    • Something large and original that lived up to the hype. I haven't stopped playing it since.
      4
    • Pleasantly surprised by it. Enjoyable and will continue playing it.
      63
    • Not that great. More overpriced content for a slight edge in the modes I'm not gonna play.

    • Horrible. Not worth reinstalling the game for. f*ck this, I'm going back to Red Dead.

Looks good
Overpriced
Came at the wrong time in the update grand scheme of things
Nothing game changing
The arena is quite pleasantly priced.

Still haven't been able to try it yet here. I'll try again tonight, but last night after trying three times through quick job option, no dice.

Wish there had been more notice the update was coming - I would've taken advantage of some of the recent double money opportunities if I knew we were getting this. As it stands I'm broke-ish, everything's expensive AF, and I really can't be bothered grinding the required money.

coming from someone who's only played it with stock cars only/only with friends? i like it. It could definitely be better, it could definitely be worse. But seeing the reveal vs what i felt playing it? pleasantly surprised.

i CANNOT WAIT until my next chance to run Headhunter and camp over top of the Arena in my Akula.   hopefully two or three of you can be my bodyguards for that session.   heh.

Played a bit and my initial impression is that it seems like a small update overall..most of the effort went into the Arena and vehicle designs...much less effort was invested in testing the different arena modes for bugs and glitches...

The way the AP system works seems designed to keep people actually playing the game rather than just collecting new stuff.

From seeing the patch notes I'm happy to see R* are still slowly fixing bugs from previous updates.

My biggest complaint is how they implemented the different vehicle mods like the guns and front scoops...you have to repurchase them each time you want to change it...they even give you the option to buy and modify it on the prep screen before a match...WTF?

Once I've bought the option I should have the choice to change it for free imo...

Cant says i give a crap bout the arena stuff. The cars look cool in a Mad Max way, but the prices are too ridiculously high for my skinflint blood. The new muscle cars are all that interest me. And i sure as heck aint payin a cool half mill each for a couple scifi guns.

This one's a joke. I don't need to spend too much on these needless modes and vehicles I officially quit Arena Wars for all time!

I like it a lot. Capture the flag is cool. I like the vehicles. The one mode is sort of like twisted metal deathmatch. Things are definitely overpriced though.

I would have preferred all out and teams where everyone drives around, the spectator sh*t should stay for actual spectators who join late or just wanna spectate, it mostly just feels like I'm waiting around, just to finally get in a game, get empd, and knocked out right away too.

Games Master is the absolute worst for this sh*t. Hate that one so much.

I'm loving this update! It gives me a reason to play again, so I can grind money for every version of every arena vehicle and to unlock those Pegasus vehicles. Finally an update that I actually have to put in lots of time and will keep me playing.

Spoiler

I didn't expect anything and i'm still disappointed. Even though they added a lot of things I wanted...

Previous dlcs - You want overpriced items? you buy them, thats it. Sometimes theres a paywall but thats obvious at this point.
This dlc - Either spend months and months playing glorified adversary mode 2.0 with random unlocks (+ spend extra money on lootboxes aka Spin2Win) just for the change to buy that overpriced item you want.

or

Pay twice as much for literally anything. You can't even get shirt a this time without months of grinding...

I had no problem with GR research but this is just ridiculous. Are they loosing active players so now they are trying to trick investors?  Easy way to pump up those stats... "look at those stats! so many active players after 5 years? very impressive!"

Now not to be only negative here are things that I liked:
- Funny intro, gta humor
- Arena is done very well. Thats how every adversary mode should look like. Attention to details, fun maps and voiceover
- Customization is nice (but too bad that 99% of props/upgrades are exactly the same on all vehicles)
- I like the theme, feels like a mix of Madmax, Micromachines, Carmagedon and Bloodring from VC

Things that I specifically wishlisted for:
- madmaxy vehicles (after I was disappointment with GR vehicles)
- fast tanks
- passive getaway vehicles with no missiles, only mines and the ability to jump
- RC vehicles
- flamethrowers (now we need handheld version)
- different kind of mines
- different headlight colors
- wheelie for cars
- retro cars (especially Impala)

Expensive, but the mode itself is not as bad as people make it out to be. I've been playing it alot and will continue for some time.

I called it horrible/not that great.

I love the creativity with the Mad Max themes and the new cars, but for all the months of hype about a "big December update" with comparisons to Doomsday and Executives and Other Criminals this release felt woefully inadequate. The Arena gets old quickly and offers nothing for players who don't like PvP and nothing of substance for those in freeroam. There's no new missions, no new jobs or features, it's just a glorified adversary mode with a few garage levels and expensive clothes.

There's a lengthy drip feed but there's one with every update at this point. At least the IRL sports/classic cars aren't too shabby, but the forced weaponized/apocalypse styling on others is disheartening.

I was hoping for something substantial that would make GTA relevant again, but this update doesn't change anything about the game. Even Nightclubs with the Business Battles, the Terrorbyte, Promotions missions, and enterable Nightclubs with new dance features had more to offer to the day to day "feel of the game". Despite owning an Arena with all the trimmings, it's more or less the same game as it always was. No new ground here.

