Treasure maps needs balancing?

I was stunned when I got my first treasure map last yesterday--after ~20 hideouts or so.

 

I consider myself lucky, knowing some players have cleared 50(!) or more and still no map...

 

FWIW, I didn't follow any of the "rules" per se supposed to help with getting them (letting the leader live, etc.). The notification just popped up after I looted one of the NPCs.

I used to get a map every few hideouts but since last update I've done at least 20 hideouts with no map...15 minimum.. wth

I cleaned out less hideouts than usual, but still I clean a bit from to time - no luck though, not at all, for quite some time now. boo R*, boooooo!

hit rank 35 though, so going up to CALUMET RAVINE for the treasure. really curious about the take, last few rewards had been rather disappointing.

Rewards are completely random I think. Recieved 2.x gold and 180$ for map at lvl40 and 0.3gold and 60$ for map st lvl70. 

There‘s really no correlation to anything concerning treasure maps it seems.

yeah maybe...I got 0.25 gold and 78 $  @ calumet ravine

and only once iirc did I get a gold reward higher than 1x bar

Yes only once for me too that i recieved more than 1 gold bar. And then it was 2.something. Didnt trust my eyes for a sec lol

I got my first around 39...It sucks.  I'm currently sitting on 89 hideouts cleared and still only one map.

Let me tell you about hideout # 95:

 I just got home from work, did my daily after work crap and turned on the PS4 to sit and relax.  I popped the top on Sierra Nevada Pale and began to roll an Arthur Morgan(that's what I'm calling it now;) ).  I spawn in Armadillo at the tracks.  "OH, look...A gang hideout! SWEET" ...And then BOOM! Shot in the back of the head by some fool.  Well, of course I have to get him back since he was totally unprovoked. Now, I'm normally not a prick about it, I'll usually just pay back the favor once or twice and go on my way, but since he made it so I wasn't going to get that gang attack, today I was.  How can I be a prick? Well, I spawn on top of the hill somewhat near the gang attack.  I watched the "fool" mess around with my corpse for a minute and then head toward the gang attack.  I waited for him to clear the hideout. all this time, ready and waiting on top of the hill.  The second he finished, he took a high velocity bullet from the bolt action to the side of his face, but I wasn't quite satisfied.  So how can I be an even bigger prick?  YES! NEVER give the chance for revenge!  He turned on his mic and said "Oh, it's game on now.  You're dead, you little b**th".  I turned my mic on  "Bye" and and hit pause, online/posse up and into a new session I went way over in Lemoyne.  A sh*t move I know, but......AHAHAHAHAHA.  I never do stuff like that, but this time it felt good.  

 

So now in the new session I quit the posse I joined and went to fast travel and traveled to Armadillo because that side of the map was empty, and I need to earn some funds hunting.  I spawn in Armadillo in the same exact spot I did before, turned around....I see smoke!!!! Gang hideout is there!  As I approached it, it just felt destined...I clear it fairly quickly, I spare the leader but pistol whip him, loot his body and move on.  Nothing good from anyone, I'm losing hope...and all of the sudden, second to last guy to loot...A TREASURE MAP!!!!

 

2 maps/95 hideouts cleared = 2.1%...I'm well below avg. 

 

I had to share and my friend isn't on yet, so thanks for reading lol

And after adopting your method:

 

96 Hideouts cleared (officially. But I'm not counting the bugged ones anymore because I figure bugged out hideouts won't drop anything anyway. They're bugged. )

13 Maps (not counting the every 5 levels ones. I'm level 65 with 26 maps overall)

 

They can be a little streaky. Go 30 some odd hideouts without a map, and then get 3 in a row.

what is yor method? brcause my average drop rate is 0%

Total of 30 maps at level 70 156 hideouts cleared, so that means 13 maps awarded for every 5 level ups. Found a total of 17 i would estimate about 12 of those are from hideouts the remaining 5 from ambushes.

Thats my method and it aint work for me not had didly squat in nearly 40 hideouts now

You've executed 40 hideouts exactly like that and gotten 0 maps? Well that puts you below average, but not that far below the expected maps found for 40 completed hideouts - 4. 

 

Keep at it, I didn't find my first until about my 30th hideout, and I can often go 10 hideouts with nothing before finding several in a row another day.

Ray hadn't found any either and was convinced they were a myth and now hes gotten more than me! Just have some faith GTP Monkey!

