Horse Cargo

Spent two hours hunting animals to sell for money tonight. One hour ended with a forced logout for no reason, and another hour ended in some asshats randomly running up (seeing that my horse is loaded with pelts) and blowing my head off while I was skinning an animal and unable to even fight back. I respawned close enough to my horse that it didn't reset, only to watch through the scope as one of the previously mentioned asshats strolled up and blew my horse's head off as it ever so slowly walked in my direction.

Frankly - until they actually get around to making it so that horses don't lose everything because of crap like this, I'm done. As much as I enjoy most aspects of this game, this is just unacceptable. I have no interest in playing a game where I can spend most of my evening making absolutely no progress because the only places you can go to sell pelts require visiting a town full of rando's that can kill you in a literal blink of the eye.

That said - I'm assuming that this is even an "issue". For all I know it's totally intended behavior, as death resets your horse in single player as well. I've also not seen a single mention of it as a "known issue". If it is intentional then they can take this game and shove it - I don't have any interest in a game that enables intentional griefing of players.

Am I alone in feeling this way, or do others out there agree that having your horse reset on logout, death, horse death, distance, PvP matches, story missions, or a gentle breeze is ridiculous? I'm just sitting here trying to imagine people trying to play WoW when their inventories keep getting deleted every time they die, log out, or enter a random queue. Somehow I think that'd be an issue they'd want to see addressed as of yesterday, if not a couple days sooner.

No this has been talked about - very frustrating and the reason that I fished a lot at first. But fishing doesn't give you xp like hunting does and I'm doing more of it now.I just got attacked at the Strawberry butcher but was able to kill him and sell my stuff. Whew!

It doesnt reset when you die,at least not always(guess its a bug if it happens).

Reset when horse dies is good, everything else not so much...but its not that bad imo, there are way bigger problems. Most of the stuff you find you dont put on the horse,so as long as killing has no consequences and theres only pvp maybe focus on smaller animals to prevent frustration.

Yeah, fishing is just terribly boring for me. PvP or story missions are alright, but more often I want to wander the open world and just take down game. It's just incredibly frustrating to me that some random person can ruin my whole night with a single bullet when I'm only a couple minutes out from Strawberry or Valentine.

It resets when you die if you respawn too far from the horse. There's also nothing whatsoever I can do about them just murdering my horse, which is what they did.

What bigger problems are there? The butcher bug is a pretty big one, but that's only an issue if you can actually get stuff to market. Most stuff DOES go on my horse, and that stuff is several times more valuable as well.

When I go out hunting I kill every animal I come across, and for every extra-small animal that goes in the satchel I come across I find two small ones like rabbits that only partially go there, and three or four medium or large animals that give hides that go on the back of the horse. The extra large ones are even more valuable, but less important as you only bring back one of those.

I get fooocking disconnected every 10 minutes. and this after the updates. Therefor i now hunt only small game as it will stay in the satchel other than the pelts on the horse.

Im always wondering why money i spent 2 seconds before disconnection is gone i.e. seems 2 seconds is enough time to save what is theirs - Rockstar. But the sh*t i had on my horse for 10 minutes, which is mine, was obvioulsy not enough time to be saved .........

Missions want start, bloody butchers are often broken (cant sell as he stands on his fukin tabel or he stands in the barrel, the camp - yeah this sh*t what to say, disconnections. this is just a total mess and really putting me off. Broken ass sh*t

Big problems are for example the zero consequences for killing other players. The honorsystem is a joke(could also help to deal with griefers). The lack of content in any form.

Losing some pelts is annoying, but the problems are deeper. I guess many people just kill hunters because theyre bored and they know nothing bad happens to them.

Edit: try hunting near st denis. Spoonbills, herons etc until you got 10 feathers. Hunt everything small like muskrats, frogs etc. Kill gators for meal n teeth. One perfect deer or small gator for the horseback,2 perfect herons etc for the sides. Loads of cash and you only lose like 15$ in the worst case.

Ouch. I've been lucky with the disconnects then. It's happened four times to me in about 2 weeks of play. Twice I've lost roughly an hour of hunting goods (~$250) as a result, the other two times I wasn't doing anything important.

The butcher bug where you sell things but don't get paid has been my 2nd biggest issue, as I've probably lost ~$30 per trip this way. Maybe $300 total.

I suppose I can agree with that. The content I'm not terribly worried about, as I know that'll come in time if they want to make any money. Having no consequences for killing other players is a terrible design choice though - it never ends well in games that allow for free PvP. The best free-PvP games I've ever played all had serious consequences for players that did kill players frequently (provided someone managed to take them down). Dropping equipment on death, heck - even literally having your character placed in a jail for days or weeks of real world time.

It's just incredibly frustrating to me that as it stands now there are terrible consequences for players that have no interest in engaging in PvP, but zero consequences for those that do.

SaturdayNight

The real problem with this and countless other online games attempting to simulate anything related to reality is that they lack any heavy consequence for being a dick. I get shooting other players is an option but just because you can step on someone defensless doesnt mean you should.  If you wanna be an asshole outlaw then you should be treated like one.

Law should be constantly on the lookout for you or active bounty hunters constantly going to previous spotted locations by npcs and players. Shops that recognize you should not sell to you or if threatened will sell very limited supply. Being an actual outlaw should encourage living in the wilderness as well as always being in a posse to deter shootouts.

Also disabling the map will more than likely force players to slow their roll before running into town to blast you, they dont know who youre roll with and how many.

I was hunting tonight and had stuff on my horse when I got ambushed and killed. Respawn, whistle for horse and everything is there - I was amazed. Maybe it's only when you get killed by another player, which is bad enough.

