The fact that this is more of an issue related to the behavior of certain people rather than the actual gameplay mechanics is the sad part.

Gameplay mechanics encourage the behavior. Players naturally want to progress in an efficient manner, and also want to actually play the game.

If the open world had more to do in it that gave a reasonable amount of experience, then players wouldn't be running missions to get kills to generate experience. If the missions actually required some degree of coordination between players this also wouldn't be as much of an issue. As is, I can solo basically every mission easily.

Even then though, the natural urge to play efficiently and not waste time would see slow players left behind or removed from the group if possible. It happens in the dungeons of every MMO ever made.

I'm avoiding missions entirely for a week or so until the Christmas noobie population thins out a bit.

A wise sentiment. Lots of kiddies getting the game and diving straight into online without the slightest damn clue on how to play. Recently played with a rank 6 who died on the mission "The Right Side of the Tracks".

How you might ask? We got to the part where you chase down and lasso Crawfish and his men. On the first attempt he chased the guy without ever lassoing him successfully, by the time I caught up it was too late and the goon got on the boat and escaped. When I passed him by, the idiot was actually chasing after him on foot. Most likely cause he did not even know how to call his horse.

The second time he actually was on his horse, but he straight up died to the guy and I had to chase down and lasso both men to prevent a second mission failure. -_-

This is why in most games with a multiplayer mode, I often do single player first to understand how the game works to save myself from looking like a moron online and not just being dead weight on those who had the misfortune of being paired with me.

Calling folk who have just got it for Christmas noobs?

Like you’re all seasoned pros cause you’ve been playing for, err, a month!

I bet none of you died at all or made a mistake the first time you did missions eh.

Fwiw I don't necessarily mean "Noob" as an insult but if you just got the game and are learning the very basics of control and button mapping, you're a Noob. No shame in it in and of itself, we're all Noobs at some point, but if you're doing your learning during a mission where you're holding other people back, well... if I'm one of those other people I'm gonna be annoyed. Seems like common courtesy to learn the fundamentals on your own time before putting yourself into the mix with strangers.

Well at least we actually know the basics like calling your horse and how to lasso an enemy. These are bare bone basics and these players don't even know that. I do not expect them to be as seasoned as us, but I expect you to at least know the bare basics like how to call your horse. Secondly if you add in the experience many of us had playing single player, I would chock up our experience with the game around two months minimum.

Most of us actually did the story, so we know how to play. cant say the same for the ones that got it on the 25th

Moral of the story: Play with friends only.

Online mode just really sux at the moment. I am spending much more time in GTAO than RDO mostly because I have stuff to do in that game and nothing to do in this one.

On the topic of the vermin rifle, it should be nerfed into the ground ASAP. Totally ridiculous that I can put 3 or 4 shots into you anywhere and you can just recover and 1 shot me with a .22 - give me a f*cking break. Anyone using that weapon in PvP is a tool.

Well the issue with that is you gotta have a full group of four to make that happen. If there are any empty slots, the game will shoehorn randoms into your group.

If you haven't killed someone after 4 shots, the problem is you. ;)

But yeah. The varmint rifle needs tweaking, or rather, head shot multipliers need tweaking. Don't want the varmint rifle to become too weak for small game.

There is a way to start with only two people. When replaying the mission and in lobby screen, then need to hold B or O on PS4 to back out to free roam, and bring posse as well. Then just go into mission marker. There won't be lobby screen, just straight to starting the mission already.

I've done this, I still get the matchmaking screen with just two people in my posse including myself.  The option to shut matchmaking off in settings as well as the job screen apparently does not work.

The other day, I had an awesome group of mixed rank players doing the mission "Where your morals lead you".  We all stuck together, nobody ran ahead, and nobody overtried to get kills.  It was the best experience so far and they were randoms.  When the mission was over, it was sad that I couldn't have invited them to move on to the next mission together, or join my posse or me join theirs.  Like a fart in the wind, they were all gone forever....Bummer

Really sucks you have to go to freeroam after each mission. It should work like in gta, also with the mapvoting.

Since when?

Turn off match making and get 1 friend.

Does it not work like this anymore?

Even with matchmaking "off" and a friend, it still fills in the empty slots.  Then you can vote the other players out(which I don't like doing for no reason), but then it just refills the spot with another random.  It just keeps repeating the process until the mission starts....At least that has been my experience every time.

So take that!

Pick up outlaw to trigger second set of enemies > drop outlaw and get to killing > deliver outlaw.

I'm the guy who rushes ahead killing everything asafp on that mission.

I've seen too many people who can't shoot quickly, straight, or use cover and manage to DIE on the easiest mission there is. I'm not taking chances. I'm taking as many out as I can to keep the clueless alive.

I've cleared that entire section myself before my team even finished looting the enemies from the first part.

At least, I think that's what they were doing. I can't imagine another reason they just hung around the first area for the better part of 3-4 minutes.

Nah its a waste of time imo to do that when i could carry the outlaw and save time in the long term

Well at least thats one thing they improved upon from Gta Online, enabling teammates to revive one another. In most cases teammates get downed instead of being killed outright, so I just linger near them and revive if any go down.

Except 95% of them just hit the Die button immediately, the better to burn up more lives and force a restart with. A big downgrade from GTAO where players left alive can finish a mission even if all lives are used up. What I wouldn't give to be able to play them solo...

Was playing the mission at the wooden fort. Soon as the dynamite blasts the door, all three noobs run in and all are shot from the Gatling gun and need revived. I had to shoot a few enemies to give me space to start reviving. Soon as I start reviving, all 3 had enough waiting and die out. Mission ends, I leave.

Another time a noob rode his horse in (Leroy Rambo Jenkins) with revolver in hand, instant death. Not really his name, but made me laugh.

In my experience almost everyone held out to see if anyone was going for a revive. If they see me clearing out the enemies around them, they wait patiently cause they knew I needed some breathing room to revive them successfully.

I think many know by now that if all lives are depleted, the mission ends, so most from what I see hold out as long as they can.

Its honestly gotten to the point now with these new christmas players, that I am starting to sound exactly like the police chief when chewing out newbies doing stupid crap. The amount of mission failures I had today.....and for easily avoidable junk.

I always take my time doing the missions and get annoyed by the kind of player who rushes through things and runs straight to the yellow marker ensuring we get a tiny payout of XP and $$$.

I much prefer to finish the mission then spend some time mucking around or hunting meaning a bigger payout.

I play slow style, loot the enemies and the stuff laying around.

this method gives you extra XP, payout, gold PLUS the loot.

PS: I like looting :)
