That's because we went from zero gay characters in anything to like 5% of them being gay.  If you actually counted, almost all the characters in most movies, shows and games are still very hetero.

I think the same thing when people complain about Sadie and how "unrealistic" she is.  First of all, there's not much realism in Red Dead anyway. But second of all, she's the only female character like that in a game with so many characters.  Mary, Karen, Mary Bath, Tilly, Mrs. Downes, Miss Grimshaw, the list goes on... the game is full of "regular" women almost top to bottom, but just one of them is able to hold her own and suddenly it's another meltdown about the SJWs again.  Tiresome.  Just realize we're going through a sea change and it's not the end of the world - and if it feels sometimes like they're being aggressive about it, it's probably because most of the last hundred years you basically weren't allowed by the various entertainment industries to do any such thing.  To me it's kind of nice to have something different.  I've got dozens of classic movies and games about tough male cowboys and the women they protect; finally playing a game where a girl is tough and/or the hero and/or gay doesn't bother me at all.

Yeah yeah. Don't bait. I don't wanna get banned.

@Nutduster I don't have a problem with Sadie. R* is one of the few devs left who doesn't put up with this sh*t.

"A record-high 7.3 percent of people born between 1980 and 1998 who now identify as LGBT—up from 5.8 percent in 2012. (This new data reinforces a 2015 conclusion from the Public Religion Research Institute that “7 percent of millennials identify either as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender,” based on a survey of 2,000 adults.)" - https://www.thedailybeast.com/just-how-many-lgbt-americans-are-there

"The research conducted by Glaad, an LGBTQ media advocacy organization, found that 4.8% (43) of the characters expected to appear on primetime scripted broadcast TV will be LGBTQ, a record in the 21 years it has been tracking such numbers. " - https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2016/nov/03/lgbt-characters-tv-largest-percent-glaad-study

So, according to these studies, about 7% of people identify as LGBT and 4.8% of characters in primetime TV identify as LGBT. I imagine LGBT representation in video games is even lower. Video games have some catching up to do to accurately represent the world.

Though I agree with you on TLOU 2.I mean we know she is a lesbian but why should they throw it in our f*cking face in a gameplay trailer. It's like they wanna force their ideas through your skull.

Your reaction that seeing a lesbian kissing scene is them "throwing it in (your) f*cking face" seems to be an indication that you abhor it. People tend to abhor seeing behaviors in others that they are trying to repress in themselves. I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

I've watched the trailer multiple times and have never had that reaction. I wanted to know more about the woman Ellie kisses, what their relationship is, and how awesome it is going to be to shoot explosive arrows at enemies.

The story would constantly allude to something great and interesting and then rip that apart in the next mission. I understand that was the point of the story but don't cheat the player out of something great.

Wonder how long this thread will stay opened. 🙄

Seriously, it blows my mind that in 2018, people are still getting so offended by a lesbian couple kissing, that they call it “throwing it in your face”. I mean, whether you like it or not, there are gay people in the world and they deserve to be represented fairly. They watch the same movies, they play the same games, they are no different than you and me. If that bothers you, I’m sorry, but that’s progress. It’s not a bad thing, it’s not “SJWs ruining everything we love”, and it sure as hell won’t change the gameplay experience.

Oh gotcha. My apologies I thought you were referring to the kiss in TLOU2 trailer. I tend to agree with you though. The constant "I have a plan" and then the plan falling apart was a little redundant. By the end, I knew to expect that something would go wrong and the story would veer off in another direction. The veering off that led to Chapter 5 on Guarma was alittle too far out there for me. I could have done without that whole chapter.

I never felt that at all.

I saw Dutch for the fake that he was and was just wandering how long the gang would need to realize it too.

you have completely misunderstood the debate here. no problems with anyone being gay if its pertinent to the story. in the case of Ellie the problem is not that she's a lesbian but that's she's an adult. The sense of protecting the little girl which replaced your own daughter and just barely surviving by the skin of your teeth is now gone. Now you play as a grown up ellie killing zombies which has been done to death and is not innovative nor interesting.

You are all walking on eggshells right now.

Stay on topic. Pretty sure OP didn't ask anyone for their opinion on video game character sexual preferences.

I finished the game a few days ago, and OMG, this game is a masterpiece. It's been a really  long time since I've played a game this good (the last good one I played before this was Mafia III), but now, R* Games amazed me again.

Best game of the last 20 years for me.

But I can understand why some people disagree. There's not much sense of progress, or levelling up, and the missions are very easy. I'm still only on chapter three (taking my time) but so far no mission has been so difficult that i've had to retry it more than 2 or 3 times. Most missions can be completed on first go.

None of that really matters to me, though. I want immersion, and it gives me immersion in spades.

I agree. It's the most complete open-world game I could've ever hoped for. However, for me, 'Best' is a flexible term on a personal level because 8 years between Redemption and Redemption 2 is enough to make a man becoming a bit more detached from the medium due to the simple fact of getting older, acquiring new interests and responsibilities. It's a personal matter, but I'm sure other players would connect to this experience. The level of emotional investment, especially in competitive environments like RDRO, becomes more difficult over time.

Redemption 2 is a technical marvel.

It really is something special. It has many faults (mostly small gameplay issues and mission design), but none of them keep it from being an incredibly moving and deep experience.

