Can't connect to Social Club, can't even connect to the website

So, I've just created an account here to post what I did that solved this problem for me, and I hope it'll fix for you guys too.

 

I went into my modem configs (that website that you access when you type an IP in the browser search box) and did a factory reset. Mine was in: System > Backup / Restore > Restore Default Settings.

(Don't forget that you'll need to set a new password to your Wi-Fi after the reset).

After the website confirmed it was restoring to the factory settings, I removed the ethernet cable from my computer, I don't know if this is necessary, but I thought I should do it.

Then I went into Windows Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network Reset > Reset Now, waited the 5 minutes and the computer restarted, when it booted I plugged the ethernet cable back in.

 

That's it. This fixed it for me after I tried literally everything.

I really hope this helps you all, it's a really annoying problem. Good luck!

Well I tried pretty much every R* game that uses Social Club and I can't play any of them online GTA 4 even refuses to load my progress thankfully I can continue offline in the later games

OKAY EVERYONE !!! 

i was having a ton of problems after getting new internet and moving... it felt as though i couldn't connect to ANYTHING with social club in its name, not to login, to go to the website, to play the game NOTHING was working.. so i did some trouble shooting, i tried other computers on my network my cell phone,  nothing would connect to the social club site, I determined it was connected and if i could get the site working i could play the game. 

AND I FOUND IT, easy anyone can do. so to get it working ? well if you switch to using data, instead of wifi on your phone the site opens up .. okay thats great and all but how does this help the computer ? well i was thinking, if I went on data on my phone, and usb teathered the connect, of hotspot the data on my computer it would work.. and it did ! the best part? it will use NO data. 

so hot spot  your data to your computer so your computer is using you phones data connection, if your computer isn't wireless USB tether it. go to the site social club on rockstar games.  then start up gta 5. it will connect to social club, let the game load up to where you can move your character.. and then switch to your normal wifi again, and bam ! the game stays working ! no data, no hassle, the only thing is everytime you want to play, you have to switch to data to login that's it it is JUST for the login to social club, after that its fine, it will say saving failed as you are playing, but before you are done playing connect back with you data, and leave the game thats all !

I was poking around for something else and found something that might be applicable here, I think (I am an idiot) that RSGS are cached by Akamai?

 

What does this tool say when you visit, if you're having this problem?

I know this is three years too late, but this is for anyone else who has had this problem. I created an account just for this. I had to uninstall the social club launcher, and via mobile hotspot on my phone, go onto the social club website and reinstall using 68 mb of data on my hotspot. But, once it is installed again, you can switch over to your regular wifi and it should work like a charm.

*NOTE* Let the social club launcher start while still on your phones hotspot, once it is downloaded again and you have the option to start the game you can go on regular wifi

hiya. i got same isssue outta nowhere! i was playing online with friends today and all the sudden social club DCed and i'm no longer able to connect. i was still online and able to join new sessions, but anything related to SC was offline. such as missions and stuff.

same issue as others say. i can't access socialclub.rockstargames.com either, but rockstargames.com works.

 

also very odd thing, is that i'm able to go to rockstargames.com without any proxy, but when doing "ping rockstargames.com" in cmd, then it times out. hmm??

 

I tried messing about with DNS servers. i tried OpenDNS (i always use this), i tried google DNS and some others (based on google, some players got it working with certain DNS).

I have tried other devices, still no go. even tried bluestacks.

 

Only thing i could think of, is using VPN, but i dont have one. i can use TOR on my router, but it would also put everything else via TOR and that's not playable as TOR always has 1-2 second lag, it only works for browsing websites. i tried proxifier to try and force greatstargames via proxy, but on some reason it's not working either.

