L Ctrl Super Heavy Armor?

Frequently, on the results screen after a match, a message will show up down near the bottom, by the like/dislike. Heavy, super heavy armor. I press the button, but is it doing anything?

 

Also, how do I buy more ammo for my car? I don't want to run out during a match.

Yes, you're buying armour for your player. 

As far as I know, you can't buy ammo - it's a balancing technique (everyone can run out) so that you're forced to use tactics to deter or destroy your opponent.

Since when do vehicles use ammo? That's never been a thing. And it's pointless to buy armor when you're in a mode using vehicles, the armor does nothing.

Have you even played the Arena War games? 
Have you not seen the "ammo" counter - in the form of a white bar - in the bottom left?

After I upgraded my dominator with the machine guns, in the first match, I couldn't fire them. Then afterwards, there was a "Buy ammo for $X" pop-up. After that I could use them, but I don't know if it's charging me every time it reloads or what. I look at my bank history, and there are a lot of entries for "vehicle maintenance". Not sure if that's it or not.
