I have to say that putting time restrictions as a requirement for gold is truly a terrible design choice, an cheapens the core expirence.  I know... I know, many of you have already completed the story , an have made your way to the online portion. It's just that, I enjoy experiencing the whole thing, regardless how many times I've seen a cutscene or heard a conversation, cause sometimes you could see or hear something you yet to expirence. An to basically force us to skip something kinda demeans all the hard work that went into such a masterpiece. Again, this is just the opinion of a 40 something gamer who felt obligated to say something, even if basically nothing will ever change.

Thanks for your time, an happy holidays!

I agree. Being constructive, surely they could pause the mission timer while a cutscene was playing so it wouldn’t matter if you skipped it or not.

Im vaguely familiar with GTA natives and they have functions like

is_cutscene_playing

and

start_timer / stop_timer

IMHO opinion it would take someone 30 minutes of scripting at R* to add this - it wouldn’t require whole new functions to be created.

Hell, it would be minimal effort to patch this in. Someone will no doubt say this should go in the constructive criticism thread, but it’s such an obvious and easy fix that’s been present in R* titles since TBOGT I don’t know why the don’t add it.

This issue needs to be more in the spotlight for those of us who are both trophy hunters and like the plot. It means I can’t go for gold in my first play through pretty much.

I just ignore the challenges. Ruins the immersion and overall enjoyment of the game and narrative for me personally. Never liked it since they added it in TLAD and BOGT.

Of course that's not an option if you're a completionist. If that's the case I would advise a second playthrough for the 100% so you can enjoy the game and do the missions your way.

I havnt gone for any gold medals and don't think I got any. It ruins the gameplay experience as you rush missions because of the time limits and miss out on a lot of the conversations you have with people while traveling on horse and picking up notes/letters from dead npcs. It also semi spoils a mission if you read the gold requirements before hand.

I hate the time requirements, feels like they are trying to get me to speedrun every single mission. Even worse is that we now have to do all the objectives in one go and that doesn't help when having other objectives like accuracy and don't get hit thrown in the mix.

Wait...whut?  There's Medals?!?!?!?!

Just kidding.  I ignore them myself as well.  Occasionally I look when it prompts me to do so at end of mission but I really do not care-I play for me, not some Electronic ?Trinket that gives me no in-game benefits and I do not care how I compare to everyone else playing.

That's the big issue here, you get NOTHING for getting gold anyway! If we unlocked something super-badass for doing so, I'd consider trying for gold during a later playthrough.

I find it very annoying rockstar keep using 'you should take your time with this game' basically as an excuse for how slow, clunky, and time-delayed the controls are. Yet AT EVERY POINT in the game, it's telling you to HURRY UP HURRY HURRY HURRY!! Just get off your horse to loot a dead body in a mission - "HURRY UP ARTHUR WHAT ARE YOU DOING GET ON YOUR HORSE YOUR GOING THE WRONG WAY WE HAVE TO GO, GO GO NOW GO HURRY ARTHURRRRRR!!!!

Oh.... an rockstar needs to get their sh*t together an understand that one missed shot from a gun doesn't drop your accuracy to below 80%. As a Competitive Rifle shooter, I was showing some friends the other day the 2nd mission in the prologue, an he missed just 1 shot from the pistol, but all others hit. However.... upon looking at the after mission report, the complete with at least 80% accuracy was unchecked. Pure stupidity...., but I myself come to expect that from a freemason company such as RS.

RockStar have made a number of errors regarding the animals and firearms in RDR2 that imply a lack of education, or real world experience, or both.

One of the most glaring mistakes is that Arthur Morgan has his finger on the trigger whenever he is cleaning (polishing, not proper cleaning) his firearms.

Another glaring error is that RockStar treat Cougars and Panthers as two different animals, but these are just two of many commonly used names for the Puma (sic. Puma concolor)

A less obvious mistake; RockStar has the hand crafted split-point ammo (a.k.a. Dun-Dum's, IRL) as more accurate and less damaging than the regular ammo they are made from. However, in the real world, the reverse is true; hand made Dum-Dum's are less accurate and do more damage than the bullets they were made from. Increasing the damage is the purpose of splitting the point.

Then, of course, is the stupid firearm loadout switching and changing every time Arthur farts.  That's been bitcvhed about ad-nauseum bt it is still extremely aggravating.

went to kill some O'Driscoll's with Sadie.  Had pre-set the weapons I wanted to carry but sure enough, right before it starts when I have to follow her, I recheck and VIOLA!  Everything is messed up or missing.  Trtied to whistle horse over and it ran away then, when I got it close the Mission 'Failed' cvause poor Sadie was killed in the 3.2 seconds I was changing things back to my war loadout.

