How is Poppy Mitchell on the streets?

If you've experienced the After Hours DLC, there's no doubt that you bumped into Poppy Mitchell at some point. But the last time we saw her back in 2013, she lead Franklin on a crazy reckless car chase where she wrecks her car and gets convicted for drunk driving. If GTA Online takes place after the story, shouldn't Mitchell still be behind bars? Five years does seem like a light sentence for her reckless driving.

 

Now, the Wiki states "apparently [Mitchell] has been released from custody" suggesting that she did indeed serve a sentence. (Ah, those corrupt LSPD) When you first encounter her, she has her lovely pink Cog Cabrio intact too.

 

But consider this: Even though the paparazzo missions are required for 100%, they aren't required to finish the story. Is it possible that the paparazzo missions are non-canon entirely?

 

What do you think happened to Mitchell? Slap on the wrist sentence? Prison break? Retcon? Didn't do the car chases canonically? Discuss.   

Well, disregarding the time shifting (which I really can't be bothered with following), my guess: she's cute, she's...uhhh...willing shall we say, slap on the wrist, or as our UK counterparts might call it: slap and tickle.

Throw in some 'merry go 'round' (shark card) to grease the wheels of justice, and she's 'yet to be' (set free as a bird).

Right guv?

I feel like gta o before gun running was around before you first plays as trevor in sp then everything after gunrunning is set after Michael Trevor and Franklin robs the union depository. Since Ron says something about trevor going vinewood.

Actually she was charged for drunk driving. It's assumed that she doesn't kill anyone canonically during the chase so in most states, the sentence wouldn't exceed 1-2 years, meaning that she would be free naturally come the post-story mode updates. Now if she did end up killing people, the sentence should increase drastically. But she would probably be able to find a way out of serving jail time with her celebrity status...or do some NSFW action to the officer as you implied. 

 

To the OP, you do realize those car chases you see on TV usually don't have such long jail sentences, especially if the driver is a celebrity?

Rockstar used to be known for their great stories and timelines. Rockstar themselves have said that GTA Online was initially set a few months before Story Mode. Cue the Gunrunning Update, and the timeline suddenly skips ahead to 2017, leaving many anachronisms in its wake. Rockstar f*cked up a timeline and people are bitter that they would do that to this day.

I'm not to sure about this. I've always felt that GTA:O may have started before Story, but that there was always been things that coincided with it.

For instance, Lester has a couple of contact missions that directly correlate to some of his dialogue and scenarios from single player.

There is a mission where you need to help move Diamonds out of state (corresponds to SP jewelry store heist).

You rob a heist crew for explosives underneath the reserve (SP main heist)

And he has you distract a bunch of cops so another heist crew can commit a robbery (in single player Lester mentions he has a crew that can distract the cops for the crew).

I'm sure there is more, but that is what I can think of now. 

 

So two things I've taken from this.

1. Lester is a piece of sh*t that works both sides

2. Single player and Online roughly coincide with each other.

I mean, it's a rip off of the same state that let OJ's lawyers turn a murder case into a fiasco, he didn't even get charged for leading the cops on a wild goose chase even.

Thats why i love it to live here in germany.  Justicia is really blind over here. A famous former footballer ( wotld and european champion ) and, at this time0 president of the most famous football club in germany ( Bayern Munich) were sent to jail for three years for Tax fraud.  Another actual Germany international had to pay 600.000 €  for driving a car without licence

Poppy is essentially a parody of Lindsay Lohan. Looking at Lohans long history of offenses , Poppy was assigned rehabilitation and alcohol education classes for 5 weeks and was put on probation for 90 days.

I think the time line coincides because some things, most of the heists etc., were originally planned for SP but, for whatever reason, ended up online. 

 

And Lester isn't the only two faced PoS in the game:

 

Tony: "Hey partner, how about moving some of that product from the basement?" 

Me: "Sure Tony, I'm on it." 

Tony: *texts all players in the session to tell them there is a sale happening and to steal or destroy it.*