As far as prequels go, this is easily the best one I've ever played. The way it affects RDR1, the complicated and troubled history of the gang. You really feel it. The best franchise prequels make the sequels feel richer and more grand. This is definitely the best one.

Well put.

As a single player experience and story, I think it has a shout of being R*'s best - and there is some stiff competition in there. Best overall game though - I like both single and mulitplayer, and Online is only in Beta at the moment, so perhaps it's too early to fully judge it.

Having not played RDR, but looking for something new, RDR2 has become my favorite game of all time to this point.

I did not finish GTA IV, was a bit bizarre to me (I loved the original GTA on PS2).

Played the Battlefield / CoD games for a while.

Fallout IV was fun.

But RDR2 has so much detail, very interesting story lines, and surprises out the wazoo.

I have been finished with the Epilogue for almost 3 weeks and still working towards 100% completion.

Been getting really tempted to start over again for a second run.

For me this game has been the best. Set a high standard, that is for sure.

If you have somehow avoided finding out the plot and ending of RDR 1 then you simply must buy it and play it before you do - you are in simply a blessed situation. The graphics may be a little outdated but the opportunity play through chronologically with no spoilers is an opportunity that many of us have missed,

Playing the original RDR before the sequel came out really helped flesh out the story. If you haven't played the original before I think there is some videos on YouTube that have all the cut-scenes.

OT: Im a little over 50% complete and still in Chapter 3. Going out and exploring/treasure hunt/strangers/fishing/hunting/side-quests have kept me plenty busy. I don't mind doing these choose-your-own-adventures instead of the main story, but I can see how all these minor things would aggravate ppl. Grinding, say to get a feather in your hat, is a bit long in the tooth for these freedom games now a days, but it's also immersive. That would be my only complaint... well that and the slowness of the controls... but otherwise a great game from R*.

I have been doing all these after I finished the story and with max bounty $1500 in every state, now that's challenging... especially when you are in the middle of the skinning and bounty hunters are already loading bullets into your body lol.

Hey, look man... I disagree, but for the love of all that is holy it is such a relief to see someone giving GTA IV praise after all this time...

1. Red Dead Redemption 2
2. Grand Theft Auto V
3. Grand Theft Auto IV

That's my list. Go ahead and crucify me. The three best open world games of all time are right there. Arguably the three best games of all time, period.

I love the story, the characters, the world, the music. But gameplay is only average sadly.

A bit more realism would be nice,in every mission you kill like 50 enemies. Last of us is a game i really love for example,a similar combatsystem would have been great.

In terms of story rdr2 is top 3 ,but it has waybtoo many weakpoints to be one of my all time favs in general.

I may just do that.

I for one would buy a RDR1 DLC for RDR2 if it was offered in a heartbeat.

Was RDR1 for PS4 or was it only PS3?

My PS3 can barely play a DVD movie anymore let alone operate a game...

I just wish there were more missions that made you feel something..

Like "Revenge is a dish best eaten"

That mission is f*cking amazing.

Best one in the whole game by far.

It has it all, the music too sweet jesus!!

That's a great point. I'm not sure what I would do in your situation, as many people are speculating they might remaster RDR 1 for a RDR 2 DLC.

I would definitely try to avoid having the ending of RDR 1 spoiled for you though. But you might have to be very careful about which topics you enter here, and certainly what videos you watch on YouTube.

I don't know how her being a lesbian means the things that made the first game special are now gone. Homosexuals exist. Having a homosexual video game character does not make you a SJW. It's just a representation of the world we live in.

Beautifully worded and explained. BEING GAY = SJW PROPOGANDA haha.

Have to agree with the OP here, wandering the meticulously crafted wilderness as a fully bearded hobo Arthur finally is the best gaming experience of my life. Its the greatest game ever made other than the mass effect trilogy or final fantasy 7 but I'll bump rdr2 over mass effect due to 3's crippling and garbage ending.

For me it's easily the best open world game made this generation and redeemed my faith in R* after GTA V was such a hit or miss type of game. The most important thing IMO is it has far more positives than negatives. I thought Red Dead Redemption was going to be almost impossible to top, but honestly I tried playing it a few weeks back and couldn't muster the energy.

That's when you know it's a special kind of game. Games like this don't come around very often in a market dominated by annualised cash grabs churned out as quickly as possible.

Nah it's more than that and people are just fine with gay characters as long as things don't get preachy and it's not shoved in your face..but somehow that's exactly what happens these days. With the Last of us 2 the kiss was basically advertised and even the interviews after that they kept talking about it, like it was the most important thing..stuff like that is cringeworthy and I expected more subtlety from ND.

Sadie's arc was just rushed and her missions often felt very heavy handed. We get it, you are a badass independent woman..how often will that be repeated? We are going through a sea of sh*t, everything is becoming PC so no one gets offended & butthurt, everyone has to have preachy representation, otherwise you get SJW's screaming their life is ending etc.

Going through a second play-through right now. I've got to say that slowing down and soaking the game elements in some more has helped garner an even greater appreciation for the game world. I can't believe how much stuff I missed on my first play through. There are at least ten new scenarios or locations that I've completely missed the first time around. The game is definitely top five all time for me at this point and really the best open world game I've ever played. And I've pretty much played 'em all except Breath of the Wild since I don't have switch. Despite the faults, it's still a very impressive game overall.