Also..... aside from all that has been mentioned in my original post, is the EXTREMELY TIGHT time limits when forced to skip cutscenes. I just replayed the mission with Hosea where u are introduced to the Legendary Animals, an skipped everything, was able to track the bear no problem in the necessary time frame, BUT the fact that Hosea f*ckIN WALKS to the area to trigger the bear are up too much time an it caused a Silver. Now .. I know to most who have read this thread, these gripes may seem pretty an childish, but when your a trophy/achievement hunter like most of us gamers are, they make sense in the grand scheme of it all. I'm a story based gamer at heart, but when you sacrifice gameplay like RS seems to have done with RDR2, it can lead to even worse decisions in the long run. Though... as I've said before, when your a freemason company, as is RS. You tend to put profits ahead of what your consumers deserve.

I never saw anything to indicate there was a Time Limit on these things until after I did them and got the poup to review the Mission and see the Award.  Some of those time limits are rediculou-to do them one has to speedrun thru the Mission-in my case due to vision issues that's impossible [[Heck there are soe parts I simply had to Skip because I could not see anything-the running from the Pinkertons in the cave.  For me it was pitch black with bright splotches of light where the torches are.  Not even doable yet the Pinkertons have no issue shooting me to ribbons as I run into walls and fall off of cliffs.]]  But, dismissing my issues how does one know the time limit before doing the mission and, if you've not done it then one has no clue exactly where to go anyway.

As far as it being a Freemason company-not sure how that plays.  I know some people who are FM's and overal they are good people tho they tend to not associate with certain races or people and I saw a lot of Indians [[Dot not Feather]] and what appeared to be Muslims in the credits as wel]]  as the Black folks in-game [[Lenny for instance and some of the Blacks in the game were *very* unrealistic for the time period.  [[and to those I might have offended-get the hell over it, it was a bad time for many people of many races and the game SJW Whitewashed it to not 'Offend' people who have a hard time with reality.]].

I also notice there is a ton of Pagan/Satanist/Macabre stuff hidden in the game-not saying similar stuff was not around at the time but it seems a bit more than strange that it is in nearly every ot of the way spot you stumble into but you can pick up Prostitutes...

When I made that Freemason comment, I was implying that most (though good people, an am personally related to a few) are most money driven individuals, race/religion have nothing to do with it. An given RS is a company, it is my opinion that they are driven to turn a profit at all cost, even if they must sacrifice what makes their customers happy. Regarding the content you were referring to, they were at one time thought to be FM symbols of their beliefs an practices (dating back to the 17/18 hundreds, though throughout history many FM have spoken out that those beliefs an practices have changed. Never the less, back on topic though... yes, I myself am one-handed, an working the PS4 controller can be a challenge at times, but still these requirements either need to be nerfed, or at least made stackable. Heck, it's not like they would be stealing the tech, as they did this for GTA V an it took absolutely nothing away from either the story (first run) or its replay ability.

I struggle to think how one could complete Angelo Bronte A Man of Honor in under 10:40

The majority of the mission time is spent waiting on John f*cking Marston to slow walk his ass to the graveyard.  Where's the urgency, f*cko? Your kid has been captured!

I don't think John was ever real attached to Jack and Jack certainly becomes a morose little b***h as the game progresses and into RDR1.   I'd have pitched him off a cliff myself.

I think John didn't want to lose his p****y.  Heck, Jack might not even be his-could be Pierson's or Dutch's for all we know.

I think John did love Abby by the end but even in the end sequences and RDR1 he never really showed a lot of "Son!  Let's go FISHING!" except when Abby told him to.  Otherwise Jack was anothing complaining mouth to feed like Uncle-he did not hate him but would have been fine if he waddled off and never came back.

Hell, wife and I have a roomie here I feel like that about-don't hate him, he has some little usefulness but, if he went Away I would not miss him and only think about him while dealing with cleaning up his messes for the last time.

I completely agree. Headshots, accuracy, different approaches and whatnot are fine. But forcing us to rush through a mission makes it boring as sh*t. Forcing us to take some choices (killing instead of sparing) and whatnot like in GTA V is f*cking trash too. It's incredibly lazy.

In TBoGT, there wasn't an issue with cutcenes since it didn't count the time, but I still hated how I had to rush through the missions.

