RDR2 100% Completion Strategy Guide

I've completed the story and have been working on the challenges. I'm stuck on my final challenge, Herbalist 9. I need one final item which I believe is the Acuna Orchid. I can't get it to spawn. After some reasearch I believe I need to finish all of Algernon Wasp's requests in order for the Acuna to spawn. Is this correct?

I just finished Wasps first request and he gave me another. I suspect there maybe a third request after this second one. Once I purchase the final piece from the trapper I can get the Legends Outfit. I'm so close but yet so far.

I have read from multiple users that if they are not spawning that doing Algernons next quest can trigger a respawn or at least the one where you have to collect acuna stars.

The alternative is to check if you are already carrying some acuna and try discarding them. The speculation is the game won’t let you pick all the orchids you need before the relevant exotics quests starts (to prevent you completing it as soon as it begins).

Ok,  The final Acuna Orchid spawns in the third Algernon Wasp request.  The 9th Herbalist is now complete. Now for a bunch of cooking for number 10.

If it is not there in Chapter 6 then your game is glitched (assuming it's not temporarily closed because you commited a crime nearby - is there an icon on the map?). Note it is the Horse Fence, so it has a different icon to a "shop" fence, but should be directly north of your Chapter 3 camp.

Just curious, does the game end the with the same scenario for every player?  Or, is the ending unique to the order each player proceeded thru the game.

The order played generally doesn't affect the ending - although your honour and the key choice at the end of chapter 6 does affect the cut scenes to a degree.

The order in this list is designed with efficiency in mind - doing tasks together when you're in the right locale to do them. The video guides should still be helpful even if you want to deviate though.

For me efficiency was out of the window. Once the gang landed at Horseshoe Overlook I left to explore. I was curious to see/open the entire map. I got caught up in some of the side the  missions along the way. It took me a long time to settle back into the story.

I've started a new game. Got some money right away, the Lancaster and White Arabian. The old womans pump shotgun. It's different this time. I did try to shoot Mr. Downs when he was set up  just out side of the stable in Valentine, no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Fantastic game.

This is a blast @Jimbatron

I have started over RDR for three times now. My first run, which I usually call my "let's see and just do it" run, was a mess, interladed with wrong decisions. No big deal, was a fun run, anyway. For my second run - I bought the "official" guide book, which helped me much more, but it wasn't that accessible like I thought. My 3rd, ongoing run, I use this guide here. A mission a day once I play and I must say: "It feels like a guided tour". Can't describe it better. Yes, it's a wall of text, but broken down to a step-by-step guide, it's very handy.

A big thumb up from here.... still using it and love the guide :)

Thanks @Mrs. Buzz really glad you've found it useful. I'm on my third playthrough now and going for the gold rush achievement but also re-tracing my steps through this, possibly it will need tweaking here and there. If you do come across anything in it that doesn't quite work let me know.

Have just finished Chapter 6 but only shows 17 of the 19 missions completed, how come?

Possibly you have missed some optional honour side quests which aren't needed for 100%. Are you playing with low honour?

Although I always play with high honour, I believe there are some missions that don't show up at all if your honour is low - probably in this case you're missing of Men and Angels and Mrs Sadie Adler Widow. It won't prevent you getting 100% though. However there is an achievement to complete all optional honour side quests which is miss-able.

“Honour amongst thieves” might be missable too. In any event it won’t stop you getting 100% - if the mission is missable it doesn’t count towards the total.

If you check your satchel you’ll lose any carcasses at the end of Chapter 6 I’m afraid. If they aren’t in your satchel you’ll have to get them again.

That sucks then, spent in game hours  trying to find a waxwing but not any sighting yet had 3 perfect carcasses before chapter 6

Where are you looking? I find there are regular flocks of them flying over Little Creek River in Big Valley. You might have to wait around a while during the day time, but if you stay there a bit they almost always show up after a while. Varmint Rifle should get you a perfect one if you dead eye spam fire at a group and you have the Buck Antler Trinket.

So as posted elsewhere I've been trying to follow this guide with the added push towards getting the Legends of the East Satchel as soon as possible.

I'm a little surprised that the satchels are not part of the 100% completion requirements, though I guess since you can just buy them outright at some point it's a bit moot to plan for them along the way?

I'm trying to map out the first days in chapter 2 so that I can have everything upgraded asap and yet seemlessly incorporate challenges..

I guess for me it is partly to try to avoid the seemingly randomness of the challenges requirements. Or the jarring insertion of specificity into my supposedly immersive game. Suddenly arthur just wakes up on day and feels the immense need to drag a guy 3300 feet while on horseback, or shoot the hats off of 3 dudes. Or kill 5 horsemen with throwing knives. wtf?

I already have to deal with some structure and added 'wtf' in the scripted scenarios so this guide which dovetails so many of these things into a more digestable storyline helps.

For that, thanks jimbatron.

I'm just working out how to path out where to get the pelts while finding the dreamcatchers, rock carvings, and dino bones and completing things I was doing anyway.  I'd prefer not to just run a straight search for dreamcatchers just for dreamcatchers sake. That is dumb and non immersive to me.

-For example it turns out you can find a dreamcatcher while on the way to 6 point cabin making a social call. or the dreamcatcher while visting lucky cabin, or the dino bones while hunting legendary coyote.

I'm hoping to turn out a list of those types of things.. anyway, cheers

Cheers. This is still work in progress to a degree, but for setting this up I focused mostly on what was necessary for 100% plus a few extras that were low effort but enhance the quest. I’m just however going back through as I go for the Gold Rush Achievement/Trophy and plan to tweak this a bit.

