Cocking One More time

I thought about digging up my old Pre-Cocking topic for this, but it probably counts as a necro-post by now.

 

In an effort to get more XP I've been half-assing my way through showdowns and I've found out two things, one irrelevant to the topic, so I'll get that out of the way right now:

For a player of my skill level, the difference between sneaking around, charging headlong into battle and just casually walking and picking off that one poor bastard that wanders into my line of sight is negligable. My k/d hovers around the same numbers (which I do not feel the need to confess).

 

The second thing is that I've found the cocking of the weapons is done at the wrong time. I could even be an avarage contender if the cocking of a weapon occurred after the shot instead of before it.

I know you should do it yourself by pressing R2 agan after you've fired for authenticity, but it feels counterintuitive. Or sh*tty. R2 is for firing and I don't want to fire twice. Or in this case, feel like I'm about to fire twice.

Then there's my preferred method of quickly doing an aim, but especially when you're in cover this presents an issue of being open to getting shot, as a split second is all the rest of the players need.

Add to it that I keep forgetting to do it anyway and I wind up jack-in-the-boxing out of cover and just pointing a menacing stick at someone while I pull levers and wait for them to comfortably take aim and kill me.

 

Here's where I actually ask you something:

In that last situation, the game automatically cocks the weapon for me, so screw authenticity. Shouldn't the game automatically cock the weapon after I've taken the shot?

You know, when there's a dead body in front of me, instead of a really unimpressed killer bearing down on me.

 

Sidenote concerning authenticty arguement: If I do remember to cock a weapon and then run around one of the enormous maps not shooting anything for a while the gun will uncock anyway and bring me right back to the pointing-situation.

Yeah, I'm kinda torn on this. It adds a nice bit of realism to it indeed. But since there's a point where the game will cock the gun automatically for you, I figure I'd be better off having that point at a different moment. Or maybe even don't auto-cock guns at all then. Leave it up to me at all times and I'm pretty sure I'll remember it next time I pop up.

All puns aside; I do agree with you about resetting the cocking when done right after shooting a while later. 

Even though it seems unnatural at first, tapping the R2 twice is something I've gotten used to by now, saves my life loads of times during Most Wanted showdown series.

You're right though, it's something I'm gonna have to get used to, but damn if it doesn't feel weird.

Worst one is where you remember something about the R2-thing, but aren't aiming and kill the sidewalk straight from the hip.

I personally hate how I pull out my shotgun to shoot someone only to get shot because my dude had to put 2 slugs in, just automatically load my damn gun already it's a game

I've been slowly going through the descriptions for the guns. There's some funny stuff in there, but it's a lot more to read than a sales pitch for a Bravado Gauntlet.

Unless I misunderstand you, isn't that already happening? I don't really use the double barrel, outside of Showdowns, but with the BAR and the Carbine I get a full mag everytime I take it off my shoulder.

I do a quick tap on L2 to load the next bullet, it becomes really easy and automatic after a while, at least for me.

Yeah, that's how I do it and it works okay while moving about, but I prefer operating from cover where L2 will, as designed, pop you up and I've found that even in that short moment there are some Showdown fanatics that find it more than enough time.

I believe it's done on purpose, so people with cover are not unkillable. If you could peek and shoot instantly in p2p based game, you win 99% of your fights. Noone would leave their cover.

Yeah, I saw it when I typed it. I thought about writing it out, but then I thought "what if the BAR is somehow related to the Bolt Action Rifle?"

And then I thought "It's almost five in the bloody morning and all my f*cks to give are already in bed", so I left it. Look at me being a rebel.

I always tap L2 after a shot as well. Never been shot because of that while taking cover. If thats a problem for you, just slowly back up, so not in 'cover-mode' and cock it with L2

1. My original statement was in relation to another dude misspelling the word "axe". They spelled it "aks".

2. I was taking the piss (that means a joke for non Aussies).

3. You missed the point completely and decided to give me a history lesson on the AK-47. (Which, by the way, you took from the first paragraph of the Wikipedia entry).

Don’t really get the issue with cocking. You can use RT/R2 or you can release LT/L2 (just a quick release and press it again). Both work and you can use the method you like.

worst part is when i shoot vut the character repeats first and shoots later. i dont need a late shot! dont shoot at all! let me pull the trigger for the shot.   its really stupid!  shooting in rdr2 feels bad. unreaponsive. i dont feel in control of my shots.