I'm generally against the rating system as a whole. It's still incredibly poorly implemented. Games like Assassin's Creed used to do this sh*t correctly, where bonus objectives would be displayed during the mission. Somewhere in the UI. You would at least know the requirements as you're playing.

Is it purposefully implemented with information only being divulged after the first playthrough of each mission? Probably. But that doesn't make it any less annoying.

I actually found the gold very easy for that mission lol. Instead of walking to the gate at the end of the mission, jump over the wall when you reach the corner of Brontes mansion and you skip the gate cutscene going straight to jack running to John. Also you don't have to hitch your horse with John. Just stay close enough to him until he starts getting off his horse then you can get off yours. Also go into 1st person holding a  sidearm while walking in the graveyard to walk faster.

One of the first times in gaming coming across time constraints in a mission I thought it meant "Take absolutely as long as you possibly can take" but that was Manhunt ps2. No wonder I couldnt get gold on a certain mission! Rdr2 chapter 2..towards the end was the first time I tried to get gold.. Still failed the time req..because of the cutscene.

So my advice for now is about Shot Accuracy - be mindful of when your enemy dies. Your first shot may have killed them and if you dead eye him/her then, well, your next 5 shots went into a dead body! Hence your accuracy is now 20%

If you did this on multiple enemies even with a repeater doing 2 shots your probably finishing missions at 50% accurate... Regardless of how many targets you can tag.. You can always deactivate dead eye and not fire...

Good luck for now...

Just outta pure curiosity ... Any guesses as to when or even IF we will see a patch for the SP? After nearly 3 months, an 3 complete restarts I've finally finished the story, an gotta say RS definitely did a superb job from a narrative standpoint with this one! However, I'm tryin for the 100% an still have a lotta mopping up to do, an there are gang camps still stuck at either 2/3 or 3/4, an as an OCD sufferer, its driving me nuts not being able to find those last few camps, when I have literally scoured the entire map section by section searching.

There are two in the old map that may not be obvious:

Spoiler
Spoiler

Thieves Landing and Fort Mercer.

which might be the ones you are missing.  I saw Red Dots on the first place and rode straight thru because I was in my "Open the map" phase and did not realize it was one and read about the second one.

Thanks bud. What about the Leymone Raiders section? I've scoured it, place red pins at every part I find a camp, which to see my map now, there are more pins than camps. Now, even though there are only 3, it's still stuck at 2/3. I've heard that its glitched which sticks it at the above status, is this still the case?

How far are you into that part? This is after the Rhodes deal:

Spoiler

There is an old Mansion just S.W. of St Denis-it is, as far as I know, the LaMoyne Raiders main headquarters.  You end up there in one Mission and it becomes a new camp later.

Maybe that's it?

I've actually completed that part (Chapter 3), an took over Shady Belle. I thought maybe the one I was missing was the ole abandoned church slightly NW of SB, but again , after looking through my checklist it was still 2/3. Which now bring the number of red pins to 8. Which is clearly more than the number of camps.

I agree.

But I could care less about getting gold on missions or the challenges. They completely ruin the fun. Challenges are way too hard of a grind and most of them completely random to even accomplish, and the time restraints are just stupid. I want to loot bodies and explore, not skip a bunch of stuff trying to do the entire story in under 5 min.

I wonder if someone added up the time restraints how much mission time you would have throughout the story. I'll bet it's a ridiculously low amount of play time.

Completely agree! Few things feel more disheartening in this game then getting through a challenging mission and seeing that little bronze logo pop up because you didn't do it, "right."

This game is truly phenomenal in every major category you can think of: graphics, story, gameplay, sound / music, attention to detail, etc. It just sucks that a handful of tiny things (like mission rankings, fishing, having to constantly change your ammo type if you want anything besides standard shot every time you re-equip a gun, menus in general) detract from it.

RDR2 is one of the greatest games of all time, but the problems like this hold it back from being the definitive king of the hill.

Now the big question is, will we ever see a patch that answers some of these story mode problems? Most likely no I'm sure, cause as history has shown via GTAV/GTAO, rockstar could care less about helping an even listening to their consumers who are story mode only gamers, an it becomes something of a "Buyers Remorse" situation. An that is why I have decided to boycott Rockstar, an as far as I'm concerned, they have lost me as a future customer cause that is terrible business practices.

I've always wondered why they (R*) employs all this time, money and manpower, developing a super rich landscape, NPCs, and wildlife, yet the devs want you to play the mission as fast as humanly possibly, destroying all they just created.

Strange gameplay design...reminds me of late 1980s, early 90s gameplay of a lot of games of the time- the faster it's completed the better.

Good day!
