I almost reloaded a earlier save, before the first win and just stay on 0 and forget about the whole gambler challenge thing, I still have that save so I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do, I can't even discribe in a sivil way how I feel about this challenge 😬 😳

Making progress-  I got to 5 cards without busting twice! And actually won one of them.

It's quite obvious that I'm not meant to beat this challenge.

Pure luck with this one:

Freaked me out a bit. I was worried I'd lose my progress. My first 2 were fairly quick to get; 3rd one took me like almost 60 minutes to get.

Got all 10 challenges now tho; the next ones are really easy, if you save after each game won.

Good to know, sounds like level 8 is the big hurdle for many in the gambler challenge.

Also make sure you never bet the minimum amount, I noticed you win far less when you do so, always increase the bet...

I have been wondering if using some of the unlocked gambler reinforced equipment could or would give us some luck? Anyway it's a new day and with new possibles 😃, I need just one more 3 hit win.

Well, If you think challenge 8 is difficult wait until the next one, it’s on another level. Where you pretty much need to save between each round, if you couldn’t do that, I think I would have never finished it!!!

The next one is dominoes right?

I got this first attempt at Emerald Ranch. Should only be one opponent and it’s an easy variation. Top tips:

1) Get rid of your doubles as early as possible.

2) Place tiles that will give you and option to play at either end for your next go - so whatever your opponent plays you have an out.

3) Pay attention when your opponent cant go and has to draw a tile. What are the end points? Let’s say it’s a two at one end and a six at the other. As soon they’ve placed a title remember their remains ones still don’t have any 2s and 6s. So if you can give them the same ending tiles with your next play, they’ll have to draw again.

4) Avoid double 5s for this one. It’s great to win a one off round without drawing as the spinners (doubles) allow you to have upto 4 titles to play off rather than 2. But it’s risky when you need to win a match. A couple of lucky tiles can give your opponent 30+ points and there is little you can do about it.

With regards to Blackjack, there is no strategy, as long as you do the basics of keep hitting when it’s mathematically possible to still get less than 22 with 5 cards, there is little more that you can do. And if you get it in 90 minutes, you can count yourself lucky.

Its sinfully boring.

R* have a legitimate reason to patch it though without changing the challenge however!

The reason is you can draw three cards, win the hand and still not get the challenge! How is this possible? Well let’s say you start with two aces, two twos, or other low value pair. You can split them! Now if you draw three cards on each hand you’ll be adding it to one, not two, I.e you are drawing three cards and only having a total of four in your two hands. But this doesn’t work. The game requires to to win with a 5 card hand - which is not actually what the description says. So if they changed it so it actually matched the description, and you could get it by splitting a pair in three, it would be a still pretty intensive challenge, but probably take half the time.

Actually you have to stay in the game otherwise your progress will be reset AND if you lose a game of Domino's, your progress will be reset.

Did they patch this? I swear on my first play through I was able to get up from save after winning a match, then start another and it worked fine. Granted, I won three on the bounce anyway so I didn’t have to reload or try to see if the challenge progress was actually saving.

Yes, many people say it's patched now, I haven't gotten so far yet, still need one more 3 hits win, tried an hour and so and this is the closest I came:

stood on 18, but that was not enough 😢, I'm back in Rhodes now for more self-torment...😬 😂.

Gambler 9 is not bad.  Just don't sit down unless there's only one opponent, which is often true at Emerald Ranch - if you find more, just ride a mile away and ride back to reload it.  When you get one opponent, start playing.  A few simple strategy tips that I think make this a cakewalk against AI:

1. Play your doubles as soon as you can always.

2. Maintain numeric diversity above *all other considerations* except #1.  In other words, if you have a 5/2 tile, a 5/3 tile, a 4/3 tile, and a 6/1 tile, and you can play either the 5/2, 5/3 or 6/1, play the 5/3 (because you still have the 5 and 3 left after playing it).  The computer pays no attention to this and will usually end up drawing more than you in 2/3 of the rounds you play (the other 1/3, they'll just be lucky).  Now eventually you always get down to 1 or 2 tiles and are counting on luck to finish, but if you can consistently get that far down faster than the dumber CPU, and make him keep drawing, you will win a lot of rounds and often get a lot of points from it.

3. If #1 and #2 aren't factors, just play the highest combined tile you can to avoid giving a lot of points to your opponent.

4. If your opponent starts drawing, pay attention to what's on the board and try to keep it that way.  Say the CPU doesn't have a 3 or 4, draws a bunch and then plays on the 4.  Now you can play either the 3, or whatever number the CPU just put down... do the latter.  There's a decent chance it will send them back to drawing again.

I don't win every round against the CPU but I have yet to lose a game against a single opponent. Most of those games I blew them out, winning the majority of rounds and beating them by 20+ points.

When was this patched? I completed the challenge 9 after the last 1.05 patch and I could sit up and save anytime between rounds and still have the winning streak going, the only criteria is not to lose of course, but you can still quit the game anytime you want and keep the winning streak

@Nutduster almost exactly what I posted for dominos above - great minds - I think your point 2) is slightly better / more detailed than mine though.

@Ingrobny really feel for you having gone through the pain myself. The best advice I can give is do it when you're too hungover to play anything more challenging and grind it out over a couple of hours early on a weekend morning.

PS. The other thing that really, really annoys me, is forcing you to stop on 21 when you have an Ace in your hand.

So say I get a 3, a 5 and a 2 for the first three cards. 4th card comes up and it's an Ace. Can I count it as a one and hit again to be guaranteed of getting a five card trick? Of course not. The dealer congratulates me by yelling out "21!"* and moves on to the next player.

*This may have led to an incident where the dealer and the rest of the players round the table met with a accident involving a scofield revolver.

I mean you can't quit RDR2 without it resetting. Say if you win two games, quit dominos, save and play another game and come back to RDR2 later, your progress will be reset.

So you can't save one win and when you loose and the challenge is reset, you can't load the previous save and continue from that? But we can exit the domino/poker game before we loose and still keep our win?

When I got Gambler 8 and 9, I did them in the same game session. Are you saying if you save and quit RDR2 after 1 victory out of 3, the progress will be lost when you re-load?

Gambler 8 dosen't reset, but I'm not sure about 9 and 10.

Yes but if you exit on an opponents turn before they reveal their hand, if they have a winning hand your progress will be reset regardless

That’s quite important then. You really need to set aside a whole morning at the weekend for Gambler Chalkenge 8. Spending 2 hours in the evening mid week could be a horrible waste if you run out of time and can’t get the third win with 5 cards.

No, you can save between winning hands in poker - challenge 8. But you can’t save and quit the game in challenge 9, dominoes, otherwise your win count goes back to 0.

It's just for the gambler challenge 9 and 10. I'm doing the gambler challenge 8 these days and it dosen't reset if you reload or turn the game off, I'm still at 2 wins out of 3.

A new day with new possibles... I just need 1 more win, (oh god, I'm starting to sound like a person with a gambling addiction... 😬)

tried for 45 min or so and the closest I have been so far is this:

busting out, so you see Rockstar, it isn't a question about lack of commitment, but this challenge 8 is almost impossible to beat.

Edit.

5 min later and there it is, finally:
