Things You Didn't Know About RDR:O

Just noticed in the settings that you can also hold down "A"(Xbox) to run; Been tapping when I had to... I saw it in controls, while looking for something else.

Now, if only you could do that on the horse.

Oh, weird I just read you could hold it for "gallop" speed, but not run. I'll have to try that when In game again.

--------------

Oh, double der, it is mainly of use when riding a wagon. I've been tapping "a", all this time...

I started a Bounty Hunt where I was supposed to ride to Monto's Rest and start searching for clues. But I had a 3-star grizzly pelt on my horse so I decided to detour into Strawberry first to sell it before beginning the mission proper.

Who do I run across on the road to Strawberry? The bounty target. All without entering the search area, without having to track a breadcrumb trail, without having to follow the script. I lost out a little when I had to swap the bear pelt for my hogtied prisoner, but at least I filled that daily challenge for finishing a bounty in good time.

Today's Lesson: if you get one of those kind of bounty missions, just look for the target-- he's already there somewhere and you don't have to jump through hoops to spawn them.

Happened to me and @SkynetOnlineID last week. We had a bounty in Cholla Springs. En route, I look over and see a campfire and wagon, obviously unusual.

Turned out to be the lady we had to capture, never had to play cowboy Sherlock Holmes.

A lot of the bounties are like this. If you do enough of them, you can just scope the perimeter and bypass the bullsh*t. Especially helpful when it’s a 4/6 bounty and you’ve got the wagon. You can prevent them from running and screwing it up. Double bola, then a double lasso tackle. Boom, done.

There's a translucent square over the targeting reticule that I never noticed before, easier to see against the sky.

Bounty hunting, on the Dakota river. The fugitive, was heavily guarded at a camp on the river bank. Found some cover; the plan was to snipe, the camp guards and wait for the bounty to "rabbit". Heard a chorus of wolves howling and then... mayhem.

Had to snipe, the wolves, to protect the bounty.

Seeing wolves, maul the "cowboy sh*t" out of some outlaws, through a scope. Is why, I play this game. Incredible detail.

Dynamic stuff like this are what we need more in games. Stuff that isn't scripted completely changing up the way you play is something that's slowly becoming lacking in nowadays' gaming.

Been meaning to post this for a few days but forgot.

You can beat up the Sheriffs that you drop Bounties off at. Stand near them and press Y to grab them from their chairs and go to town on them, they are invincible but react to all the animations so you can stab them, slit their throats, knocked them out and they just get back up.

Had something like that happen with the NPCs of the camp defense just north of gaptooth breach. I saw the smoke from the campfire so I head up the hill and when I get there, there's literally nothing there except the two NPCs just standing around. No camp items/wagons, no bad guys circling them, just them standing there.

So out of curiosity I go to kill one and they get right back up, ended up going to town on them for a bit with my knife and sure enough got up each time and just stood there. Got bored of that pretty quick so I took off but that damn bugged camp defense was still there much later, eventually left the area and forgot about it.

Prolly not new to most of ya but some stuff i discovered about horses and carriages over the past few days
- You can calm your horse while riding it (same button as when standing next to it, only works when riding slow)
- You can pickpocket horses, if you shoot or lasso somebody of their horse the horse only runs a short distance and then stands around nearby, 'spooked' & slowly walking away from you if you get closer, you can lasso it to get close enough to calm it, after you've calmed it (and that really means calm, dont rush this) you can approach the side of the horse to search its saddlebags (if not calm enough it will kick you)
- During the many missions/jobs where npc's chase you on horses, its much easier to just shoot the horse so it collapses, much bigger target and same effect (the rider will slam into the ground and either go knock-out or get stuck there cuz its horse is downed)
- Most carriages have lanterns, so if you play jobs at night time you can just shoot the lanterns to have carriages go up in flames
- Same trick that works for horseback npc's works for npc's chasing you with carriages, you can just put a few bullets in (one of) the horse(s) and the carriage will crash
- When starting out/short on money, theres really no point buying any food for the horses, you can find wild carrots literally everywhere (well apart from the snowy area i guess)

When you're crouching and you pass through a door or fence, you perform a very slowly careful opening animation, impressive detail on depth that adds to immersion.

