careful as crossing over early in the story for more than a few seconds will get the Pinkertons on your tail.

Out of interest - do they show up on the 100% checklist in the menu if you visit them? Its normally unghosted when you complete the story.

It's shown as a "Unknown Collectible" or something like that, but still increases your percentage.

So, on the social club it says I have 74.2% complete, but in game it says I have 74.1% complete.  Should I be worried?

One suspects this is most likely a rounding error as there are multiple parts that count as less than 0.05% - notably parts of the compendium such as animals, plants and weapons (e.g for each one of 50 it counts very little).

Probably worth a quick check down the list to see if the social club is registering an item the game isn’t.

Hi Jimbatron, I just wanted to say a big thanks to you for this thorough and easy-to-follow guide. I managed to get 100% using this although I wasn't prepared for the emotional roller-coaster that John's words caused when

Spoiler

he visited Arthur's grave in the 'Paying Respects' mission ("guess we're just about done, my friend" 💔)

- that brought back all the emotion of the Red Dead Redemption mission in Chapter 6. But, cheers once again for this fantastic guide. Glad I'll never have to do those bloody gambling challenges again, thanks to you. Nice one mate 👍

its possible to play all sidemission, challanges and collactibels...

Hi, could you use a spoiler please for the benefit of PC players who don’t know about story etc.

In answer to your question:

Almost everything can be done as John, however there are a few stranger side quests I think may be pre Chapter VI only.

I think the Widow of Willard’s rest may not be do-able if it’s left to the epilogue. I also suspect that the Artists Way and The Mercies of Knowledge may also not be available after Chapter VI. Anything that is needed for 100% can in theory be done later if you wish, definitely challenges and collectibles.

On my current 100.0% play-through, the game refuses to acknowledge that I have maximum health, stamina and dead-eye, in spite of the fact I have 8/8 for each; however. with deadeye it also adds there are two 'extra' levels of some kind, and lest I have missed something horrifically obvious I fail to see just what that may be and how to access it. It alleges I am on the 'first level' of the extra deadeye, but I've absolutely no idea on how to raise it. Could anyone help? I'm incredibly close to reaching 100.0%, and this is one of the few things left I need to do.

When you have completed all the challenges, you need to visit the trapper and buy all the reinforced equipment (gun belts, holsters etc). The last two bonus points of health, stamina and dead eye are only unlocked by this equipment, you can't get them with experience points.

Your guide was extremely helpful!!

Thank you for putting so much effort in it, I really appreciate it 🙏

Thanks really happy if this helped people.

Although the essentials are there, this guide is still being added to. Although I didn't intend to originally, I will be adding videos for all Gold missions (I have done them up to the end of Epilogue Part 1 and processed to end of Chapter 6), plus small videos for all the simpler tasks, even though many of those are self explanatory.

This is so awesome. I completed RDR2 (with about 85% completion) previously,  but during this lockdown i thought I'd dust it off and start again.  I wondered about the most efficient way to complete it and stumbled upon your guide.  Thank you so much for taking the time to put it together.

I don't know if you're still updating it,  but thought I'd give you some feedback from my pov as I've followed it religiously so far (currently just finishing Exotics):

- The link to the video for the Sharpshooter 3 / Bandit 7 challenge is broken

- The map icon for The Gilded Cage should be H, not D

- The Oh Brother! Stranger missions in valentine don't appear in your guide (not sure if they're needed for 100%)

- I struggled with satchel space for Golden Currants, Yarrow and Burdock Root for the herbalist challenge,  and ended up going off-piste for deer, badger and squirrel pelt for ingredients satchel,  so might be worth including that.

Thanks again for this awesome guide.  Looking forward to continuing and completing over the coming weeks.

Thanks! I'll take a look at these issues thanks for flagging.

Oh Brother isn't required, but I am looking at creating a video playlist that contains options side missions too. I agree the Legend of the East satchel is worth going for, ideally immediately after you have the buck antler trinket (as it improves the chance you get a perfect pelt) in Chapter 2. I'm looking to add a mini guide for that. I'm currently in my 4th 100% run through and definitely getting it earlier is better.

