Facial hair not growing properly

Hey so I have finished the game and currently playing as John. I always take hair tonic then sleep (repeat) for some odd reason the moustache seems to grow but the rest takes a long time to grow. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Unfortunately only the man who coded this god forsaken hair growing system seems to understand how it works.

I'm in chapter 4 just after the riverboat gambling mission and my Arthur's moustache and goatee are no longer reacting to hair tonics either, but my main hair and chops are...

Like Cutter said, only the fool who coded this specific element knows what the feck is going on. Let's hope he gets a handle on it sooner rather than later.

Head into St.Denis for a new experimental hair transplant surgery.

In my last playthrough of chapter 6 Arthur's hair and beard stopped growing completely. I went to the barbers once at the start of the chapter and it never grew an inch afterwards. I'm in the epilogue now and it seems okay.

Chances are, they're the type of geek who can only grow an ugly level 3 goatee, and with little social life in Rockstar, have only themselves as a frame of reference. Google is forbidden as Rockstar fears of code stealing

Anything over a 3 is gross, no way I could stand it for more than a day.

When you're dead, you don't know that you're dead. It only affects the people around you.

It's the same when you're stupid.

You aren't doing anything wrong. It's either a bug or a design choice from Rockstar that some people can grow a 10 10 10 beard and some cannot.

On chapter 4, Chops are now at 10, chin and mustache have been stuck at 7  for as long as I can remember

Looks like some insane homeless person with these huge ass chops and a regular sized beard

I am at 7 in chapter 2 on my second playthrough. I suspect there is a limited window to get the beard there before Arthur gets his cold. I think also you cannot go past a certain point until you progress further, like in chapter 2 for a month doing hunting things for satchel, challenges, etc etc and it is still at 7. I have had it to 8 before on the first play through but I agree, it is pretty nappy looking. I still want to try for 10 this time and I will keep doing so. Now that I have the LOTE satchel, I will consume hair tonics twice as much and hopefully see some progress after a couple missions. I still have not even gotten to "Pouring fourth oil" which is a key mission where I know the Dead eye marker ability changes, so I think after chapter 2 would be the best bet for maximum hair growth, and before I get into chapter 4. So, Chapter 3 seems about right. Health wise, story wise.

I can now confirm this is definitely broken. I got tired of waiting and shaved all my hair off to extra clean shaven. Now only my chops are growing back.

when I use tonics I get these weird dye like streaks on Arthur's cheeks which vanish if i go to the shaving table. It's all the time now. I will take a picture and edit this post later.

Sometimes Arthur's hair grows really quickly other times it grows slow as molasses. Sometimes it grows when I sleep sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it grows during cutscenes, when I die, when I reload, and other times it never seems to grow. I really don't believe for a minute the system is working the way it is supposed to.

I was wrong about the glitch, my mustache and chin are growing at the normal rate, but now I understand what's happening on my file, the hair tonic is only affecting my chops, it made it seem like they were the only thing growing because I had taken a hair tonic, causing them to grow faster than the rest. It also explains how come I can get my chops to 10 but nothing else

Hey guys thanks for all the replies. I haven’t figured out the problem yet. Hopefully soon though. I am trying to grow the beard to 7 and then cut back the moustache and let the rest grow out
