Just to the east of the oil fields in New Hanover. Pretty much put a marker on the "H" I normally find herds around there. 👍

It‘s pretty bugged out. Was riding over a hill through the great plains and could see a herd of them, and within a splitsecond they all disappeared and a camp of another posse appeared while I was riding through it.

This should be fixed, I guess... or I hope so at least

I haven't seen them in West Elizabeth online yet but I've seen them there plenty of times.

Non Funkable Token

You mean bisons? They're where some people pointed out, normally.

Buffalos are from Africa and Asia tho, don't try to find them in RDO.

To be honest, they shouldn't even be there at all. These animals were hunted to near extinction well before the end of the 19th century. Every source I can find states that there were as few as a hundred of them left in the wild by 1889. In that year a study was published detailing the extermination of the species and how close they were to extinction as a result of only a couple decades of unrestrained hunting.

Now, all of that is in our world of course. R* didn't set Read Dead in our world, but in some strange parallel version of it that's similar but also different.

In Red Dead Redemption 1 it's a thing to kill all remaining buffalos. There is even a trophy for doing it.  (RDR2 story happens before RDR1)

Well thats not exactly true. The species Bison bison is also colloquially called American Buffalo or Buffalo. But there is not a single Genus or Species called Buffalo.

What you‘re referring to is the Asian Water Buffalo, which is a species of the Genus Bubalus!

EDIT: american buffalo/buffalo is also just a colloquial name. So if you want to look at it from a zoological angle, the bison is no buffalo, but neither is any other species.

Bison yea i've found them around great plains and in the new hanover region. Be careful when hunting though as they despawn fairly quickly when you move away from a dead bison.

This is another inaccuracy. You shouldn't have to move away from a dead one. When attacked, bison typically group up around the injured or dead animal and then defend themselves as a herd.

This was one of the reasons they were such easy prey for humans. What worked wonderfully against most natural predators ended up just serving up whole herds at a time to humans.

It's too bad too, as it would have been quite fun trying to hold off (and eventually slaughter) an entire herd of bison because you shot one and figured they'd all run away instead of grouping up and trampling you to death. That would have been an "Oh Sh*t!" moment to remember.