 

I guess still no solutions? also the greatstar website is total garbage, i wasted 2 hours trying to find a contact form, which doesn't seem to exist. it keeps yanking my chain and pulls me in circles left and right, but no way to contact them. guess billion dollar company like that just dont care about their customers. i'm so frustrated right now.

this is totally useless. i don't have phone nor phone wifi. why would anyone want to use phone if they got 250mbit landline? this makes 0 sense to me why anyone would evne consider using phone for gaming lol. i have high end gaming pc and i would never even think about scrubbing on a tiny phone. therefore i dont even have a phone as its totally useless. i'd never use some primitive phone over high end gaming pc. i have full 4k 32'' monitor with gtx 3080. in fact i find it insulting when people suggest me to use phone over pc! it's like saying go use a horse and chariot instead of car. who owns a horse and chariot nowdays? maybe some peasants in villages?

This happens because limit is set to slow internet connection...

I found only 1 fix for this problem...
Download ProtonVPN and connect to USA servers will fix this, good thing is that ProtonVPN is free so you can use this long time until Rockstar and Epic fix this problem...

you have a high end gaming pc, but lost a lot of common sense. the logic of using a phone as a wifi hotspot for your pc is to temporarily bypass the connection from your pc to your modem/router just to get initial connection to social club website/server. and once connected, you can disconnect from your useless phone and resume connection using your expensive router connected to your high end pc. you have the longest and most stupid comment i have seen. ignorant

I created an account just to post this comment. I agree with everything riven79 says. First off no one cares about mordax high end PC, your 4k monitor, your specs or anything that you run like for real, we. do. not. care.

Well I had that problem. I just verified my network connection. It was public so I've changed it to private and voilá. Hope that help some of you guys...

I'm so f*cking enraged right now, couldn't sign in to R* support and offline mode with rockstar games launcher, installed protonVPN and it's working, without it i get connection timed out and offline mode with R* launcher. So now my dilemma is if it's safe to use ProtonVPN while playing GTAO, can i get banned for that? 

I'm gonna try to restart router later, but somehow i have a feeling it won't help. I really don't wanna play with VPN, but what if i don't have other choice?

Can someone tell me from experience are they using ProtonVPN and is it safe to play GTAO with it.

I'm not using ProtonVpn but u can use a vpn 4 sure. If you play on pc i wouldn't even start up the game without vpn. On console the toxic players cant sniff your ip that easy and as much as i know you cant get banned for a vpn. Ppl even use it so they can have the casino update when its banned in their country

Preffered DNS server : 84.200.69.80

Alternate DNS server : 84.200.70.40

I have to mention that the launcher & their site (https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/rockstar-games-launcher) didn't work at all.

I had this problem some time ago and after writing with rockstar support and giving them all kinds of screenshots and dns configs and so on, i was just able to connect after 3 days of trying everything.
The thing is, it worked before and it stopped working without me doing anything. Therefore the problem must have been on Rockstars or your ISPs side. Changing values in your system isnt doing anything.
I was using ProtonVPN to connect to Rockstar Website. I was also able to connect to GTA Online, but with massive lags (due to limited speed of free VPN).
The internet traffic protocol says my connection hit a firewall at Rockstars servers and was refused. I don't know if they did anything to solve this.

Whenever i get the problem that i can't connect to the R* servers for some reason, i only gotta get myself a new WAN IP adress, this is easy for me because i only got a semi permanent one. I only get a new WAN IP adress, if i restart my router else i can keep my IP adress for months or even years not sure tbh.

 

Of course this doesn't help if ppl got real permanent IP adresses.

 

It sometimes is already enough to just delete the temp and cache files of the social club.

After using that, all you gotta do is sign into the rockstar games launcher again, then it should work.

 

I use cloudflare as dns server primary "1.1.1.1" and secondary "1.0.0.1". That would be this with ipv6 primary "2606:4700:4700::1111" and secondary "2606:4700:4700::1001".

 

But here are many more DNS servers.

Seriously got no idea why some ppl use the standard ISP dns servers, they just spy on ppl and it's slow as f*ck.

Somewhere a while back I posted a tool for checking IPs against Akamai's badlist, I still suspect that's the issue here a lot of the time. Or was it cloudflare. Anyway.