This is exactly what I do.

I join a lobby way out West in New Austin, manually ride until I've cleared most players and auto ride to Leymone and follow the tracks down to St Denis butcher. By joining the session out west most players are located there and St Denis is quiet. (Check map periodically). As you head south pick off Herons, Spoonbills and any Pelicans that wade near the shore, but ALWAYS keep an eye out on the skies. During the day you'll often get flocks of these birds flying over head.

10 heron feathers net you $15 risk free in your satchel alone. Spoonbills and Pelicans slightly more and you hold 10 of each species of water bird. You get 3 from each bird so you only need to kill 4 of each. This is where flocks are a real gold mine.

Stick a couple of perfect carcasses on the side of the horse.

Perfect Alligator skins makes $3.50. BUT keep an eye for the baby gators. You can skin them and store up to 10 skins (€3.50 each) AND keep the carcass of one which sells for $6.50. In other words, one perfect baby gator will get you $10. They aren't easy found during the day but more common at night. They can be tricky to kill because of their small size but a Rolling block between the eyes ends their suffering quickly and keeps the hide perfect. If you miss the first shot forget it move on, they're sneaky, speedy little ****ers when shot at.

Doing laps up and down the tracks nets you serious cash mostly from feathers which are risk free.

If feeling up to it, when riding back north from the butchers for your next hunt, when you spot a lone rider, jump onto his horse and ride off. When the dust settles you can store crap on that horse and whistling will keep your own steed following and you can load him up as well. Downside is you need to to tether your borrowed horse or he rides off and you need to keep him pretty close to he doesn't de-spawn. Also you have to manually take off your cargo at the butchers before letting him run back home.

😊

I feel ya for sure... I got DC'd 2x yesterday w/3 star buck and spoonbills on board. That REALLY gets irritating (as does spending $2 to have my camp placed across the map lol)

As for death by eedjits; I always lose what's on board. Not sure about the feller that said it's a bug. Sure, we keep what's on us, but that's not the most valued cargo. That being said, I am VERY mindful of others when hunting. I tend to bring up the map while skinning, to see what's around. Beyond that, I also look to see if the folks in town are killing each other, or playing "nice" prior to deciding where to go sell. Given I am a swamp hunter, it's St Denis or Rhodes if things look dicey. To be honest, most of the time I can speed down the tracks to get to the butcher without issue.

I've also seen carcasses despawn if their too far apart before harvesting (like taking out a large flock etc)... kinda crap as well.

As for griefers that hit hunters as an easy kill, I note the GT and wait for the 'red dot' to go away. Then I hunt them down (makes it easier when they don't see u coming). I find most of the time it's the lower level folks (sub-lvl 15) and so hey, I have the cards and weapons to deal with em.

NOTE; just north of the swamp are some bucks and white tail... they actually sell for more than the gators. So, I start there before doing the laps around the swamp.

You only lose what's on your horse if the horse dies or if you die and respawn too far from the horse (making it despawn). In this case they killed my horse intentionally.

I've done this a lot as well, the trip in and out of Rhodes takes a couple minutes to complete and can net $20+ a trip. Trouble is, I like doing more than just grinding the same small area over and over.

The place I've been enjoying most is the mountains up north. I love the environment, and since there's basically never any players in that entire section of the map it's literally never been a concern once in the last two weeks.

The trouble is that last bit coming into Valentine or Strawberry. Both towns almost always have people in and around them (like all the places with butchers).

I have better luck in Big Valley but will definitely check St. Denis after reading this. OP, do you use the mobile app at all? It's not the sh*t-show app that iFruit is.  Having that extra map running can mean the difference between life and death. I always take a quick glance when I've got carcasses to skin so I can plan an escape if someone is nearby.

Why would you go a whole night and not visit the butcher more regularly?

Ive been playing for 6 or 8 hour sessions at a time and I think 1 random approached and shot me once.

The rest of the time time I just went about my business, as did the the rest of the full lobbies.

This griefing thing is grossly over exaggerated on here.

I was out for about an hour, which is enough time to make a couple circuits of the player-free mountains and fill my bag with meat unmolested.

Going back to the butcher is quite a trek (and dangerous)  so I only do so when my bags are filled. The other option, as noted, is to never leave the butcher's side and just grind away at stuff immediately outside town then go sell it right away. I don't do that often, because it's boring as hell only ever playing in one tiny spot of such a huge world.

This would help to some extent, but the underlying issue would still be there. Namely.. should joining a PvP match or other random queue erase a large portion of my inventory? Should logging out? Being griefed by other players is only a portion of the issue.

Besides disconnects its easy to avoid these problems. Just dont start hunting larger animals if you wanna play outside of freeroam in near future.

Another idea regarding more butchers/trappers on the map: would be cool if you could deliver stuff to post offices/fast travel points, pay a fee(like 20% of selling price) and they deliver it to the butcher for you.

So after giving up in frustration last night, I thought I'd come back and give it another go with a clear head. That went well. Yet another load of pelts completely lost to this stupid ass system. This time thanks to the game literally going blue screen of death on me just as I pulled up to the butcher (literally, pulled up, dismounted, took a step to talk to him.. crash) after managing to somehow survive against the persistent attacks of a posse of three people for the better part of 15 minutes on my way back to town.

I mean, since when do CONSOLE games crash? I've never - in 20+ years of gaming - seen a console game crash to "desktop" and give an error code. Still, I do the majority of my gaming on PC. I'm used to this. This is not an issue I'm terribly worried about. What frustrates me is that my inventory will, once again, be reset. This is what I find unacceptable.
