Cyper
I was chocked when i entered armadillo for the first time. Its only dust, dirt and sickness. Not even a sherif - in my game he was killed by some outlaws and ive never seen him again. I noticed that everyone except Hertbert Moon was sick. Makes me wonder. Moon have always been a subject of suspicion and wild speculation. How is that possible that he is fine while everyone else is dying? He is living in the middle of all sickness after all. Also, i found he had a photograph of the strangeman behind him. Did he have that in rdr 1 as well?
oCrapaCreeper
It's likely he made a deal of some sort with the Strange Man. Doesn't really make sense otherwise why he never got sick, and he sounds a bit sketchy when John asks about the picture. Implicitly
The way I personally see it is the strange man would be taken as the Grim Reaper. People suggest god, and or Satan, but to me it's pretty evident he isn't the devil but the Grim Reaper. Out of selfishness Herbert took the choice to benefit himself and the consequence was that two generations of people would suffer with sickness due to Herbert taking a deal to only benefit himself. Thus why he is untouched and healthy while the rest of the town suffers endlessly. Jimbatron
simpjkee
He's a lot less antisemetic in this one too. I'm sure some crazy person in here could come up with some conspiracy theory involving Jews to explain his story.
Cutter De Blanc
I mean, cholera is not generally transmitted from person to person like that, as long as he's boiling his water and not eating contaminated food, and not wallowing around in sh*t, it's not unlikely that he didn't get sick. Since he owns the general store he can buy his provisions from wheeler and rawson, and not have to worry about that crap (literally) Non Funkable Token and CaliMeatWagon

Jimbatron
Spoiler at why Herbet Moon is fine: Visit the shack at Bayall Edge 4 times after hitting 100% completion. There is a painting that will gradually compete to form a picture of The Stange Man - possibly a personification of Death - from RDR 1. In the back left corner there is a map of Armadillo saying “I offered you two generations or happiness - you made your choice”. Moon also has a photo of the Strange Man on the shelf behind him which John comments looks familiar. It’s implied Herbet Moon made some kind of Faustian pact with the Strange Man. If you rob and kill Herbet there is a letter on his person from his estranged Daughter about their grandson - 2 generations, but not happy. As a side point, is there an implication the Aztec gods are more powerful than the Strange Man? Or is RDR Undead Nigthmare and entirely separate universe? It does put a new angle on “not me - I’m Herbert Moon!” He’s not the only confirmed survivor however. The gunstore isn’t open in RDR 2 but it has Jeb Murphy above the door - who is the gunsmith in RDR 1. Perhaps he went away and came back after the epedemic subsided? Doesn’t Marshall Leigh Johnson also mention Cholera as something the town has previously faced and survived in the original game? Deadman2112
@Jimbatron Hmmm Interesting question you raised about... ...the Aztec Gods and the Strange Man. However, regarding undead nightmare... I thought it was implied that it was all a dream? Reveal hidden contents ...the Aztec Gods and the Strange Man. However, regarding undead nightmare... I thought it was implied that it was all a dream? Yes it could be a dream. I think it’s never intended to be explicitly explained how Undead Nightmare fits in. I’ve read you can find Aztec messages in Blackwater from that female goddess in RDR2 though. Perhaps it’s also as simple that the Strange Mans pact only protects Moon from natural things like diseases, not the Undead Hordes! He probably didn’t read the fine print! And I suppose you could argue he’s not technically dead after becoming the Undead. I’m sure the Strange Man has his backside covered legally! Ive always thought that the best explanation is that Undead Nightmare is a fork to alternate realities between “And the Truth Shall Set You Free” and “The Last Enemy That Shall be Destroyed” - in the main game Abraham Reyes never finds the crypt with the mask and in Undead Nightmare he does some time between these missions. If you can buy that then the whole of RDR 2 is canonical with both. Edited December 23, 2018 by Jimbatron Deadman2112
