The awards are planned, but since the forum update the actual awards are pretty pointless because the medals are no longer displayed on Avatar Bars.  

 

Work is ongoing to fix the issues, but we thought up the ideas of this game to help pass the time and create some festive fun while the awards are missing.  We don't have the final ETA for Awards Medals being reimplemented and thus the 2018 awards 'may' be skipped and integrated into the 2019 awards.  We're just not sure yet.

However, this game has been so successful you can bet this one will be back to haunt the naughty members next year.