My view is that getting the Satchels is worthwhile even though not essential for 100%.

Currently I’m going the gold on Chapter 2. Although if you’re a good hunter is possible to get it earlier I like to get the Buck Antler Trinket first as it cuts down on frustration.

I got some of the rarer pelts/skins like the panther and iguana after doing Master Hunter 3 - going down from Twin Stack Pass tracking 10 animals with the binoculars. You need to go a fair distance for that as different animals from the same species only count once. So going south allows you to get Boars and Alligators etc. It’s also just after “Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego” which feels like a time Arthur would be getting enthused about hunting. But lots of other ways you could do it - e.g as you say, when getting the dream catchers. I don’t want to make the tables too big as they are large already but may indicate points in the spoiler text descriptions when it’s not a big detour to get them.

Good points.  I totally support your work here.

I just find most of the hunting goes after getting the buck trinket simliar to how you have huntng request one.

Also, I have mixed feelings about weapons expert 3 throwing knives at 6 point cabin. Have you considered the O'Driscolls in behind the Valentine Doctors office for this one?  I tried 6 cabins during the Social Call mission since I had pushed more knife kills earlier. I wasn't fast enough to do it there. I tried it on 3 raiders in Leymone who were lounging against the wall outside the market containing the trapper. That was a huge pain to escape from and a sick bounty. But I've now easily gotten the O'Driscolls in the back room with throwing knives within 15 sec while Robbing the Valentine doc with a small $5 bounty.

That’s an interesting idea I will try it in my current run through, thanks! I suspect this will work. Thinking back I remember it’s helpful to unlock the deadeye ability to manually paint targets first (autopaint risks you hit a limb which won’t kill and cause you to miss the target). This timing would still work with the doctors office and it also makes sense that Arthur would want to keep the noise down with the Sheriff nearby. Might take me a while to get there though as I’m busy with work at the moment. It’s taken me from start of April to get to “The Spines of America” on my gold run. Whilst it works in its current form my ambition is to get all tweaks and improvements edited in before the PC version release (assuming it is indeed coming).

UnexpectedParole

Quick update on my end. I had to replay the entire first chapter on Saturday since my previous "Eastward Bound" Save was noon on day 2 at horseshoe overlook instead of right after starting chapter 2. grrrrrr.

I pushed forward enough on the guards on the train that I had two knife kills after chapter 1. Well in line for the silent kill on Ike's bounty hunter during the saving Sean to be the 3rd. This leaves me planning on trying for 3 throwing knife kills in 15 sec on the 3 men outside the 6 point cabin during Social Call. I'll save the doctor's office in Valentine for a back-up plan if that doesn't work. (I have done it there before while I have not been able to at 6 point during the mission.)

I also caveat this with my desire not to do the 5 town folk robberies in Valentine as this guide suggests. I planned on doing them outside Strawberry while on the way to and from the Buck hunt.

On Sunday things got derailed though. And derailed again and again. it's crazy some of the results I got. Like not having been back to camp witness Sean's party even though I rescued him many days ago and managed to earn a $120 bounty in Lemoyne for the Black Belle mission... That was a real "Oh you have to be kidding me!" moment.

-Update. This worked brilliantly. This time I was able to easily kill the 3 O'Driscols with throwing knives at the start of the mission. I wonder if I'll be able to do 5 birds from a train with the Midnight mission?

I'm currently finishing up my second play through. This time I left the Pig Farm encounter unplayed.

I'm at the end Chapter 6 in the Our Best Selves mission.

During Sadie Adler part of the mission I stopped following while we were riding along and branched out for the Pig Farm. I let the Pig Farm brother and sister take my $11,00.00 then rode back and completed Chapter 6 .

Epilogue 1

There's a horse in front of the Marston cottage when John begins working at Pronghorn Ranch. I jumped on and rode to the Pig Farm and found the house empty. I was able to recovered my $11,000.00 from behind the portrait.

This early in Epilogue you have no weapons. On  my way to the farm I ran into a Lemoyne Raider stagecoach robbery in progress. After watching them leave I picked up a Lancaster repeater with 4 cartridges. The game won't let you buying weapons while John is working at the ranch.

I didn't like losing all my money in my first play through. This experiment worked.

When I reloaded the game I lost the money I recovered earlier.

After leaving Pronghorn Ranch and John buying Beechers Hope I was able to retrieve the Pig Farm Money so the experiment still worked.

I used the recovered money to buy supplies and the Rose Gray Arabian (my favorite ride)

Howdy strangers,

I've been trying to get the symbol of the American Robin on my map in RDR2's story mode. It is purely an optical issue to me, IMO these drawings look awesome.

What exactly is triggering those drawings? The skinning, scanning, or killing of the animal in a certain area? Does anybody have a clue?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the sketches on the map are approximate locations of where you shot a pristine animal. In this case an American Robin.  Many of mine repeat in all of the games, but some seem to 'move' a bit. -For example I always get a cougar drawn ne of the Trapper located sw of Strawberry. But  I've had badgers shown by the Oil Derrick, or west of Rigg's Station. Not sure I've had more than one on a map at a time, and i'm not sure if I've ever had a Robin. I know I've had a woodpecker.Of course I may never have completed the Hunter's challenge that requested a robin.

anyway,. not a ton of answers r help maybe, but my attempt to help at least.

I found my first grave, and it raised my completion % by 0.1, but it still shows as an unknown collectible on the checklist, should I reload and do it again?

Bear in mind I am on Chapter 4, do the graves not unlock on the checklist until the epilogue?