So, @SkynetOnlineID and I were posse’d up. Usual stuff. Filling up our camps and treasure hunting. We both had a treasure map in Bluewater Marsh.

Turns out, we both had the same exact location and treasure chest. What are the odds?

We figured one of us would get the short end, but no. We both were able to open it up and get the rewards. Pretty sweet.

And that’s a thing I didn’t know.

If you apply hair pomade with a hat on, your character will lift off the hat and hold it in 1 hand, while using the other hand to apply the pomade.

Neat little detail, I expected it to just get applied.

Took a job, to hunt a cougar, in Cholla Springs. Tracked him for five minutes and spot him walking down a bluff. Gained some high ground, for a better shot. Wham! Poison arrow, hit its upper right side.

The cougar, runs into some brush. I could hear it wailing and moaning; poison is working. Dismount and walk over to the "red paw" symbol...

wait the "red paw" symbol is moving towards me!

Cougar, runs at me full speed and pounces. Hat flies off, horse hauls ass and I am lunch.

My health, is draining and I can't break free. The cougar, makes a burping sound and drops dead at my feet. Had a slither of health left.

My first time seeing this.

I get that most people don't, but this is what I miss about looting corpses.

There are four.

Two women - arguing

Two women - bounty hunter

Two men - bounty hunter

Two men - arguing

None are interactive.

If your quick enough you can tie them up, but no real value to it and despite the fact you stop a murder other npc's will freak out if they see you do this

Honestly while it is kinda a bummer there's nothing else to them other than something to watch for the most part, I wish there was more stuff like this going on in the game. Not everything has to be something I can interact with and stuff like this goes a long way towards helping increase how "alive" the game feels.

Like I wanna randomly come across NPCs on horses shooting at each other while riding down the road, etc etc.

That would be lovely. Imagine, riding into Valentine at night and witnessing two NPC carrying a dead body in the alley of the Saloon. And over hearing, a saloon girl, bragging about killing cowpokes, that refused to pay.

Exactly, I guess when you put it like that and thinking about it, I just want an online that's got the game world from single player. I really hope they're able to achieve something like this with GTA6 but we'll see.

If you loot the loser of the duel while the winner is still near, the winner gets mad and starts shooting.

If it's the bounty pair and you wait, they pick up their bounty and start to walk away. If you kill the bounty hunter, you get to loot both.

If you kill the winner, you get to loot both.

Likely common knowledge among the old hands, but if you have a 3 start animal on the back of your horse and he runs into something and throws you and the animal off, it becomes a 1 star and you can no longer skin it.

Last time I encountered a duel I tied up the winner and tried to deliver them to the sheriff's office hoping maybe I'd get some bounty Hunter points or something. You can't even enter the sheriff's office with them, it automatically drops them.

never had that issue myself. My horses love banging heads into trees and rocks occasionally, or stage dive off of cliffs, but if it was carrying a 3 star animal, it never decreased in quality and could still be skinned/picked up. It could decrease in quality if your horse decides to trample it while getting back in its feet, though.

Ran into another of those duels yesterday, and something was different, one of the 2 npc's had a red crosshair-dot-thing (so indicating it was an enemy) while in the past they were always both marked as safe/white crosshair-dot-thing. Was during a trader delivery tho so couldn't check, but maybe if you hogtie the red one you can deliver them to sheriff?

Yeah, it may have gotten trampled as well.

I was sent flying, then had to shoot the npc in the road before he got me, so I didn't track all of the action.

Since then I've had a snapping turtle carcass knocked off and it retained it's 3 stars (surprisingly it wasn't worth very much so not worth carting around unless you're near a butcher).

Not that big but it's clearly visible. A bit like in selfie mode. I wondered why my character looked so angry. I switched from Gunslinger to Flamboyant walk style. Now she's a happy cowgirl !
