Treasure maps needs balancing?

@kcole4001 Saw you posting every two days with your favourite trusty tree spawn. Can you answer some of my questions.

1. Is there a cooldown on the Treasure hunters and the Tree spawns, Is that the reason you only post your tree spawns every two days.

2. And if there is really a cooldown, Is that on the same tree you picked the Treasure Map from or all the tree spawns.

My camp is always near the Emerald Ranch area.

My routine is as follows:

1) head over to the Emerald tree, then go to Larned Sod and pick up the jewellery on the dresser, the Potent Snake Oil on the shelf by the door and whatever I may have used from the items on the table.

2) check the tree again, then look over to the low ridge if there is no map on the tree, where often there will be a treasure hunter.

 

As far as I can tell it kind of feels like there may be a 24 hour cooldown because it seems to work when I pick up the things from inside the cabin at Larned Sod, which are definitely replaced after 24 hours real time.

There are times I get maps on consecutive days, last week for example I got a map on 3 days in a row, so it's definitely not a 48 hour cooldown if there is one at all.

 

I generally only do Burned Town and Bard's Crossing as soon as I get them since they're the easiest and I'm getting rather lazy with the maps.

Last week's 3 day streak gave me maps for some other spots.

Happy news guys, An hour ago I got first treasure map from a looted body from a gang hideout near Armadillo, after looting 1310 bodies.

 

For future reference if any one else having the same issue as mine where you aren't getting the treasure maps by looting bodies contact R* support ASAP cause I don't think it's a coincidence that I got the map on same day when I contacted support this morning.

 

And clear your cache too and I'm not even joking cause I think that helped in my case.

in my experience you gotta use some maps, to find some maps. it's a loot/drop/recycle "system" or something, I guess.

try it, take an item you never use (bait or whatever) and then loot bodies, you'll probably pick it up and you never had that as loot before!

I’m lvl 43, cleared 48 hideouts (+ ~20 ambushes) and I only had 11 treasures. 7 from lvling up. So that’s just 4 per ~70 activities. It’s either me being unlucky or R* should really look into that and balance it a little bit. I really enjoy doing it, but the reward is inaccurate.

To the OP / topic question I neglected to answer in my first post, yes I think they should be, but at this point I doubt payouts will ever change. A reward should be fair and ideally if was to remain within the realm of 1 to 2 bars per map, the random factor should roll BETWEEN 1 and 2 bars, not the same rng as stranger missions. Anything under 1 bar is an insult to the person collecting the reward. 

 

Some data of note, and since resetting my awards for 100 maps collected twice now, I have to say I’ve definitely seen some differences in amounts depending on WHEN I pick up the reward from the lockboxes / chests. Every time I rush to collect the little colored reward box or immediately grab, it gives me abysmal gold and cash. If I wait until my character stops leaning over and just idles for a moment ignoring the box THEN pick up, I seem to get a least a bar more, but the cash drops into the single digits (which is fine, it’s gold I’m after really). Here’s some loot data grabbed from chests around the map last month (PC, 2021). Sp and fp mean either slow pickup or fast pickup. Dig outta this what you will. I’m sure there’s some weird rng going on after those beta treasure glitches on console to prevent excessive earning. That’s what it seems like at least.

^word. I vaguely recall, 2 years ago or so, collecting a reward from a treasure in new austin, hennigans's stead north iirc.

it was 0.24 goldbars and...45 $, something like that. the lowest take EVER!

Well, I can show there's no cooldown on treasure maps with today's take:

Treasure Hunter (found about 30 minutes later southeast of Twin Stack Pass)

You know you have bad luck with maps when from the last 5 resupply missions at McLeans House you got 0 treasure maps.

That place has always been a gold mine for me in terms of crazy high map drop rates, but maybe I have just too many maps on me now. 

I have 26 now, but possibly 1 or more dupes.

I haven't found a single map in a week, and this is my 0.25gold week for the dailies, so I've been playing more than average.

Looks like they've nerfed map spawns.

9 resupplies at McLeans without a map now, lol.

Meanwhile I keep looting maps from that lady who can ambush you near Copperhead Landing.

The last 3 or maybe 4 maps I looted (not counting trees and treasure hunters) were from that lady ambushing me.

Would like some variety, lol, but I have been grinding my ass off with trader stuff this week and my camps are always at Bluewater Marsh when grinding trader.

I was only short a camp defend for the general dailies so I thought I'd give it another look..after 40 minutes nothing, even in the most reliable spot south of Valentine, but I did run into a treasure hunter for what it's worth (very little it turns out, both of today's maps equal one decent map).

 

Treasure Hunter

Burned Town - 0.47G.

 

I gave up after that, they've definitely nerfed the random event spawns and it's not worth the time for 0.15G per daily.

Back when I first started ranking up I ran treasure maps.  One of maps yielded a pamphlet.  This was about 3 months ago.  So, I've wondered since then; do only treasure maps drop these?  

 

Is there a loot table for treasure maps that is readily available?

 

All in all, I think maps are underpowered, unless they regularly drop pamphlets.  Like Capitale, it's generally not competitive profit-wise because bonuses for other mechanics are a regular thing.

I don't think I ever got a pamphlet from a map lock box/chest, but then I don't pay much attention to anything except the gold amount, same for loot - there I only look for collectibles and often don't see that I've looted a treasure map.

You can get tonics and such, often opened ones, but usually I don't notice so can't really say how often.

 

Capitale will actually appear in regular missions occasionally, I got one note during the Sadie Adler mission I did for today's daily.

Sometimes I find them in random moonshine roadblock loot.

 

If there is a loot table I haven't seen it, but @CaliMeatWagon would be the guy to ask, he's the spreadsheet king.

I have had the same experience with map duplicates (Dakota River Bend).

This happens when I rank up; sometimes the reward map will be a duplicate of something I have in my satchel. The map will appear white (not grey) when you retrieve it from the mail.
