My experience with GTA Online

Recommended Posts

I have played GTA 5 extensively offline - loved it. Played every GTA since GTA 1.

Haven't played online until recently.

My experience:

- wait 30 min startup (this is no joke and I have a up-to-date PC)

- 10 min: get killed by guys with flying rocket bikes

- google

- activate PvP off

- see 1000 icons

- join some heist

- wait 15 min

- team dissolves

- try 3 more times

- same result

- every time I waste about 20 min

- try retarded LD mission

- at some point 20 guys attack from every direction

- no way to take cover, always dead after 3 seconds

- Tab out to google some stuff

- I am now offline

- rejoin takes 5 min

--> quit

Seriously I really want to love this game.

But I have tried several times to get into GTA online and every single time it resulted in wasting about 2-3 hours of my live without accomplishing anything useful.

It's frustrating.

oh, apparently you can't edit your posts here.

While typing the above text I timed out and was sent to GTA offline.

- try to rejoin onlline

- wait 5 min

- you timed out

Well that sucks dude. Others will help you more but I think you shouldn't join a public session until you know your way around a bit. Start up an invite only session. Connection is easier. Steal a few cars, buy a garage, set spawn to there. Steal a few more cars buy a special carbine. You could do those two the other way around. Heists do take forever to start. Players will leave for many reasons. A low rank player joining being one of them. Until you know some people avoid them. Find a friendly crew in the recruitment section. And off you go. Oh! And use passive if you want. No shame in that when you're new to online.

Public lobbies on PC are a nightmare now, mod menu users can do horrible things to you.

I'd advise you to stay away from public lobbies on PC.

You have successfully unlocked the secret of GTAO.

It's designed to be frustrating.

Unless you grind forever, or pay out real money.

And even then it's still frustrating.

And this.../\

Use solo public lobbies  (here's how:https://www.reddit.com/r/gtaonline/comments/4n8094/tip_if_you_are_on_pc_block_these_ports_using_your/ ), or find some friends for invite only play.

Use the invite-only sessions or "solo public session" trick to take take your time and discover things at your own pace. It's a sort of "online" in a form of offline. You wont get distracted by other players.

Question the tips you recieve from other people (including this forum). Everyone has their own style, there are no rights or wrongs.

Question the game objectives (like "destroy the player's cargo", etc).

You may not have a pleasant experience with the game, but try at least to log in every day during the holidays. Especially, Christmas and the New Year's Eve.

You may recieve some useful gifts

Don't rush spending money (everything in online will lure money away from you), but don't rush into grinding money as well. There is no item in this game that is "must have".

You CAN enjoy the game without investing too much into it (either money or time).

DO NOT purchase an appartment or a garage or at least delay the purchase. You can store cars in the business properties. Having no appartment allows you to evade the bills.

Google "VIP Work" and take advantage of being a VIP.

DO NOT rush buying an office. You can be a VIP forever without having one.

DO NOT rush purchasing a Buzzard. There are better alternatives and there is a potential chance to get one for free during holidays, if i'm not mistaken.

wait 30 min startup

This is completely unrelated to your PC or to the Rockstar severs. The 30 minutes startup is caused by other players in the session. This is the Peer-2-Peer game and the other player connection DOES affect your loading time.

If you have a hard time loading, use "solo public session" trick right in the middle of the loading screen (loading screen, black screen or the clouds), all the players will leave and the environment will load up in seconds.

see 1000 icons

You can hide them using the "interaction menu". Google what it is and how to use it. It's the most important menu in online.

Also, google how to use the phone in online.

Hey Guys,

thanks a lot for the replies!

I already have a small appartment and a decent car. Read some Newcomer Guide and it was recommended.

Merry Xmas.

So, if we chisel down this manicured B&M, it comes down to "I want to love this game, but I spend 2-3 hours not enjoying it."

The solution is very simple: don't play it.

I'm not being churlish or sarcastic – I sincerely mean it. Don't play it.
When I get into that funk where I'm not enjoying my experience with GTAO (or anything, really) I change my scene.

It's useless to drone about it online to people who, while they understand your plight, are averse to hearing others complain about it.
We've all been there and most of us just deal with it.

I recommend learning to play a new instrument. Guitar, ukulele, flute, etc.

I made a meme to explain how to start this game solo, rank up the first 100 lvl without depending upon other players. New players should also explore their interaction menu by themselves. This is important.

For now play in Invite-Only, make yourself more familiar with the map if its not the case(example, try to remember where are subway entries, very useful both in PvE to escape cops quickly as in PvP).

VIP jobs are the best to rank up fast without interactions(good or bad) with other players. Plus they pay better than Contact Missions, and no loading time since its available in Invite-Only, though there is a cooldown between missions.

Register as VIP, open your Interaction menu(,), look for VIP vehicles.

And start a mission. I resumed it.

^ That's an awesome creator trick! Getting the Buzzard and learning to fly effectively it is literally step one for lower ranked players. It's a guaranteed money maker.

Buzzard is essentially a VIP/CEO's bread and butter. Once you have learned to efficiantly fly it, VIP Work will be a breeze.

Fast, nimble and efficiant.

But I need 1.000.000 $ in the Bank to become a VIP, correct?

I can imagine people asking themselves why they spent money to go from dealing with modders on the 360 to dealing with modders on the PC.
