This is how you play Blackjack... Gambler #8

Gambler challenge 8, spent about 90 minutes.

Also, surely there's no 'How to play Blackjack' to complete Gambler Challenge #8?

 

It's a ridiculous, pure luck challenge, and the only way to beat it is to spam 'Hit' until you get lucky.

 

In fact the only possible decision you could have when doing that challenge is if you get dealt a mid-range pair, and have to decide whether or not to split.

Even then, I'm sure there's a mathematically correct answer as to whether 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 or whatever is the appropriate time to split to try and get a five card hand......

I just tried again, this gambler challenge 8 and I can't even win one time, I'm so mad right now, I almost threw my controller in the TV, it's just pure luck, I have tried everything, sitting on each side of the table, exit the game when loosing, reloading a save and see if I get lower cards, but nothing works, what was Rockstar thinking? This is the only challenge i can't complete, this makes the hunting challenge a cakewalk.

 

I'm not sure what should be changed with this challenge, because I also strike out on every 2 hits as well, lower the winner times by 1 is not going to help me either, because I can't even win 1 time, this challenge is making me furious and I can't buy parts of the gunbelt, because everything else dosen't match with the gambler gunbelt, having the gambler gunbelt and primary holster with another off hand holster dosen't match at all, so a full set is the only way to go.

 

Please for love of god Rockstar, would you please look into this challenge and see if you can change something so it's a bit easier, not too easy (not sure about this, because the Bandit Challenge is rather easy), it is a challenge after all, but like it is now, it is simply impossible for me to win and get past challenge number 8.

 

Challenges so far, finished: Master Hunter, Weapons Expert, Explorer and Bandit, the rest: Gambler level 8, Herbalist level 9, Horseman level 9, Sharpshooter level 9 and Survivalist level 9, need access to New Austin before I can finish the rest, except the Sharpshooter Challenge, need the free shot in Dead Eye first to complete level 9,  but the biggest obstacle here is the Gambler Challenge level  8.

I honestly hate doing all of the challenges, they force you to do mundane boring crap. I'm only like 45 in and wondering if its worth it to keep going.

Wait till you get to challenge 9. It's way worse

That's the problem I can't get to level 9, not without loosing the little sanity I have left from trying level 8 for hours, I'm not looking forward to level 9 or 10, but right now, that's not the problem.

I can put up with most of what the game throws at me, even the Wildlife Art Exhibition is easier and better to do than the Gambler Challenge level 8, Ms Hobbs are on vacation now, whatever that means, maybe this will continue later on, but for the gambler challenge level 8 it is out of our control, it's in it's hands of the RNG god, I can't even think of it, it makes me furious, best for my Arthur to focus on other things in the RDR 2 world, or else I'm afraid he will loose his mind and start killing random people (in RDR 2 that is ) and loose his high honor.

Maybe that's the point.

Arthur, enraged at spending his last dime on blackjack, blazes through St. Denis in search of the dealer who done him wrong. Forget Dutch, the biggest antagonist is the dirty card dealer.

(Don't blame me tho, haven't even gotten past the domino challenge. Ugh)

Hahaha, maybe it is, I read about one guy (on reddit or gamefaqs) who got so angry he killed the card dealer and people (NPCs) around, so if that's the point, then Rockstar was successful 😂.

Actually you do it when there's only one player at the table. It's a bit quicker.

It's been only few times there has been less than 3 players at the table and after a while with 2 players more is coming in and are joining the game, it's a lot of reloads to get everything set up right and even then you are not sure you can pull it off, it bugs me that this challenge is based on extreme luck.

What's frustrating is that it needn't have been.

 

They could have just made the challenge something like 'Win ten hands in one session at the Blackjack table, and make a profit'. 

That would have been tricky enough.....and whilst some luck would still be involved (it is Blackjack, after all!), that would actually test your skill at the game.

 

I'm currently in the middle of Epilogue 2, and have been spending many hours grinding through the Exotics quest. Which is tedious, but doable.

But I also know in the back of my mind that I've still got to successfully finish Gambler 8, and a bunch of other really boring challenges. And I'm starting to doubt that it's worth it - starting to feel that I might be happier finishing the bounties, the final Stranger quest and the missions, accepting that I'll end up at 95% completion and then starting over for a second story play through........

I don't know if it's worth it, it's a nightmare, so I'm going to skip the rest of the gambler challenge, but complete the rest of the other challenges, the bandit gun belt and holsters is cool enough, even I would like to use the gambler gun belt, but not without the gambler holsters, I like the gambler gun belt with the buckle and it would match Arthur's hat, since he uses a gambler hat, but I need the full set, but that's not meant to be.

I have spend more time than that on that challenge, but yes you can, but you can also spend hours and hours and not be able to do this as all, it's all about luck.

 

I whish we could make a gambling lucky charm, a rabbit foot or something, I would rather kill 1000 rabbits for making this charm, than spend more time at the blackjack table without a good luck charm 😂 (don't worry I'm not going near a blackjack table again, for my om sanity sake). but I don't know how much luck it could bring without breaking the challenge, but maybe something Rockstar could look into?

One thing I did notice is that, you have to keep sleeping between winning hands, to make the odds more favourable to get the winning hand again... don’t just get the first win and then continue, save and sleep in between. This challenge really isn’t that difficult compared to the one after it.

First I had to win 1 time, I haven't even managed to do that, 1 win would give me some confidence boost and would help me keep going.

 

In general I'm quite unlucky when it comes to gambling, in real life and in games 😂.

See the video I posted above. That specific strategy makes it take less time. It certainly doesn't take days like some people are suggesting.

And the video dosen't help, to be able to finish this challenge, you need low number cards and be able to split would also help, but the problem is I'm getting many picture cards which makes 3 hits and win impossible, rarly can I split, I have reloaded a ton of times, went back and checked if the card dealer would give me a lot of low number cards, without any luck, so I will not torment myself any further with this challenge as it is right now.

No, you don’t need to split at all, that’s the wrong way doing things... what you have to do is to make sure one of the aces comes up with the first 2 cards dealt... and then just keep hitting

But we can't make sure, it's completely random what cards you are getting, I know the trick is low number cards and aces, but if we are only dealt high number cards with kings, queens and jacks, it is impossible to hit 3 times and do this 3 times is just mind-boggling 😬 😂.

DON'T RELOAD THE GAME. You're messing with the random number generator that way. Yeah, it is quite random so you don't actually need to reload the game. Just keep leaving and joining the table until you start getting low cards.

Trust me, friend. I was also frustrated and wanted to give up but I also wanted 100% completion. It was kinda worth it in the end.

Betting a bit higher usually gave me lower cards.

Okay, I was in Rhodes and thought I would give this challenge a new chance, I didn't start very well...:

and after half hour or so, I managed to win with 3 hits:

 

 

got a second chance with standing on 18:

 

 

but the card dealer won with 20 😧.

 

2 unlucky incidents in a row, it's just not meant to be....

2 hours and only 1 win with 3 hits...

 

Close call again:

 

 

and I'm starting to get agravated again... it's  time to move on.