I am also adding videos for all the gold missions right now (I'm half way through Epilogue part 2) and completing videos for every task (even the ones in the guide that are fairly self explanatory). It will still take a bit of time though. Even with the lock down I'm still lucky enough to have a full time job for the moment at least.

So, I've now completed 100% thanks to this awesome guide.  Thank you.

On my way,  along with the points bove,  there are a few other pieces of feedback I thought I'd let you know about:

- Horseman 8 can be completed really simply by riding around Lagras for 2 minutes,  randomly blasting alligators with a shot gun. That could save you a few lines in your table :)

- The first Edith Downes mission wouldn't trigger for me because I had low honour (presumably because I'd been following your guide so religiously,  I'd ignored any random side quests). So I jumped ahead and completed the Widow missions and the money lending missions to raise my honour level until the ED mission popped. Might be worth a note in the guide.

Aside from my earlier comment about going off-piste to grab the ingredient satchel, the only other things I did outwith your guide was to go get the White Arabian as soon as I could,  then during the Epilogue, went and completed the Veteran missions as John so I could get Buell. You may like to include those as optional non-100% jaunts.

I've really enjoyed the past couple of weeks following this guide to the letter.  Thanks again for pulling it together.

Now.....I notice this is on a GTA site,  and while I've completed GTA5 a couple of time,  including 100%, I fancy playing it again. Do you by any chance have a guide for that? I really admire the efficiency of yout guide structure,  so would love to test that around the world of GTA.

cheers.

Thanks man, really glad you found it useful. Thanks for the feedback, I will note this down and make the relevant adjustments/comments in the guide. When it was originally written, I only did videos for the tasks that I felt were more complex - and didn't bother with scripted activities such as stranger side quest and missions. But now I'm adding in a Gold Medal video guide for every mission, and videos for smaller tasks too to make it feel more complete. I've currently fully revised up to Chapter 2. So these items (CH4-6) I should hopefully get to over a week or so but currently going through it in order step by step so I don't miss anything out.

The point about low honour is really interesting because I have always had high enough honour to get the stag sequences, I've never seen the coyote(?) in Arthur's dreams. But this might be due to play style a bit too - I donate lots of stuff into the camp funds box to buy upgrades which boost honour, do the chores etc, don't loot corpses who aren't gang members / bad guys etc, take every high honour option choice etc. The only "bad" thing I tend to do is go back for the money at the end of Ch6 - I kind of like giving Micah a scar to remember Arthur by, but I always have got the good ending variant of that.

I'm afraid I don't have a guide for GTA V or other games for 100%, just some for online Challenges such at the Elite Heists and Criminal Masterminds. I think thought all other single player 100%s R* have done previously are a walk in the park compared to RDR2 though, it's on a totally different scale with the amount of activities. GTA IV was slighltly annoying though because there was no map marking of which Pigeons you had got, so if you missed one you had to recheck all 200 locations. At least with GTA V collectables you could see on the social club map which ones you had, and RDR 2 even prints them on the map.

UPDATE 2nd May 2020:

I'm pleased to report the guide had now undergone a major upgrade.

It now contains a video for every task required for 100%, including a Gold Medal video guide for every mission, so this also now covers of the Gold Rush Achievement/Trophy, as well as Best in the West. When I set out to create this guide back in 2018, I envisaged there would just be a video for just the more complex tasks, and for over a year I believe the guide was still very  helpful in that form. However, UK wide lock down has meant I've had a bit more time to play RDR 2 and add in additional videos such as the stranger side quests which weren't there before. It now feels a lot more complete.

I have also, slightly belated, added credits in the acknowledgements section for @Petko, @Beatrice, @Nimrodping and @UnexpectedParole for contributions, suggestions and corrections to the guide. Thanks again to everyone who has provided input to this.
