Missouri Fox Trotter vs Turkoman RDO

I can't decide between the two.

Which horse do you like best?

From what i can find on the internet.

-The fox trotter is more skittish than the turkoman. So turkoman must be better for predator hunting and shootouts? Less tripping and better aim in tense situations.

-The fox trotter is a comfortable ride. Less gun sway while riding? Sounds good for pvp and deer hunting right?

-turkoman health +2

-fox trotter stamina +1

Imo health isn't very important.

-speed and acceleration is the same.

The turkomans coats are horrible. One looks like C-3PO, one like a herring and one like the inside of a public toilet.

The turkoman is taller, which I like, but it looks as thin as the scrawny nag from behind.

I got myself Missouri Fox Trotter with lvl 60 saddle. I still have to check how level 4 bonding is going to influence skittishness. I don’t mind if it runs away from bears or cougars, but snakes are annoying.

On SP I really liked the Fox Trotter. But it started to bother me because it is kinda skittish like OP mentioned. I wanted to get myself a Turkoman to try it but never found one on that Saint Denis spot, lol (yeah I’m cheap af :D).

That said I’m really enjoying the Thoroughbred (UE). Its not as scared as I thought it would be, it’s pretty fast and have enough health. I still havent tried any other horse online yet tho, so I dont know how it compares to the Fox Trotter and the Turkoman, but it seems less skittish than the SP Fox Trotter in my experience.

Dark Bay Turkoman here. Looks great to me. Might get a Fox Trotter down the line to use in certain situations but for now I have zero problems with the Turk.

Why not get both? Depending on situation.

You got me thinking. I already got a Hungarian that is perfect for predator hunting and shootouts. Might go with the fox trotter then.

What i'm really curious about tough, is it noticable, that aiming from the fox trotter has less sway while riding? Noticed that i often have a hard time hitting someone on a stagecoach in the head while chasing them on my hungarian.

Yeah its not so bad actually. Just got a proper look at it today in daylight.

Fox Trotter 'seems' to be as skittish as a Thoroughbred. Potentially, more so. Without us having stats it's hard to say for sure.

Turkoman however, war horse, doesn't spook as easily. BUT, also a stroppy little sh*t who will mess around sometimes because uuughhh standing still is boooring...this canter is borrrriiiing, im sooooooo bored and sh*tty right now. Least that's how mine were in SP. They liked to go fast and had a tantrum when they weren't.

IMHO, the Turkoman was the best combination of good qualities in the game. Stupidly fast, fearless, damn-near limitless stamina, and healthy health bar.

Missouri Fox Trotter(Race/Work) has a good temperament, acceleration, and health, with great stamina and the best top speed,.

Turk(Race/War) has one of the best temperaments, good acceleration and stamina, with great health and speed.

Arabian(Race/Race or Superior) has the worst temperament, great stamina, health, and speed, with the best acceleration.

In Single Player, the Fox Trotter is probably your best bet unless you ride your horse straight into gun battles all the time.

In Red Dead: Online, having a Turk might actually be a better choice since all the other non-warhorses seem to spook much easier in Online.

So have we decided which horse is better? I have 38 gold bars to spend on one of these. I love the look of the fox trotter but if it spooks just as easily as the free Arabian then idk... The turkoman doesn't really appeal to me in terms of looks and stamina but if it's fast and doesn't spook then it's a deal I think.

Imo it's not worth it to spend gold on horses beside Black Arabian (just because it's black).

It seems like the turkoman is ahead.

I like the looks of the fox trotter better as well, but i'm gonna go with the brown/black turkoman.

The silver version looks cool in the stable, but it shines like a fish when you bring it out in sunlight.

Turkoman was my favorite horse is SP and will purchase one online when I unlock it.  The Fox trotter was good in SP too, but a little small for my liking.  Turkoman is a good sized horse

Personally I like the "... champagne" better. Both look better than all the turkomans though

Depends on the size of your character. I always preferred Arthur on a big horse yet John to me feels better on a smaller one.

Really hope they will at some point introduce a mechanic that allows us to train any horse to improve their speed or skittishness a little further.

Otherwise all the basic horses just won't have any use. Which is a shame because I really like the look of some but they're just not practical.

I hate the arabian. I was thinking it was the best due to it's speed but it gets scared too easily and looks like a pony in comparison to other horses.

Turkoman all the way, baby. Still can't get one in online, im lv 50, but I used it a lot on SP and it's a very reliable horse. Great speed, health, temperament and acceleration. Also it's so f*ckin big and the brown coat looks great.

Meanwhile im using the Andaluz for Free Roam and Story Missions, and the Free Arabian just for the races.

All arabians are sh*t. Please, we're talking horses here, not ponys. Keep your arabian at home.

Even some of the earliest purchasable horses beats the red arabian in every way. Sure the other 2 are quick, but really thats their only +.

