Which gun to buy next

Hey guys, I have about $1800 and Im trying to figure out which weapon to buy next. I have the varmint rifle, the bolt action, the high roller revolver, the cattleman revolver, the pump action, the carbine repeater and the volcanic pistol. I'm waiting to unlock the sawed off to dual wield with a pistol. I'm level 19 or 20. What gun would you guys buy next?

Thanks guys,

Bo

It's all personal taste really. But the Lancaster is my favorite repeater and my go to weapon to fight against AI.

Agreed on the Lancaster for NPCs... BUT, if you hunt a lot, the Rolling Block (sniper) is actually quite handy. You can take out medium/large game from distance without wrecking the hide (head or neck shot obviously). And hey, it's also handy for dealing with griefers etc... most don't have it, so you can also take them out from range.

Ok great. Lancaster and rolling block it is!

What shotguns would you buy? I'm waiting for the sawed off but I was thinking either the repeating or the semi autonas well...

Thanks,

Bo

Non. Fully upgrade your ability cards before you spend on guns.

I second this. Ability card upgrades are a must. Then worry about additional firepower. It sounds like you're doing pretty well in that department.

I created a post here (which many others have contributed to):

But in short, I'd recommend getting Slow and Steady first.

Other popular cards are The Unblinking Eye, Strange Medicine, A Winning Streak, Peak Condition and Slippery Bastard.

They all have their benefits, it just depends what your playstyle is.

Do you use Dead Eye a lot? If so, I'd go with the second build I wrote of in my post in that topic, or something like it.

Otherwise, pick cards that increase damage whilst rebuilding health.

Pocket fox: why do you only use it against ai? Or do you? And what do you use for PvP and why?

Bo

Repeaters are generally rapid fire and have good range. You can oneshot enemies with any weapon as long as it's a headshot so having a repeater is a good choice. Lancaster repeater is considered the best out of the three.

(btw bo, below a post is the quote option. Click on that and then write your response otherwise the person may not get a notification that you were talking to them or asking them about something)

Same here. I keep using the hell out of it hoping the damage ability will go up!

My first gun IRL was a Winchester Lever-action 30-30. I guess I’m just sentimental.

I had intended to skip the Rolling Block, I was going to wait and get the Carcano when I reached the required level.

So glad I saw your post though, sprung for the Rolling Block and I love it for hunting. The slow reload time doesn't concern me at all, first time headshots are where the money is at.

The extra range also means my horse spooks animals far less frequently too.

It's already well on the way to breaking even. Thanks for the recommendation.

How did you get 1800$ at 19th lvl? I was spending it all the time to get what I want. I recommend you gettig what you find fun, not what is the best.

Me too! I turned 18 in '73 and bought a new one for $80.

But to the OP I wouldn't go crazy on guns, I'd upgrade ability cards first and see what's left.

Honestly, it depends on what you plan on doing with it (PvE?  PvP?).

IMO, my go-to Player vs. Player lineup is this:

  • Schofield Revolver - My favorite pistol because it's the most accurate (and otherwise balanced compared to the other sidearms).  Accuracy is extremely beneficial if you're trying to hit those "snap" headshots.
  • Sawed-off Shotgun - Basically a miniature death sentence if you're only squaring off one-on-one.  Sure, you don't have the ammo capacity like you would with the other regular shotguns, but you'll have more variety of firepower.
  • Lancaster Repeater - Sure, the Lichtfield hits a little harder, but the Lancaster is more accurate, fires faster, and reloads at a quicker clip.  FWIW, they're both great guns...and both are better than the Carbine.
  • Rolling Block Rifle - It's more accurate and has a little better range than the Springfield.  Attach a scope, and you'll be ready to snipe (if need be).

With that lineup, you'll be prepared for all situation (close/medium/long-range combat).

Actually Volcanic Pistol is the most accurate handgun.

Upon further review?  Yep.  You're right.

It's marginal and not worth it though, if one is planning on regulating with a pistol.

No probs... and yea, it has more than paid for itself for me. Given that I can actually just sit on my horse from distance, it actually helps cause I am elevated (better view). Great for everything but small game.. and hey, I haven't had to go near an Alligator in ages lol. And as U mentioned, awesome for taking my time picking out a good buck when on the plains etc. No creeping... just sit back, pick a target and take it out.

As a bonus, also handy with griefers... most of em don't have one so U can battle 'em from range. To be honest, I was putting in some sniper time in Battlefield when RDO came out, so I just grabbed it for the lols. Has worked out great.