It was nice to try the new cars and AW gamemodes for a half hour, but after that I've had no desire to go back. I eventually will just to test  more cars out, but outside of sheer curiosity it doesn't up the "fun" factor all that much. It's just new...for whatever that's worth.

Overall, Arena Wars isn't that enticing or exciting for the long term. It doesn't really change anything about the game in freeroam or elsewhere and all it boils down to is a glorified adversary mode and a decent dripfeed. Hip hip hooray!

Back to other games.

Caution: Overwhelmingly positive outlook below.

This is my favorite update so far, by miles. I love the Arena Wars so much that it could be its own game and I would likely play it often (I know I would because I invested many hours into Twisted Metal). The arena itself, the announcers, the cutscenes are all great. I have enjoyed all the different gamemodes so far, only using stock vehicles and have won plenty of times. My favorite being Hot Bomb and Here Come the Monsters.

The update has imo, the best vehicles out of any update ever, just toppling Doomsday and SSASSS. Of course I am bias because of all the muscle class cars, but the others seem nice as well. There isn't a vehicle in this update that I don't think is pretty cool. I think the customization for the Arena Vehicles was really well done, very much ripped from the Mad Max video game. Adding wheelies to muscle cars was an excellent, often requested, addition. More garage space is always welcome as well.

Other small bits that made a difference to me, I haven't gotten any calls from anyone since the update. No Paige. Didn't even get a call about the Arena. I like that. I like that they put some Arena Wars banners on the outside of the Arena. I like the spin to win game, thought I wouldnt, but I like it a lot. Maybe I'm a gambler at heart. Brings me to the veiwing lounge, which I love. Great way to implement a way to make the wait for the match to be over more bearable. I like the trophies on the wall, and how the trade prices, vehicle mods, clothes, etc are unlocked as you play. The special Pegasus vehicles are a cool touch for prizes as well. New Kifflom stuff is neat. Colored headlights are neat.

Some minor cons for me: Everything is expensive, but that's an issue with every update. Honestly I don't even mind this time since I believe most of it is worth working towards. Also they obviously didn't think the Pegasus unlocks through since it would take 50k wins for the tractor. Hopefully they will fix that later this year.

9.75/10 for me.

Imo.

It won't top original heists, or that 'surprise factor' of DDH, but this DLC will last me longer than DDH by a country mile. Plus the potential for more toys/activities inside too.

Just good fun for me. All R* need to really do is keep the event weeks coming and on call will not fail me here. :)

If they've finally done something about the endless spam every session, then I'll bump my score from 2/10 to maybe 3/10.

(make that 3.5 if they've fixed the hairline 'paint' bug that slipped in with Gunrunning - 2.5 if they've still not sorted that one...)

Unfortunately its only Paige and I think Lazlow/nightclub related. Older businesses still do. :(

Ah, right - silly me, for thinking that R* would back down from trying to railroad players into buying every expensive gimmick in the game... :rol:

I do like the mode, which has surprised me as I'm strictly PvE.  But I guess this is PvP where it should be - in a confined place where you have already agreed to PvP.

But the price of things undiscounted is too high, and to unlock the trade prices is a complete lottery and a very long one.

What I'm worried about is this mode will die very quickly, especially when it is no longer double cash.  The payouts at the moment are a bit tight for the amount of time matches can take.  When they're half price, it won't be worth it.  And I'm desperate to unlock trade prices, but if no one ends up playing, it's gonna be extra hard to accomplish this.

I just hope they continue to add more modes to this, or even something on foot, like a take-off of Running Man!

That would be freakin' awesome.

Someone must have been thinking...."so if we add some mad max style vehicles and a new garage, nobody will notice it's just another adversary mode".

While most previous updates have had some integration with the rest of GTA online, this one feels totally unrelated to the rest of the game. It's instantly forgettable.

Just like last week, this week special is a complete anti climax.

How bad must their Arena DLC sales have been if they're re-marketing it again for double cash & RP for another week?

Normally this is not my sort of thing. But I've enjoyed it. Prices are insane though and the grind for ap. AP needs double or triple event weeks at some point.

Super fun.   All the modes.   Kick-ass.   Helps to be able to drop GTA$30mil and not miss it, but yeah.

Pro tip:  lagging out gets you the win, and another loading screen.

Love having property at the Arena,  although I do wish the spectator box was accessible in a non-spectating, just hanging out capacity.

Some of the game modes are incredibly good fun to play (some less so)...and the tier system should prolong interest as long as the rewards are worth the effort.

Funding the toys for this update hasn't been an issue for me but I can see why the prices have rubbed people up the wrong way. It's incredibly expensive. If I had to grind for it, I'm not sure I'd bother.

Overall a good but not great update.

I am actually pleasantly surprised by it. When they announced it i had absolutely zero interest in it because it looked like a compilation of Adversary Modes I'm not gonna play.

But after playing them with friends and smashing eachother about, i realized I was having fun. It's a FUN update overall and that's not counting the good selection of dripfeed vehicles like the Deviant and the Schlagen GT. Looking forward to updating my garages with them.

However...
For a December update, comparing it to Import/Export and the Doomsday Heist? It feels like a Cunning Stunts level of quality. Something entirely PvP based that will most likely lose players when the 2x event is over. It doesn't seem like it would be played one (Doomsday) or even two (Import/Export) years later.