Ppl look like idiots on the arabians. The more expensive your arabian was, the bigger the idiot you look like😂

I don't really think you're very well informed, but here goes:

https://uk.ign.com/wikis/red-dead-redemption-2/Red_Dead_Online_Horses

Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter 58 $950 Multi 50 60 70

50

Silver Turkoman 60 38 Gold Bars Multi 70 50 60 50

Black Arabian 70 42 Gold Bars Superior 60 60 60 60

The stats are health, stamina, speed and acceleration.

Fox trotter has lowest health. Turkoman has most health. Black arabian has middle ground.

Fox trotter and black arabian have most stamina. Turkoman has less stamina.

Fox trotter has most speed. Turkoman and black arabian have same speed.

Fox trotter and turkoman have less stamina. Black arabian have most stamina.

Reasons why I prefer black arabian:

  1. I don't roam around free roam much at the moment. So just one horse is enough.+1
  2. Black arabian has the most balanced stats IMO between the turkoman and foxtrotter, but still amongst highest stats. +1
  3. The black coating suits my character's clothing as I tend to wear mostly black and white. +1
  4. Superior handling means it would avoid and dodge obstacles such as trees and rocks more easily than elite handling from turkoman and fox trotter. I tend to take shortcuts a lot and more prone to accidents. Think of superior handling as insurance. +1
  5. I rather not hunt or enter gun fight while I'm on my horse. So the temperment barely matters. +1
  6. I rather go from point one to another quite quickly, so the highest acceleration stat is great. +1

It's personal preference, whatever suits you. But at some point, I might as well get turkoman and fox trotter later on down the road.

You just scared my Arabian by saying "Arabian" too loudly.

Despite the fact that they look like baby horses, and they're kinda useless in a firefight (or if there's a predator within half a mile), the purchasable Arabians are decent due to their speed/acceleration and handling. The red, freebie Arabian is better than the starter horses, but doesn't hold a candle to the ones that cost actual money.

Like you said, it's all about personal preference. And my personal experiences with Arabians has been the worst out of all the horses. The Arabian just isn't for my playstyle.

Unfortunately, this is not what Superior handling means. The acceleration is what makes the Arabians handling "Superior," you can turn in any direction, at any time, and pick up speed very quickly which in turn means you can maneuver quickly in general on an Arabian. However, it does not mean your Arabian will automatically dodge or jump over more things better than any other horse. The horses in Online already jump on their own over fking everything, even things they don't need to jump over. I've seen horses jump for no reason while running down a straight path, I've been crossing a narrow bridge and accidentally turned my camera angle slightly only to have my horse automatically jump off the bridge. The automatic horse jumping and dodging has actually been annoying the sh*t out of me since RDR2 launched. Sometimes it can be useful for that rock/log hidden in the bush, but it honestly makes me feel like I'm not even in full control of my horse.

You're part of maybe 30-35% of gamers that play that way, the majority of gamers use their horse for everything and temperament is incredibly important if you do. I figured that out in Single Player a long time ago and there wasn't even PvP then. My Arabian was so fast and fun to ride, but it would freak out over everything.. I'd be riding peacefully down a path and all of the sudden the horse would just start making noises and shaking her head around and if I let that go on too long without tapping the Calm button, it would slow down or buck me off it's back. When riding around, predators can randomly pop out at any time, the Arabians acceleration and maneuverability becomes useless when it can't be fully controlled especially when it automatically runs diagonally from the danger, straight into a dilapidated fence flipping Arthur into the mud(the camera also auto aims at the threat/predator which further obstructs your control and view)... Or a snake or badger 15 feet away decides to exist at the exact moment I'm riding by and my Arabian gets scared and slightly moves to the left directly into the passing wagon-driver.... There were times I would try to mount my Arabian and if gun shots are going off, it will keep running away.. Whistle>>Arabian comes slowly trotting>>Gun shot in distance>>Arabian runs away>>whistle, whistle>>Arabian turns and slowly walks to you>>gun shot, gun shot>>Arabian runs back again>>Whistle, whistle, whistle>>mission failed because whoever got away. I remember doing a train robbery with my black Arabian, and we were naturally getting shot at, well my horse didn't like this so it freaked out a bit and "accidentally" ran into the side of the moving train killing itself and Arthur..

I understand not everyone is going to go through all the same issues I did, but none the less, my experiences with Arabians haven't been the best lol Once I switched to the Fox Trotter/Turk, I NEVER ran into those problems again and I never looked back at the Arabian since. But with Online, it appears all of the non-warhorses are more skittish.. Fox Trotter and Arabian might be better suited to being strictly Race horses if the Turk is still reliable and fearless like it was in Single Player.

@Ektope Skittishness of Arabians is terrible, so stats doesn’t really matter that much. It’s pretty good overall, but only in safe enviroment and as you know RDO isn’t safe. Any gunshots around unmounted Arabian means you have to chase it. Crossing rivers near Saint Denis equals you being eaten.

Anyway I’m gonna buy one too. Idk if it’s gonna be a white or a black one yet (just to fit some outfits)
