Triumph-Rat
Just as an afterthought, I have proof absolute that I am a bad outlaw! Found the Treasure Hunter, paid $5 for map, killed Treasure Hunter and looted her for 66c. Now I KNOW that I just gave her $5 and was standing close enough to see which pocket she put it in so how did I not manage to get that back??? Rev. Are you going back to the same tree, then seeing a map again? Or is there a cooldown on "any at all?" I forget there is sometimes a treasure map on a tree, in the burned area, by "Rio Del Lobo Rock" where I go to when there is a daily "Pluck a Condor"; there is sometimes a condor on the rock, or on the ground in that burned tree area (that one is hard to see unless eagle eye, similar shape to a stumpy thing on the ground.) Then I say, "Bonus! Treasure map!" Also, before logging off today I noticed I have 16 treasure maps to do now (not counting duplicates still in my camp box, and a coupon for one I can't use yet until I use the duplicate.) AdamNortonUK
Cooldown is 48 minutes usually per location as it is with most of the free roam random encounters. However I could be wrong and it's 48 minutes per treasure hunter / tree map location and 72 hours for that exact location you picked the map up from, so might be two types of timers involved as I've certainly encountered more than one treasure hunter though on the same day, both in different locations and may have been less than 48 minutes but I could be remembering wrong since I don't keep any track of the time when doing dailies. My usual daily routine now is logging on my camp which is by Hanging Dog Ranch, so I either have a Hideout, Moonshine Roadblock, Campsite Defend or Moonshiner Posion/Destroy Moonshine mission, once I've clear whichever it is I then have Free Roam bounty spawning close by, so I grab them and take them to Strawberry, on my way I either encounter one of three things on a 3 day cycle in the exact same locations: Treasure Hunter, Grave Robber or Midnight Paw Legendary due to the other random events being locked out during the 'Bounty Mission'. The grave robber I have to go back to after dropping off the bounty to actually accept to dig though, I don't bother with the Coyote since I've sampled him enough times now but I do take out the Treasure Hunter if I have the map space in my satchel. So to increase your chances of Treasure Hunters or Tree Maps, it's best going near to a location during a bounty mission (not legendary), even better during a free roam bounty though since it's less work than going to a bounty board and being close to an area of a treasure hunter that you can ride past so they load in or something. No Homing
@Rev. Gnash Are you sure there weren't any other players around? A friend of mine said there's a 72 hour cooldown on them, I'm not sure tbh. I feel like the cooldown is atleast 24 hours, though. It's hard to tell for me, I have 2 PS4s and have 2 alt accounts, I often play with 1 of my alts alongside my main. They could spawn a tree map or NPC hunter while my main is on cooldown, so it's hard to know how long the cooldown is. Also, I don't know how easy it's to spawn a tree map or NPC hunter, I don't know if they can spawn during other random encounters and if so, during which encounters can they spawn and during which not? I know if a LA is off cooldown is fairly easy to spawn but I often I have to go through other random encounters in the area before the LA spawns. I did have the Katata Elk spawn while taking the Moonstone Pond random encounter bounty to the jail (I found a map during that) Rev. I'll have to do further testing just by myself. I think the cooldown also kicks in if you don't grab the map, probably to avoid players using a friend or 2nd account to spawn maps over and over again. That same friend asked me to spawn a tree map for him, it was over 24 hours ago since I last grabbed a tree map but after about 20 minutes or so I still hadn't spawned one. Maybe I ran into 1 earlier without knowing. I think they can spawn from quite far away, if it's not night it's easy to miss it if you don't get right up to the tree. kcole4001
I have definitely gotten maps from the Emerald tree after 2 days (48 hours real time), even while only playing briefly since before the latest pass came out. I got one from a treasure hunter on the low ridge just to the north today, but generally I check that tree 2-4 times every day as my camp is always close by and my shine shack is above Emerald Stn. I rode off and then found the 1st map stuck to the tree. then I went for lagras, wnated to get the last chicken, but none around. so I was checking the area for coins, not long really. also sampled the cows on the westhill haven ranch. not that time consuming. I then traveled back to the shack, and made my way towards momma watson again, for the last chicken. got that checked, rrode off again and in broad daylight I saw another map stuck to the tree. the same tree. same session. LESS than 48 minutes I suppose. /just sayin. PS: found 4 maps in this session. tree-map at flat neck station, before the other two, and a lootmap from a roadblock near armadillo. Rev. Rev. Gnash
@No Homing The last three months, I have been keeping maps in my satchel at around 28 - 27. I have noticed, a slight uptick in looted maps. Whenever, I have that count. In the past, soon as I reached 29 maps, I would redeem 10 or 15; making room for more. It seemed to take a lot more effort to find maps, with my old method. Edited May 15, 2021 by Rev.