 

To give you a frame of reference, you should be finding treasure maps about as often as it rains in LA. Some people will arrive in LA and it will rain that whole weekend. Some people will be in LA for months without seeing a drop. But eventually, if you stay for long enough, it will level out to 36 days over the course of a year. Much like the treasure maps, if you get your sample size big enough, the numbers will level out, whether you were lucky or unlucky at the beginning.

Given how easily it is for bodies to disappear before you get a chance to loot them I just loot them in groups as I clear out the camp leaving the leader for last after everything else has already been cleared/looted. 

 

I dunno if my stats are bugged or if my ratio is just that bad but it says I've cleared 258 hideouts yet that I've only found 32 treasures. Since I'm rank 79 that means 24 maps came from rank ups which leaves just 8 from hideouts. But then I've found at least 2 maps from ambushes which would mean I've only found 6 maps from hideouts and I'm damn sure I've found more than just 6 lol. But then again it's not like I kept record and I honestly doubt I've looted more than 32 treasures at this point, so who knows.

 

Either way I still find the maps on bodies if I loot them before dealing with the leader.

So you have a 250 hideout sample that shows youre finding maps about 2% of the time with your 'loot everyone before they disappear method.'

 

I have a 200 hideout sample that shows both me and @RayD70 finding maps about 10% of the time following my method.

Yesterday I eecieved the map for lvl 85 and had 0,55gold 115$ 2xsnakeoil AND the receipe for special horse-stimulant, which costs about 500$ I think on it‘s own. How cool is that?

Well i got to 49 hide outs and still sweet FA so im sure some of those dead bodies that despawn may have had the odd map so ive changed my aproach and loot as i go if safe IE clear one area loot then kill rest loot then deal with the Leader and "Bingo" ive done 54 in total and had 4 maps

A few days ago or recently, I did a treasure hunt and got special miracle tonic pamphlet. That couldn't be bought from the fence, even though I had bought them all. Now I have all the pamphlets in the game.

I‘ve heard that you can get receips when I was lvl 10 or so, but this is the first time it actually happened to me. 

 

What you need for special miracle tonic? Isn‘t it the one with currant, yarrow and burdock root? 

Because if it is, I‘m pretty sure I‘m able to buy it at the fence. Maybe just bugged?

It is currant, yarrow and ginseng. But I didn't even own that one, even though I bought all the pamphlets from fence. Special miracle tonic was the only one locked in my crafting inventory. Until I got the pamphlet. I've learnt the recipe, it's unlocked. But it doesn't show up as read, with a tick. It also says that it fortifies II bars, even though potent miracle tonic does that. Special version is supposed to give III bars for health, stamina and dead eye. I'll send bug report later.

You received 14 for leveling up if you‘re 79 now.. Meaning you got 18 from hideouts. So it‘s about 7% map ratio for you.

Do you enjoy putting words in peoples mouths? I only stated that given how easily the bodies disappear I prefer to loot them before they have a chance to, and given that I still get maps looting them before killing the leader I don't see a reason to wait till he's dead.

 

I even admitted that according to the awards page my ratio seems pretty sh*tty...

 

Reading comprehension homie, but hey to each his own right?

I fail to see my error in reading comprehension. Right after I said that you're better off waiting to loot, you posted saying you prefer to loot as you go because youre worried about bodies disappearing. You end your post by emphasizing that you continue to loot before dealing with the leader.

 

I showed you numbers that show you that is decreasing your chances of finding a treasure map.

 

Then you accuse me of putting words in your mouth, repeat your last post almost word for word, and make a clumsy attempt at using my own turn of phrase against me with a sentence that doesnt really make sense if were being honest lol. 

 

It's also pretty rich to accuse of me of lack of reading comprehension, after I posted showing you data that shows one way results in a higher drop chance than the other, and in your next post you doubled down, saying you still 'don't see a reason to wait'.

 

Sorry if i was a dick about it, but I've already explained in this thread a couple pages ago why looting as you go is the wrong way to go about it, and youre post implied that by not looting as you go, you're missing out on treasure maps, which isn't the case.

 

I just want everyone to get as many treasure maps as possible!

 

Edit: I will admit that at a place like bacchus bridge or shady belle it would make sense to loot the bodies that are super far from the leader as you go as they will def disappear lol. But in a place like Pikes Basin, or the bay beside Rhodes, or about 90% of the rest of the hideouts, I really think you're better off waiting, dealing with the leader, and then looting them with the boosted drop % chance from completing the hideout extra objective.

You can get maps off of Ambush and Stranger mission spawned NPCs as well so basically, loot as many bodies as you possibly can. Stop and hop off wagons if it's safe to do so. Let your friends get ahead of you, their loss can be your gain.
