Alright, people. I come with some science regarding the alien tattoo and the PC platform. @jargonaut, this post might interest you.

According to @A.C.M.'s experience with it, the tattoo disappeared when he changed outfits via the interaction menu and it was presumed lost. Yesterday, I decided to try and get it myself so that my account could at least be credited as having found it and, hopefully, have it given when it gets fixed.

If you want to read my full experience in detail, so we all know what circumstances I was on, read the spoiler. If not, just continue below for the meat and potatoes of this post.

Spoiler

Eventually, after two days of grind, I did unlock the tattoo. First thing I did was manually walk down the Chilliad and try to do everything different than A.C.M. did just in case something that he did might have triggered that glitch. When I arrived at the parlour, the tattoo wasn't there.

So, the first thing I did was switch sessions and spawned at my nightclub, my character fully clothed again. I took off her jacket and found out that she still had the tattoo. Then, I tried to change outfits via the interaction menu and it indeed disappeared. Feeling like my time had been wasted, I tried to check for the tattoo again in the parlour and it still wasn't there.

However, as soon as I backed out of the parlour menu without applying any other tattoo, "???" was back. I tried to repeat the process of changing outfits numerous times and then visiting the parlour and it returned every time, just as long as I didn't apply any other.

If you are a PC player and get probed by aliens, changed outfit and saw the tattoo disappear, DON'T PANIC AND DON'T APPLY ANY OTHER TATTOO IN ITS PLACE - it's not gone.

To get it back, just visit the tattoo parlour and scroll through the back tattoos and quit out. It'll return. Alternatively, changing outfits at clothing shops' counters will also bring it back and so will changing session. You can even change clothes at your wardrobe and it'll stick. Update: Simply entering and exiting any clothes shop menu without changing outfits will cause the tattoo to reappear as well.

In one sentence: don't change outfits via the interaction menu if you don't want to go through the hassle of visiting a tattoo parlour, clothing shop or changing sessions to get the tattoo back.

Video proof of what I'm saying:

Apologies for only recording the tattoo parlour example, but all that you need is in the description. Unfortunately, I don't have the most ideal recording setup.

Now, are you a PC player and want my advice? Go ahead and get the tattoo if you really want to keep it, you have nothing to lose.

@Fun 2 and @WildBrick142, you guys might find this post interesting.

@jargonaut, that's actually not a bad idea, I think. I'll look into it. ;)

---

I have drafted a bug report that any one reading this and feeling inclined to do so can just copypaste and send over to Rockstar by accessing this link. I have already chosen all the relevant options so you just need to fill in with what's inside the following spoiler:

Spoiler

Is the bug reproducible?

Yes.

Does it stop progression?

Yes.

What are the steps to reproduce the bug?

1. Acquire the "???" tattoo included in the "Arena War" DLC by meeting its requirements (600 bunker resupply missions and retrieve the alien egg, followed by drinking MacBeth at a nightclub between 1 AM and 4 AM while raining, thundering or snowing, and respawn at the top of Mt. Chilliad by chance);

2. After acquiring the tattoo, change outfit via the Interaction Menu to any other that the player has saved.

What is the expected outcome?

The "???" tattoo will disappear and cannot be reapplied via the tattoo parlour because it won't unlock there and show up either. The only way to get it back is to either change outfits at a clothing store, visiting a tattoo parlour and opening its menu but without applying any other tattoos, or switching sessions.

As long as the player doesn't impulsively apply any other back tattoo, they can always get it back using any of the methods described above.

I tried for days/hours to get tattoo during the snow but no luck. Has anyone got it since then on PS4 ?

Only pc users can get the alien tattoo. Console users, for the moment, must wait until next Christmas,or use glitches to freeze weather /time.

Hopefully the next update will fix it so the "???" option properly appears in the tattoo parlor.

Has *anyone* got the tattoo on console using a weather glitch? Because it's not really the session weather, I don't think.

I've been in IO and public lobbies with rain, thunder, fog a bunch of times and nada.

So pick the weather *and* freeze the clock?

I've only done about 30-40 so probability-wise I'm still early.

Yes. As far as I know, one person got the tattoo using glitches on ps4. He freezed the time using the creator mode glitch. So he waited for the morning rain, and got the tattoo.

He froze the clock to somewhere between 1 and 4 am and then been waiting for rain on day#4, day#5, day#10 and day #15

Rain on day#4 is very short but the other 3 are pretty nice. Check my sheet, rain start 4 hours ish after the previous one on day #5,#10,#15

I did it by freezing the clock and the weather, it worked well, needed 210 shots

I didn't need to wait for the rain

@Br0SKi666, can you go into bigger detail about what you did immediately after you got the tattoo? The denser your description, the easier it will be into understanding what went wrong with your case. Are you on PC?

The UFO encounter can always be repeated as well. For the better or the worse, it's not a one-time event.

Dang, R* support really is something else. Sorry to hear about your loss. Here's the hoping you get it back one day. Like @Volganor said, it would help a great deal to know what exactly you did after getting the tattoo/prior to losing it, so we could narrow down these instances.

It's simply astonishing R* puts these special and borderline unhealthy trinkets in game, but doesn't make sure they stick.

Nothing really happend, simply went to NC and was happy about finally getting it and it was still there, even when I changed the outfit with interaction menu. I saw that its missing on my back week ago when I changed the clothing in the shop and I had it since late december 2018 till that day. I was changing sessions, coming to tattoo parlor and no I did not buy another tattoo on the back. Decided to write the ticket on r* support and looks like it was completely ignored and "Closed" after 3 days. I'm playing right now and I can say its still not there, at least its not visible and I hope that's the thing.

Edit: Yes, I'm on PC.

This tells me that this tattoo is glitched in more than one way, not just my and A.C.M.'s example, because this didn't happen in our case. There's also the example of someone who got the alien encounter and didn't even get the tattoo, on console.

Have you applied any tattoo, specifically on the back, since then? My advice would be not to do it, it could be that it's still "there" but the game isn't showing it. There's a chance this could be fixed next update and it could show up again or, at the very least, able to be reapplied on the tattoo parlour. I'd imagine that the game at least recognises that you did unlock it and your account has been credited as such. That was my mindset when I decided to try and get it despite the risk of losing it.

Something else that I can tell you is to not give up on support. Keep opening tickets and trying to have them escalated to upper tiers, requesting as such - especially if the next update doesn't fix this. You had your progress faltered and have the right to be heard. Just remember to be clear about your intentions but don't waste time trying to explain it to the initial bot responses. Just say what happened and request an escalation after the first reply. And, most importantly, don't be rude.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you and I sincerely hope it gets resolved. Don't give up.

No I didn't apply any tattoo on the back after getting it. I'm still scared when I even open the main tattoo menu. I cannot say that its 100% recognized since I can't even see the "???" in tattoo parlor on PC. I just really hope that they'll fix it in next update or I'll get it back with those tricks with clothes shops, changing sessions or even start waiting for a rain in the night and pray for another abduction.

Does anyone have deeper understanding if this macbeth spawn will - if alien egg mission is completed and it's early am and it's raining - always reapply the tattoo like Epsilon building spawn will always dress you with Kifflom t-shirt? Cause if it does, and anyone who has had their ??? tattoo go bye-bye happens to do this, keep us posted.
