Fate5ealer
Is there anyway we can get the horses assist steering as an option to be turned off in settings, im trying to do the horseman 9 and i get almost to blackwater and my horse desides to try and jump a rock thats next to the path but no where near where i am steering him and its flipped me off the horse twice now...the assist is supposedly ment to help but its makes simple tasks like riding your horse harder than it should be. Satanta
I am not that far along-taking my time so BW is still a 'Die if you go there' zone, however you just made me realize I have two places-one in Valentine and one in St Denis that my horse invariably decides it is going to 'steer' itself onto the walkway and try to get me a Wanted level by stepping on people-I could not figure out what ou wantd in your post until those spots came to mind. I don't think there is-I believe it is designed into the game to give you the 'feeling' of your horse being skittish or not always minding you because it is a real animal but it happening in the exact same spot constantly tends to break that
Rykjeklut
Your horse tries to steer away from things in its path, and 99% of the time, it manages fine unless you're giving input of your own. Try to just ...let it go on its own.

Run along the trail, trail turns Left and horse just keeps going. Heck, I've had it go so far off the set marker trail in Cinematic I've had to back track nearly a day to get to where I meant to go and in Cini mode you cannot see the map or much of your surroundings to catch visual clues about where you are. No, there's no way to shut this off. This has driven me insane since day one. I can't count how many times I've steered my horse out of the way of an obstacle only for the auto-assist to drive me right back into it. f*cking obnoxious. Cant-B-Faded
It won't autosteer to stay on a path, but it will to avoid an obstacle. And if you're trying to steer the other way, it overrides you. It feels weird but it's there to help.

Huh. Can't say I've ever had that happen to me. Strange anyway

Strange anyway Happewned the other night, not the first time but this is fresh memory-I was up Noreth-RR tracks around "The Bridge". Set my marker to head back to the Skinner Camp-riding along, after a bit I recognize the area and check the map-horse had run past the turn and was going on. Even showed the marker going back in the direction it ignored.
SuperJude™
The horse mechanics are pure garbage. It was better in the last Red Dead 8 years ago. I can't count the times I'm trying to go one direction and the horse runs into a tree. Or a rock. Or can't walk down a hill. Or maybe instead of galloping decides to run right into the middle of the wolf pack we should be running from. Frustrating to say the least. I can't believe these mechanics made it through testing. Did a screen record of one incident-I was runnin' from the law and headed towards another State -West Elizabath to New Hanover, there is a deep Canyon with a bridge and I was headed towards the Bridge. Got to it and the horse hopped the rail on one side then insted of turning to cross it jumped the rail on the other side directly into a telegraph poles swending Arthur to faceplant the pole. Also noticed the horse does not seem to see cliffs and just goes right over the edge-thought it was my eyesight being the issue but I've seen other peoples playthrus with the same issue-like the cliffs are invisible til you are right on top of them.
