Cannot play, keeps disconnecting everytime

I’ve tried to join online 4 days ago but I cannot do anything without getting disconnected, and I believe this is happening to everyone but not this often.

 

I tried to do the Davies intro mission 8 times before I could succeed and now every story mission that I join I get disconnected after 1 or 2 minutes. On freeroam I can stay longer like 10 minutes but it’ll kick me after a while.

 

I have some network knowledge, my ps4 is wired, tried forwarding the required ports, enabling UPnP, DMZ but nothing changed. Never had a problem with GTAO or other games.

 

I understand that this isn’t normal, maybe a network problem here and there but not this severe, since people are progressing as I can see.

 

Does anyone is having a similar experience?

I was getting disconnected a lot a couple weeks ago. I haven't played much since. I can only imagine it will be much worse during the holidays

I rebooted the router of my internet provider. In plain English, I turned it off and on again. Maybe it helps in your case.

I rented a couple of times because 1. I knew online wouldn't launch for a month after release day. (like gta5) 2. Because I knew there would be connectivity problems early on, after online launched.  Well when online first launched, I couldn't hardly play at all. It kept disconnecting during the initial 'Horse Thieving 101' mission. So I get the game for Xmas, have relatively no problems yesterday. Maybe dc once in about 3 hours of playing. Today different story. DC pretty much every time I play. Last DC, was way out in front racing with a room of around 10 people.

 

Sure hope they get this stuff fixed soon. Its discouraging me from wanting to invest any time into it.

Due to how the connectivity of the servers work,  you need a faster internet and a strong constant connection...

 

This is because unlike gtao, the servers in rdro update constantly,  loading players into the world as you near them. And depending on those players internet speed/ connection,  it can have an effect on your ability to load in their data(character model and such)... causing you to disconnect

Yep. My wired connection is too bad to play RDRO unless I'm off solo in the middle of nowhere. My mobile phone 4G as a hotspot let's me play, but is so unreliable I also see lots of disconnects.

 

Never an issue in GTAO, because of invite only lobbies.

Is Red Dead Online doing the same P2P (Peer to Peer Connection) that GTA Online is using still? Or is it on dedicated servers?

My link is 100Mbps downstream and 10Mbps upstream which nets around 11MB/s and 1.1MB/s of transfer speed so I guess this isnt’t the problem. The signal arrive at the modem by coaxial cable, then wired to the router and wired to the PS4.

 

Again, never had a problem with all the battlefield games that I played  for years, such as elite dangerous and gta online.

 

I tried turning off all the router’s security like firewall for testing purposes but it didn’t help.

 

What is most weird is that there’s a pattern. I join a contact mission, It starts normally and runs for a minute or two, then everyone freezes in their places and some seconds later it will disconnect.

Same p2p crap. The transaction validation and some data run on dedicated servers but the main interactions run on p2p. They had 5 or more years of gta online to sort that this is crap, but their greed told them otherwise. The difference now is that it’s probably more strict to difficult glitching and solo lobbies.

 

I wished that every disconnected resulted in game crash so I and other players could flood them with crash dumps reports directly through the PS4.

I have noticed stranger missions are starting to lag out as well but most issues can be resolved by selecting the respawn option from online options or you could just dynamite yourself either or

I don't think its the connection on our ends. Most of us anyway. I played last night in free roam and didn't have any problems. When I went into the race series, it started disconnecting. Same thing today. Attempted 3 races, 3 disconnects. It's just their servers. If it were a matter of everyone's connection speeds, then they should have to label an optimal speed for network play on the packaging.

Seems to be very random for me, a week ago or so I got disconnected 3-4 times in one evening, but the last few days have been smooth sailing 🤷‍♂️

 

I’m thinking that using a cable to my router might erase the issue for good but when it’s working OK I can’t be arsed with it lol

Last week  I couldnt do anything because I would disconnect every few min. One week later jumping on for the first time, same thing still happening. Literally unplayable.

I had 1 DC today, along with 1 crash and 1 stuck in matchmaking screen, all this within 30 minutes, then I played for hours with no issues.

And other days I can't play 15 minutes without getting kicked. I am on a 100/100 mbit connection, wired, and it is only in Red Dead Online I have issues, everywhere else is 100% competely fine, and it only happens on the weekends and holidays in the region.

So my guess it is a server issue and not local, the servers probably can't handle the amount of people in the lobbies. Hopefully when the team gets back to work they pop out a patch that fixes this annoyance.
